I think Zero Suit Samus should be among the top tier characters. She has so many advantages that people over look. She has amazing range, mobility, recovery (shes much harder to gimp than you think) projectile, AMAZING air game, powerful ground game, longest grab (but its too laggy:P..) Good matchups (now that MK is banned) and very very useful moves and great combos. I understand that her grab is horrid along with her weight class and options on and out of shield. But every character has issues
Tiers truly don't exist, there is no such thing as a "bad character" or a "good character. For example, a pro Ganondorf can defeat an amateur Meta Knight any day.
If you can't play properly with the character, don't blame them, it just means you suck.

I don't have anything against this video or anyone who believes in "tierism", but for the record, I think that it doesn't make much sense. Really, I have easily won against level nine computers with Link. In my opinion, it all depends on how well you know your character of choice. I'd be horrible with Meta Knight, because I have no idea what his moveset is like, but I do extremely well with Link because I know how and where to use his attacks to help him stand up to the "best" characters.

Tiers are the ranking of characters for their potential of winning under tournament conditions based on the metagame. The metagame is the strategy employed by top (Smash) players used to win against others using specific characters. The reason why you do so well with Link is because you understand the strategies Link has to offer. Those strategies can easily be countered by a skilled MK player, however.
That's part of it, but it's largely because of his ability to get the grab in the first place. All he has to do is stand still, hold L, and press A just after the opponent attacks. This works on like 95% of the moves in the game. Plus he has good range, a few quick attacks, and has the best vertical endurance and something like the 4th best horizontal endurance.
Also, the tier has been updated since this video was posted.

@MrCoacacola I've tried using meta knight and hated it. I prefer using Ike (about 50-50 wins) yoshi (about 80-20 wins) Marth (about 40-60 wins) and G&W (about 70-30 wins). Ike can counter meta knight with down b, that's what it's for. Same with Marth. Yoshi's jump works fine and i can combo with him pretty easily if things go right. G&W i just use because his moves make me laugh and I can still end up beating people. My other comment was just to prove how overrated MK is, not to dis people
Pointless. People who fight based on tiers have no sense of originality. Now, while I may be wrong, thats how I see it. I can easily take out someone who uses Meta Knight with, say, Link or Ganondorf. I do use Meta Knight as my best character, but I rarely use him because he isnt fun anymore. Link is probably my favorite character. When it comes to Smash Bros, my motto is "It doesnt matter what character you use, its how you use em."

The current consensus among competitive players is that Metaknight has no disadvantageous matchups, and only 3 "roughly even" ones. Those are Falco, Diddy Kong, and Pikachu. The fighters that can "manage" him either have a projectile capable of interrupting his glide/special moves, a solid defensive game (practically no one stands a chance being aggressive) and can get back to the ground as soon as possible when knocked into the air.
His air to air game is excellent, and in fact any fighter that primarily relies on aerial combat gets decimated (Toon Link, Peach, even Marth). His ground game isn't nearly as great, but it's by no means bad or even average. Many newer players think that Mach Tornado is "cheap" or "what makes him broken", but it in reality is one of his lesser used moves vs the majority of the cast and is rarely used offensively.
But what makes him truly "broken" is his off-stage game. There are a multitude of reasons that I cannot fully explain here. No one in the history of Smash has been capable of recovering as well Metaknight. Not only that, all but a handful of characters dare even try to edgeguard him due to serious risk in doing so. For similar reasons this also makes him the best "gimper" in the game, allotting him many early KOs despite his relatively low strength.
Only two of Metaknight's attacks can be clanked, or canceled out. This is nothing but beneficial to him given his very fast attack speed and good range, but low damage. One of his attacks is so ridiculously fast that it enables him to mitigate large amounts of knockback despite his weight class. Furthermore, while his attacks are weak power in terms of damage, a few of them are fairly powerful in knockback, especially considering their high speed and far reach.

Before I've seen this video (which forgets the A-G aspect of the Tier lists, which show how skilled they are), I chose to play as Ganondorf purely to get him up in the tier list (and therefore remove the 'G' tier). I'll show everyone how I play as him once I think I'm skilled enough... WI-FI will never expect getting beaten by an old man (who is Ganondorf, and them getting beaten by an old man might or might not happen).
What you say is utter nonsense. Low tiers do not take "more skill to win with" than higher tiers. For some, it's true, but for others it is the complete opposite.
At the height of their meta-game, high tiers have superior match ups (good match ups against other high tiers tends to carry more weight) although when it comes down to it only ONE matchup matters and that's the character you're fighting against. Some low tiers are very straight forward but have little to no development.
Sooo.... Ima say this once people. Tiers take the fun out of the game. When you say "oh such and such could pwn such and such at metagame level" it basically means they can spam better. Metagame level = spamming/chaingrabbing. High tier = characters that can spam. Low tier = screwed in metagaming b/c they can't spam as well. Personally I'd like to see people at metagaming level fight, without, spamming. And ffs, who says gimp?
how can you have tiers in a game like this where everyones best with different characters. i am really good with zelda, i can KO a lot of people as her. tiers shouldnt be in brawl, they shoudl stay in pokemon where they make SENSE.
It isnt possible to make any tier list of any SSB, cuz they all have weaknesses and strengths. example, samus was the badest character in SSB64, but its hard to combo samus, as she is a slow heavy weight.

