  • beautiful performance, but am i the only one tht sees spanky on the kit

  • is it me or does she sound slightly off key in the beginning? She came back though after the chorus, so is all good

  • Amazing!

  • Beautiful! woman beautiful artist!

  • epic performance

  • This is my twin!! I absolutely love Chrisette Michele. <3

Listen to my rendition of her songs by clicking on my name below. Be sure to tell me what you think! :)

  • omg i love this song.. i didnt know she was the singer

  • Simply amazing. Soul music periond.

  • She Sounds Just Like Dinah Washington!!!!!!

  • Yes, I like that voice and style....

  • This was the first time I ever heard her and it was definitely.... who is this??

  • @90tallulah chrisette michele

  • Beautiful buttery vocals!!!!!!!!

  • luv this sonngggg...and my bwoy spanky on the drumz

  • I luv her voice its so beautiful

  • SO GORGEOUS

  • This is unbelievably beautiful. <3

Few people appreciate music like this anymore. :0

  • I love her!

  • I cant wait for her and Jennifer Hudson to do something together like they both said they wanted to do. Too excited! :D 2 best singers in the worllddd!

  • if they do something together thats would be a number one hit

  • She's certainly part of todays Top 5 Best Female R&B Singers:

    1. Jill Scott (exceptional)

    2. Ledisi (Chaka & Ella wrapped up in one)

    3. Chrisette- Her Influential (R&B mixed with Jazz) style has made younger listeners appreciate old Jazz artists

    4. Jennifer Hudson (Powerful)

    5. Melanie Fiona (vocal clarity mixed with soul)

This is an objective list not my personal favorite artists. It may be argued that Erykah, Jazmine, Fantasia, Beyonce, and Corinne Bailey should have all made the list.

  • @bentfamily personally i'd put jazmine for melanie. Jazmine's album didn't do her justice.

  • You forgot Lalah Hathaway those you listed are smooth r&b with a jazz feel to it.

  • "objective list not my personal favorite artists"

    LOL

  • It can't be an objective list since it's based on opinion still.I'm not a fan of Jill's tone and Ledisi is good but certainly not Chaka neither Ella.I agree Chrisette and J.Hudson are special though. I enjoy Erykah and Corinne's vocals. I think not only have they both got lovely tones but their voices are distinctive too, . Both like Chrisette seem to be influenced by Billie Holiday but sound so different from each other.

  • At the same time I wouldn't describe Erykah or Corinne as singer-singers in the vein of Chaka, Karyn Clarke, Yolanda Adams, Whitney in her heyday etc etc. That's not to take anything away from them as they each bring something unique and fantastic (much like one of my favourites, Sade) and I would go to them for something different to what more conventional soulful -although very talented -vocalists such as Chaka, Yolanda, Whitney etc can give me.

  • @bentfamily Definitely Erykah, Jazmine, Fantasia, and Corrine. Hey there can be a Top 10 list. IDK about Beyonce. Maybe Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry

  • @bentfamily veryyyyyy niceeeeeeeeeee say this list again n post this up....very nice list...most ppl that r underated..they call neo soul....man this is the real music...luv it....

  • i would die from the amazingness if this happened

  • yess stringssss

  • Love her voice... she looks like snoops wife Shante on here though.

  • this song is so sweet!

  • Spanky on drums?

  • dats wut i said...

  • love this song !!!

  • This song sounds like it came straight from Louisiana! I love it!

  • Nice, kind of retro-jazzy style..kind of reminds me of Adele

  • a beautiful performance by a beautiful lady, without histronics, without excessive gesticulation that distract, just her lovely voice gliding effortlessly over the notes. Great performance.

  • Exactly....and she is gorgeous.

  • She sings well, eh.

  • Loves her & this song/performance

  • You go girl!!! Beautiful...

  • She and Babyface have created a new 'classic' song. GREAT performance!

  • She has one the back in the days voices I love it...it unique her own styling....

