@BLAZE9857 Keep in mind that it's at the arranger's descretion. If you where expecting the full 5 or so minute piece, that is not how modern Drum Corps work anymore. I understand the Latin and appreciate classical music, yet the full 5 minutes actually bores me. The G-Men arrangement gets the point across rather well in my opinion.
i think that cutting off the notes like that was a mistake, for the piece is supposed to be dreamy, but when you cut off the notes, then it becomes interrupted.
I'm not trying to be mean, just if it is ever being performed again, then i would release the notes instead of cutting them off.
okay go listen to the original choir version. it is the exact same way. sorry that the acoustics of the outdoors is not the same as a choir hall. put them in the same venue that most choirs perform in and you will not be complaining about the phrases ending abruptly. sorry it was too clean for you
@vvbrandon This had nothing to do with the actual releases... the music itself was bad, because they changed the piece (different sections in different spots).
THAT is why it stunk... and other people seem to agree with me.
@c7snare im sorry but you are mistaken. ALL drum corps open or world or phenominal. I dont care if you come in first or last place, all drum corps are great. They bust their ass all summer long just so someone like you can sit on your ass and tell THEM that they aren't good? Go play some eights...
@c7snare - Ya, top 12 in the world is pretty bad. lol. And what exactly made 2006 so much "better" then all the years sense? Consider that they made 11th in '07 and '08, then 10th in '09 and 12th in '10. From a ranking side it appears you are wrong. Then consider this: '06 score - 86.000. 2007 - 85.75. But then in '08 and '09 they jumped up to 87.2 and 87.75.
So go back to your community college and comment after you've marched.
@vinchenzo54 I agree. i marched scouts this past summer, and for some reason we always warmed up near the glassmen. Hearing them play this live is really enjoyable.
Most of the problems are the fact that they took one of the most beautiful concert pieces, and tried to convert them into fast paced marching band. Those things considered, this is really good.
@zukavatar Yep and the fact that the concert piece requires tapered releases for it to sound right. I think the fact that the note just stopped and wasn't tapered is what probably bothered me the most.
The tempo is only about 10 clicks faster then the Eric Whitacre piece.

Your cut-offs are TOO ABRUPT! This is incredibly rushed! Tone was good, though.

My god. Why did you guys rush this so much? You killed the song and your dynamics were terrible. Where's the creshendos? Your tone is god awful!
BorkZorkBork 11 months ago
What the heck? Way too abrupt, waaaaayyy too rushed! Takes so much away from the beauty of the song. :(

@gshuda22 okay. i can respect that thought, but when i hear "cutting phrases short" i think you mean the players are not finishing their phrases.

Great corp, great concert song, but a dollar menu worthy arrangement.

I do think that this could've improved by decreasing the tempo, and opposed to staccatos, sustaining the phrases..
That's just a personal thing, it feels fuller to me.
But other than those, I think they did an amazing job, this is one of my favorite pieces.

the glassmen havent been a good drum corpse sense like 2006 when the did beethoven... even then it wasnt very orchestral
