I agree. the honorary presentations should be televised! I love watching clips of old movies and seeing actors who are still living but have made a tremendous contribution to film and the directors etc!
@1966buttons Yes! Three of the four honorees were present and received a standing ovation (Jean-Luc Godard did not make the trip), but the weird thing was: they were all together, not individualized, no film clips of their work was shown (for shame!), and they were not allowed to say even a simple "Thank you!" Horrible!
@billysscreeningroom2 Thanks Rick! I haven't even seen the ceremony itself because I couldn't get it on my television. But its not right to not show the viewing public important people who changed cinema and made a huge impact. I think that the Oscars people are missing an opportunity...there are so many of us who still want to watch old well-made movies and to be reminded of these spectacular films and film-makers. Young people need to be reminded of the history as well surely!!!

I absolutely agree with you but i might add a small thing here, this guys are not only Filmmakers or Directors but they are absolute Legends in their Professions, i don't think that a piece of statute can determine their talent or body of work. No Oscar or any other awards can do that, they have made an impact over people who loves Cinema, having said that i would be the most exited one to see them in the main Ceremony.
This is deeply unfair!! We, movie fans, want to see these great characters in the Oscar Awards Ceremony!! The film industry in the United States is a major source of wealth and these people should be honored as they deserve!!!
I hope that this absurd choice in the coming years may change!!
I agree 100%. It's high time the Academy accorded these highly important figures in cinema (and in cinema preservation) proper respect by honouring them LIVE as part of the main broadcast. Just cut out a couple of the atrocious production numbers and they can have all the advertising they like.
Thank you for your BEAUTIFUL Tribute to these 4 Outstanding Film Luminaries, Rick. And even bigger thanks for letting us know how to make a difference... in helping to restore the Honorary Oscar Awards back into the Telecast where they belong!!
The first time I followed the Academy Awards was in 1992. I remember with emotion the next year, with the honorary Oscar to director Federico Fellini. Sorry again that this year (after last year) is given the award during a private ceremony without live TV!! Wow Jean Luc Godard, Eli Wallach, Francis Ford Coppola and Kevin Brownlow. I wish the organizers to change their minds about how the awards ceremony!!
@ThorC1138 Yes! I almost included it here. Went instead with 4 that I thought EVERYBODY would know --- but, yes, "Baby Doll" could easily have found Eli Wallach nominated for Supporting Actor.
Look at you up on your Cinematic Soapbox !!!! I love it and agree ! The Oscar's broadcast gets more fatuous and frivolous each year. They could make room for this, easily, by canning the overwrought broadway style musical numbers and 50% of the gratuitous "humor" that's never funny anyway.
@NuovoPiero Agreed. Cut 10 minutes of bad humor and they'd do themselves the favor of looking like a legit organization rather than limping along trying to sell commercials. 10 nominated Best Pictures? I can't think of 2 so far this year that'd legitimately fill that bill. And to deny these cinema luminaries to speak on the show! Just to see Jean-Luc Godard -- (one wishes he'd use George C. Scott's line about it all "being a bloody bore") -- would be worth the price of admission!
I agree...I also believe that the academy is very polittical. If a movie is the biggest grossing film of the year...no matter what kind of film it is, it should win for best picture of have a special award created for it, to honor it. That's just my opinion.
@biggerbaddaddy They NOMINATE high art (on occasion) - they give awards to boxoffice clout of people they feel they will be able to make money with in the future.
Excellent tribute, I am sad to hear that these men will not be honoured at the award show. On another note my wife and I watched Ghost Writer last night and I was thrilled to see Elli Wallach was in it. I bored my wife with his work and just had to stay up late and re-watch the first 30 minutes of of The Good the Bad and The Ugly.
I will write a letter to the Academy requesting these people be honoured on the show.
@donovan1971 Thank you SO MUCH!! Wallach has made 50 films - everyone of them good, has co- starred with the best of Hollywood, and isn't even allowed to speak on the telecast?!!! Huh? Something is wrong with that.
@MADWORLD1427 I owe you a great debt of gratitude. As far as how quickly I made this, ... I already had most of the clips because I've made tribute films to almost all these movies. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Great video...all four so deserve this Oscar -- (esp.Jean-Luc Godard)...for their fans not to see their achievements acknowledged, feels like a slap in the face.
Glad to see you give them the attention they deserve here, Rick.
@PlayIt4MeAgainSam Godard gets an Oscar an nobody has the thought to show film clips from such an illustrious career ...? It's more than poor taste, it's sinful and indicative of a culture in decline. Thank you for adding you comments to this posting.
I'm very happy for Eli Wallach who is one of my favourites. He realy deserved it after such a long career with so many memorable roles. I'd love to see him on the Oscars' telecast.
@DrGull1888 I agree. I'd love to ALL OF THEM on the Oscar telecast. Jean-Luc Godard has spent fifty years making movies (his latest comes out in a few months) and he finally gets an Oscar (he's never even been nominated before) and they don't even show film clips from such an illustrious career???? And Wallach is 94, has "Wall Street" coming up, still a vital presence, and has starred opposite EVERYBODY and, again, no film clips?! Doesn't make sense.