  • My favourite song from her album..its always on repeat

  • mines too :)

one of the best she's ever done in my opinion

  • Thats mean!!

I pray anyone who reads your post is blessed with many days filled with lots of love, great health and fianancial blessing. Weak people believe in those chain letters and emails. But the slime is the one that does the original posting.

  • that voice...that voice! She is so magnificent!

  • :D!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she is a breathe of fresh air a, along with the talents of alicia keys, jazmine sullivan, jennifer hudson!.....WHERE IS 'SADE'???

  • LOL are talking throw back Sade?! how r u gonna name all these young folks then Sade (love her though)? random....but yeah these are the best voices in r&b right now imo. Chrisette is my personal fave currently tho.

  • Sade moved on pal lol.

  • She's coming. LOL. Sade's supposed to come out with an album this year. Lover's Rock was very good. I think she's on the 7 year plan when it comes to releasing albums. Since they're always good, it's worth the wait. :)

  • she sing so beauty and a beauty person

  • her and amy winhouse take me back to former times... it's so pretty to bad amy is in a downward spiral

  • she is a wonderful singer

  • love her voice

  • Chrisette Michele is bringing the best style of music.. soulful ,blues jazz!!

  • She's really quite wonderful. Bravo for REAL music.

  • dammit this women can sing, she's unique she's herself she's proved you don't have to be a slut to make successful music you just gotta have talent wich is like forgotten in todays show buisness

  • If anyone can find it, rent the movie "Stormy Weather". If you want to see talent, and really understand that those who are beat boxing, dancing, hip hop, R & B etc etc, and think they invented the culture. This movie is from 1943, and proves that wrong. Chrisette is a throwback to that time. Lena Horne is in the movie, and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. She is sexy without being slutty, (which seems to be cute these days). Outstanding performer, and fantastic voice.

  • Her vocal shading and phrasing is *precisely* Lady Day,even the slight lisp...it's a shame, because she's a talented vocalist. But, she is still young, so hopefully she will "grow into" her own voice

  • When you hear this sensational songbird sing, you get the feeling that there isn't a genre of music should couldn't sing. Her voice can color jazz, blues, gospel, and even country. She's classy, beautiful, and gifted...A talent that make transcends time and styles because she will raise the bar for future singers that follow her.

  • because chrisette so musically refined, she will always be around.

  • Chrisette Michele was sent to remind the world that you can make high quality music, have class, and be successful. Her music is timeless. It reaches into the past, represents the present, and will be enjoyed in the future.

  • I love her voice and style...U have to LOVE R&B/SOUL/NEO-SOUL...makes me feel good

  • Her voice reminds me of Billie Holiday

  • oh my God I was thinking that same thing. It really does. but it seems to billie's voice is a little more creepy

  • Thats who she says she idolizes when she was training to sing..read her bio..very interesting

  • Is that Spanky on the kit?

  • yeh yeh its spanky.. i saw it on his myspace and if u could look closely at the clip u cud see him

  • Anybody know her number. I'm in love with this woman check her performing with Nas as Well.

  • Ahh man! Spanky, Adam Blackstone and Kurt Chambers

  • Sounds better that the video ....very rare

  • This music gets me so emotional... It makes me think of love from a different angle... from backwards. And it gives me the refreshing feeling that the love ending can still be as beautiful as its beggining. Such an honest music. Smart girl.

  • spanky

  • yo that live band was sick!!!they were absolutely great from the violinists to the guitarist riffs, drums/percussions, bass, the chords, everyone was on point!

  • She's so amazing!!! I <3 her! I loved the parts when she sang with her back-up singer,Corey...and close to the end when she sang brokenhearted and did the little high note! She's great! I can't wait til her new masterpiece drops in October!!

  • ROCK ON CHRISETTE

  • This is a great song we can all identify with

  • pure beauty

  • Beautiful Job Chrisette!

    -Dcfan4life

  • she has a lovely jazz voice that will put u to sleep. go girl.

