@handycappo i've changed many harmonies throughout as part of the transcription and arrangement process editing down the various Horowitz versions. Whether it is "right or wrong" is purely a matter of taste.
@DANGJOS yep ur right it is a c sharp minor. the 1 i play octaves the minor note... thats why this sounds so wrong cause the change in chord is part of the song... and its 1 note, the pianist here must be REALY lazy

Yes its. fast but how boring would life be if everyone played every piece the exact same way. Plus he performed the Rach 3 when he was 14. So he can do what ever he wants! GOOD JOB! Fast or not..you play a hell of a lot better then i do!
stop trying to do all the extras and get the basics. keep the tempo exactly the same throughout the song, including the beginning, when it seems there is no tempo.
You play very well my dear but I like little be different version, If we want to play take fast tempo from 04.08 or from 03.40 make accel till =232 but beginning no any moving in tempo. I like it like Romance There people can play faster than you but try to play interesting not only technique. In General you very good. I suggest you listen my playing on Piano.
maksim interprets music like a beauty pageant contestant who tries to make everything sound pretty, even the dramatic parts. He doesn't have the strength, nor the skill to play the piece.
I think this is a very good performance. I rate it right below Lang Lang's. You can tell he's North American; he has that kind of demeanor about him, not European.
cookleon This is the original Liszt ending. Sean is playing a harder version than Lang who plays the simplified Horowitz ending. This performance is almost as great as Lang's media hype.
Both versions are difficult. Sorry for making the comparison, but If I hear "List #2" I don't really care which arrangement it is, I just hold on to my seat. LOL
North amerca is a multi cultural country, he can be of any ethnicity! u can't just assume something unless you really have the guys identification card and his parents to really be ably to tell that.
North America is not a country. Bennett is specifically an American. People born in the US have American mannerisms, not European. If you really want to understand what I mean, compare some videos of Evgeny Kissin. Ethnicity is a universal cultural phenomena, and can't be canceled out because of being located in a "magic country".
His playing reminds me of lang lang, but instead of crazy circus bouncing man, he's more so the crazy scientist genius who's art is done in a terrific, maniacal kind of way.
Oh my god! you're awsome. I just started playing piano and I think I can understand slightly how insanely hard that must be to play. and 8 minutes of it O__O wow
That comment is not from Richard Kastle. That is a comedian troll pretending to be Kastle. His YouTube page is a parody of Kastle. Sean Bennett is an excellent musician and isn't afraid to play the ending as Liszt wrote it with real martellato (7:59). Hamelin simplifies a bit by removing the hammer like approach. Hamelins hands barely leave the keys (11:40). Sean's version is far more difficult.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Great Martellato! The ending is hammered as Liszt required. This would look great on TV in a battle of virtuosos who play like Liszt. I can only think of 2. Do you know any others? Hamelin's plays fast, but without martellato. His hands barely leave the keyboard making the piece climax at MF. Great job by the amazing Sean Bennett!
I don't like the pianist which "dance" with their hands.... And I am fade up with the arrangements of this piece... i prefer to heard the original one.
in terms of technique and precision this is a great performance but there is a great lack of emotion in my opinion. Its almost flawless but a bit too mechanical.
@phillaneseventhirty I also think the Bugs Bunny and the Tazmanian devil might also be in there altering the altering the length of some the 8th notes and causing latency through some major passages...lmfao^_^

Are Bennett & Lang any famous, make lots of money? Why? Because they play this piece quickly? I won a UK National Televised competition playing the Hungarian Rhapsody better than both B & L (I actually made music instead of constantly rushing & larking about. Played much more quickly & precisely in the really showy bits) when I was 14! I want to pack my current job, play piano all day & get paid for it, help me, because I'm still undiscovered, depressed & haven't played for over 8 years.
If you're that lacking in the ability to give self-criticism then please carry on not playing.
If you really wanted to play then you wouldn't have found plenty of time to play over those 8 years. Playing the piano isn't about money and anyone who REALLY wants to play makes time to do so.
hmmmmm... look, first off, I apologies for my comment above, but NOT to you. To Sean and Lang. I just wanted to get the great 'Masters'/Seans' & Langs' attention, and I did.
I can't understand your first comment about self-criticism, as I've not posted enough to comment about my own playing which I may add is in need of practice and improving some technical spots which I know to be lacking.
Regarding your 2nd comment, the WORLD revolves around MONEY, and the person who said 'The world revolves around love, was POOR'. I don't know if you are just wealthy, poor or just don't have clue about the real world.
I'm proficient at the Piano if and when I want to be, end of.
As explained to Sean, I went through some horrific health problems through my mid to late teens, 'Cancer' and depression compiled with my Piano coach being in a motorbike accident which has left her paralyzed. Anyway, enough, I don't need to explain myself to you, your playing doesn't warrant it.
If you're the sensation you claim you are and won this competition you're talking about then why haven't you entered any others in an attempt to become "discovered"?

Yes, I was referring to you. I did read your previous comments but if you're able to pull something amazing off in two weeks (like you stated here) then why don't you do so where it really matters because showing me isn't going to get you anywhere. Fresh out of donations...sorry bout your luck.
well, it's all I've been having lately, bad luck (I've also been having some other shite going on as well lately), but as they say, things has to get better as they cannot get any worse.
I like Bennet more than Lang Lang...in my opinion Lang Lang just bangs around WAY too much. He also seems to destroy the emotion of this piece. While Mr. Bennet here has his share of banging...he exudes much more emotion.
Forget Lang Lang at Dallas. Lang Lang played this on his CD Memory I think perfect and he didn't rush it at all. I give this kid a lot of credit for even being able to play this piece. (I'm a big fan of Lang Lang and his Dallas performance I think was a off day for him)
Agreed, and why doesn't anyone but me and this guy point this out. Buy the cd "The magic of lang lang", on track 1 is the Horowits Hungarian Rhapsody, absolutely flawless, in both note perfection and interpretation.
overall, I still prefer Lang Lang's, but I must say, I do prefer Bennett's at 2:39-2:43 and his trill length, Lang Lang rushed it in the Dallas performance, which I didn't like
I think you hit upon Lang Lang's greatest weakness. LL rushes details in a lot of live performances. He's great at fast and slow tempos and rubato, but blows away the details sometimes as if he's in a hurry to hear the applause.
lang lang and bennett are both pretty unbelievable and inhuman in this piece, both take similar tempi, both have rock solid technique. i lean towards bennett though on this one because his use of timing makes the contrasts pop more in both the initial section and towards the end.
He plays so quickly it almost looks as if he had more than one hand! The speed at which he moves! The camera can only catch a glimpse [hence the 'skipping' illusion]... You know, it just came to me, if we put ants in a chocolate box lid, you could kill them all with record time!

He plays so quickly it almost looks as if he had more than one hand! The speed at which he moves! The camera can only catch a glimpse [hence the 'skipping' illusion]... You know, it just came to me, if we put ants in a chocolate box lid, you could kill them all with record time!