  • beautiful performance

  • is she american? she hasnt been introduced in the UK i dont think. well i havent heard of her. Love her voice! not too keen on the song though.

  • Yes, she is an American

  • This is my favorite song!

  • She looks just like she sounds, BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • i love this song

    her CD is so good

  • i love this song

ive done one of her songs

come tell me what what you think

    shelleze of snr

  • I love this song..Chrisette Michele is hands down one of the best female vocalist today!! She has one of the old jazz souls...And I love jazz

  • She is Talented, Elegant and definitely fine, Period. Stop putting her in a class and enjoy her class.

  • She's a class act

  • She really is...love her:)

  • I love Chrisette! Anyone in DC can see her with the Roots and Talib Kweli for FREE!

  • she has that classic voice of a Lena Horn yet a Neo-Soul vibe....She ranks up teir with Jill Scott as a pure vocalist with seamless timeless beauty

  • Jill Scott has better range more vocal versatility and more raw vocal power (though this is a overrated aspect of evaluating a singer) than Chrisette at the same age. Still Chrisette mastered some of the subtle nuances of a Holliday/Horne earlier on.

  • dont get me wrong my babies mama (JILL SCOTT) has a phenomenal range...i am just impress with her daring to be different in an error of sound-a-likes look a likes........and overrating a singer by jilly from philly standards not really i mean we compare usually by LaBelle Mills Winbush so i add Jill to that list

  • 100% Talent

  • she is one of those ppl dat are just timeless.. I luv her music.

  • I love her and her music.Ive seen her 3 times myself at the hob in n.o. and if she comes again i will be there.wonderful cd if u dont have it its never to late to go and get it.

  • I love her, and the CD. And she's sweet, and beautiful...

  • man i love that vibrato!

  • seen her at the house of blues in new orleans twice and i can say its one of the best concerts ive been to!

  • spank sounds great on drums.........very nice pocket

  • I love the fact that the sound is bad and she sings straight through it without a blink. Two guitar players but you only hear one. No bass coming through. Yet she kicks it down!

  • huh, no bass???....how can you not hear that bass line...dude is throwing chords and everything...and then he's doing a run @ the end of the song but the camera is on the acoustic guitar...chrisette is crazy on vocals though, i luv her style and how she flows w/ the musik

  • Bass is the 4 stringed instrument playa (hitting notes at the bottom). The Guitar is the one with line at the end and plays chords. The levels of the band are adjusted and they're better at the end. Don't correct me chief cuz playing with her would be a light gig :) but I respect your musical taste just the same.

  • Beautiful song with a beautiful message, from a beautiful woman, with a beautiful soul...enough said.

  • Love this cd but this live performance doesn't really translate.

  • I liked it. I would rather hear her live than on the album. It seems that her voice is higher in the studio. But she is soooo HOT!

  • REAL, TRUE, CLASSY, KOOL, LOVELY, BEAUTIFUL, EXTORDINARY, LADY.

This is one who will not have to compete with others, she has a style all her own.

  • The cd is way different than just this!! U should go listen to it on her websitre. Give it a try.

  • that reminds me of Billy Holliday.

  • This girl is absoloutly incredible. She's like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday recreated into one.Love her music and death. And you who likes licking armpits, you need Jesus, what happen to the days of liking to lick toes :-)

  • That suppose to be love her music TO death , my bad :-)

  • Such a hot body, belly, ass, boobs and armpits i would love to lick them......yeah thats right, i said it...ARMPITS :). Oh yeah her face is sexy too.

  • WoW...you have some serious issues!!

I appreciate women just as much as the next man (hoping you are a man, I could be wrong) but you are a little too much..you need help I know a counselor I would be glad to give you his number.

  • Whats wrong with her armpits?

  • I don't even believe you asked this question...LoL

Armpits serve a purpose, don't know if they should be admired..LoLoL

  • Whats the difference between armpits and feet? Lots of people have feet fetishes and they're gross and smelly.

  • lol..well, u do kind of have a point, w/ the feet. i'm still a lil' stuck on arm pits though, but i can't knock u 4 it. that's what u like.

  • Well im not obsessed with them lets just say i have a fondness. If you want to read from some people who are obsessed go to armpits-fetish(dot)com

  • Theres a girl who was on a bus standing up and her hairy sweaty armpit was right in this strangers face so he decides to lick and smell it reapeatedlely, then they meet up later were he continues.

  • okay...see that's just gross. and i could of done just fine and dandy w/o knowing that bit.

  • unfair u guys get performances like this on your talk shows!! here in the uk we have the jonathan ross show an the best he has to offer is shite like the kaiser chiefs!!

  • That is the reason why America is called the music capital and market of the world. Everything is a music mall in America. You have your rock selection, jazz selcetion, soul selection, R&B selection, blues selection and more.

  • Educate without google

Stephanie Mills, Candi Staton, Barry White, Angela Winbush, India Arie, Natalie Cole, Sade, Heather Headley, Goapele, Leela James, Teddy Pendergrass, Tammi Terrell, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Solomon Burke, Wilson Pickett, Chuck Jackson,Jackie Wilson, Lenny Williams

  • Oh neosul17 you picked some good ones. And you went way back (Lenny Williams) brought in some new school (Heather Headley). Love it!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for Leela James, I heard a cover of her singing No Doubt's "Dont Speak" and Whoa

  • im just glad our generation still has some talent left. I mean, most of our good singers are men unfortuantely and a lot of the talented female artist are too busy trying to be sex symbols and showing off their bodies more than they're talent. so i hope chrisette stays hangs in there and we see and hear more of her.

  • TELL IT!

  • She's a beautiful young woman, not shaking her rump. Not yelling and screaming profanities, with a bottle of Crystal in her hand.

Give her her promps. She has a new renovated style that is needed for us of those who can't stand listening to "stump the rump" or "bang the booger" etc.

So with all that said "you go girl"

  • PREACH!

  • Wow you people on youtube are so fucking ignorant. I swear no matter what video you watch there is always some idiot that makes it about race. Shut the fuck up and watch the video, its a damn music video not a documentary about the KKK.

  • Wonderfully talented. Would be if she were black, white, yellow, orange, and any other color. Just as Christina, Whitney, Faith Hill, Gadys Knight, and Anita Baker are. People like you are why Phyllis Hyman killed herself. And others just go crazy. Talent, true talent is just that and it has no color.

  • Time to educate: Phyllis Hyman committed suicide due to mental illness probably linked to clinical depression. She could've been the most successful singer in the world with the world's best man in her life, but that doesn't solve clinical depression as a result of mental illness. That needs to be treated with medicine - and prayer.

  • wow, read you comment neosul7 and if black people have better voices name 20 all time great black SINGERS not rappers, without going to google. Can't, and there goes my point

  • Time to educate (without Google - and in 60 seconds): Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Lou Rawls, Etta James, David Ruffin (of the Temptations), Peabo Bryson, Jaheim, Anita Baker, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, James Ingram, Al Jarreau, Frankie Beverly, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston (and no, not Bobby Brown), and on and on and on. There are great singers out there of all races.

  • thnk you chakafan2 tell em!

  • thanks chakafan2 for puting elementboi916

    in check

  • true, but the ones u named happen to be black, hehehe... and oh yeah, Brian McKnight, Tank, Tevin Campbell, Otis Redding, Luther Vandross....

  • I'm old school so I don't know Tank. I'm gonna go check him out.

  • yea.. hes good. he has Jamie Foxx's timbre, its crazy i can almost tell them apart, they have a song together called Slowly... try seein if you can tell them apart, its helluva a challenge.

  • Ma gurl is a performer for real. She knows how to appeal to all type of audiences. She knows how to put on a show when she's in a club but when she's with a more traditional audience, she pulls out the sexy/classy Christte Michele. Most women performers can't do that. They're limited.

  • I agree. Please bring the elegant women back. It's all about rump shaking now. What about true talent.

  • What happened to classy women like this in music?

  • They've all Tried to Conform to Main Stream Media

  • For example Chrisette Michele in this performance was laid back in this performance so she can appeal to the white audience because she is unknown. According to demographics majority of the people who watch the David Letterman show are older white audiences.

If she performed at the Apollo her performance would have been more driven. But if hear her sing live you will see that she can blow!

  • True, But she Shoulda Just Been Herself!!!

  • She was herself she defintely would not have been herself if she was wearing hot pants boots and tight ass skirts and speaking in slang.

  • Yeah Then We would really Been Turning Heads.

  • You do realize she was caught lip singing in Europe right.

  • Some of you are so off base. If you watched this, I am sure you watched all the other clips in reference to her. She isn't lipsynching that. She is gifted.

  • fail to disagree since black people have such versatile voices they can have weak voices and strong voices. I don't know if you realize but historically speaking in order for black people to appeal to the white audience they had use the weak voice in order to appeal to the white audience.

  • You're missing my point. I'm saying that you cannot colour code talent and the line of thought I'm trying to discourage is this 'oh he/she sounds black, or he/she sings too white'. 2me it's as bad as trying to define how to 'act' black or white. I'm an African based in the UK and to a much lesser extent- altho' it exists - do we have these racial hang ups. Take people on their own merits. Soul can be universal.

  • I'm sorry but I have to agree with this statement. The supremes are a good example of this. It was felt that Diana Ross' soprano voice would easily allow the group to fall into "mainstream".

  • I find myself being guilty of making these colour-based assumptions with music and I fight the urge. And it's not a case of who sings what better it comes down to subjectivity and personal choice..

  • First of all I wanna say that I'm not racist because racism is ignorance, fear and insecurity. For Elementboi916 to say such ignorant and very racist comment it shows that he clearly doesn't know much about the history of music. I don't know who gave you the idea that white people can sing better than blacks people that comment is totally false. You need to do more research buddy. You need to go all the way back. Whites are much better singers than blacks what a joke.

  • Comming from a music major i find your comment ignorant and i dismiss it.Black indivduals have played a major role in music and inventions. We brough about Jazz, gospel and even rock and roll ray charles and other great artist like James brown etc. Before you open you mouth and make such ignorant statements make sure you have your facts right first. Im mixed and people are people the same as music it has no color just passion. I not mad at you i just feel sorry for your thinking.

  • I feel u Chrisette

  • Chrisette Michele is the damn bomb!!!

  • you wrong for this comment.

  • yea im sure it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the institutionalized racism that exist in just about every aspect of American society...right?...=/... what a stupid comment

  • If white people have such pure voices than why do you guys listen to black music. White people have good voices but it lacks the real and colorness that black people have.

Blacks have one of the most versatile voices on the planet they can sing anything. Rock, country, gospel you name it they can sing.

  • Lets not get silly here into mking the sweeping racist generalisations of this Elementboi character.A person's racial or ethnic background is not prerequisite to their ability to sing with 'soul'.I hate that some singers eg Jamelia, Rhianna with weak voices are deluded into thinking they can sing because of the melannin factor. Sadly too often 'white' singers always have to prove themselves.I hate this polarisation of music.

  • I fail to disagree since black people have such versatile voices they can have weak voices and strong voices. I don't know if you realize but historically speaking in order for black people to appeal to the white audience they had use the weak voice in order to appeal to the white audience.

  • Plus those singers I mentioned are just weak vocalists full stop. If anything the only reason they get any kudos is because the mainstream audience seems to equate deep melannin tone with automatically good vocals. It's inverted racism and I hate it. Like assuming all black people are good at sport - I certainly defy that stereotype! A blk person doesn't have to scream unrestrained to be soulful. Look at Whitney...

  • Are you serious about that iggorant comment you just made its 2007 get out of the 60's.

  • Who ever you are you I hope you get locked away in psyc ward so that no one has to even look at your silly ass again!!!