For example, the reason Fox was top character in SSBM was because he had the most potential out of any character in the game, but he was the hardest character to master effectively. Low tiers are low because there isn't as much depth to them as high tiers.

To be fair, Meta Knight's Tornado is ridiculous against some characters, but against others who jump-down air it (or simply preempt it, LINK) and laugh, Meta Knight's stuck with the other end of his move imbalance problems coupled with his lack of projectiles.

People underrate a lot of characters. It's very annoying. Some matchups Meta Knight doesn't do that well, and now he's an optional ban? pfft.
I have to say that tiers in Brawl are fairly meaningless. The characters are very close to being perfectly balanced, especially compared to the other two games in the series. I do agree that Ganondorf must be strengthened in SSB4, perhaps by having higher priority or by using his sword. Meta Knight should be weakened, because spamming destroys the fun of the game. But after playing Brawl so much, I'm good with almost everyone.
I don't think high tier characters are the best and low tier characters are the worst. It seems to me that higher tier characters are just easier to master than lower tier characters. For example, you can easily master Metaknight (top tier) compared to Ganondorf (bottom tier) . If you put the time and effort into mastering lower tier characters, then they can be way better than higher tier characters.
I will never understand the point of teir lists. They are so unhelpful that it's hilarious. Quick example. Pichu is at the bottom of the barrel in the melee tier. So why is it that when I play Pichu, I can win easily without spamming or being cheap? Because a high place on the list does not guarentee a victory.

Jesus Christ this list is so terribly inaccurate its unfathomable, link, zelda, and ike are over powered as crap and should be WAAAY lower ranked, and falco is so freaking fast, and hard to control, it takes a lot more practice to become good with him than it does with link, zelda or ike where all u have to do is hit your opponent one time with a normal attack and 1000% damage is instantly dealt to them (sorry for complaining so much but this list just sucks balls)

@MrCoacacola I've tried using meta knight and hated it. I prefer using Ike (about 50-50 wins) yoshi (about 80-20 wins) Marth (about 40-60 wins) and G&W (about 70-30 wins). Ike can counter meta knight with down b, that's what it's for. Same with Marth. Yoshi's jump works fine and i can combo with him pretty easily if things go right. G&W i just use because his moves make me laugh and I can still end up beating people. My other comment was just to prove how overrated MK is, not to dis people

My opinion of tiers:
Pointless. People who fight based on tiers have no sense of originality. Now, while I may be wrong, thats how I see it. I can easily take out someone who uses Meta Knight with, say, Link or Ganondorf. I do use Meta Knight as my best character, but I rarely use him because he isnt fun anymore. Link is probably my favorite character. When it comes to Smash Bros, my motto is "It doesnt matter what character you use, its how you use em."
So screw your tiers. Nice music though.

The current consensus among competitive players is that Metaknight has no disadvantageous matchups, and only 3 "roughly even" ones. Those are Falco, Diddy Kong, and Pikachu. The fighters that can "manage" him either have a projectile capable of interrupting his glide/special moves, a solid defensive game (practically no one stands a chance being aggressive) and can get back to the ground as soon as possible when knocked into the air.

His air to air game is excellent, and in fact any fighter that primarily relies on aerial combat gets decimated (Toon Link, Peach, even Marth). His ground game isn't nearly as great, but it's by no means bad or even average. Many newer players think that Mach Tornado is "cheap" or "what makes him broken", but it in reality is one of his lesser used moves vs the majority of the cast and is rarely used offensively.

But what makes him truly "broken" is his off-stage game. There are a multitude of reasons that I cannot fully explain here. No one in the history of Smash has been capable of recovering as well Metaknight. Not only that, all but a handful of characters dare even try to edgeguard him due to serious risk in doing so. For similar reasons this also makes him the best "gimper" in the game, allotting him many early KOs despite his relatively low strength.

I'll try to be concise.
Only two of Metaknight's attacks can be clanked, or canceled out. This is nothing but beneficial to him given his very fast attack speed and good range, but low damage. One of his attacks is so ridiculously fast that it enables him to mitigate large amounts of knockback despite his weight class. Furthermore, while his attacks are weak power in terms of damage, a few of them are fairly powerful in knockback, especially considering their high speed and far reach.

Before I've seen this video (which forgets the A-G aspect of the Tier lists, which show how skilled they are), I chose to play as Ganondorf purely to get him up in the tier list (and therefore remove the 'G' tier). I'll show everyone how I play as him once I think I'm skilled enough... WI-FI will never expect getting beaten by an old man (who is Ganondorf, and them getting beaten by an old man might or might not happen).

What you say is utter nonsense. Low tiers do not take "more skill to win with" than higher tiers. For some, it's true, but for others it is the complete opposite.
At the height of their meta-game, high tiers have superior match ups (good match ups against other high tiers tends to carry more weight) although when it comes down to it only ONE matchup matters and that's the character you're fighting against. Some low tiers are very straight forward but have little to no development.

Sooo.... Ima say this once people. Tiers take the fun out of the game. When you say "oh such and such could pwn such and such at metagame level" it basically means they can spam better. Metagame level = spamming/chaingrabbing. High tier = characters that can spam. Low tier = screwed in metagaming b/c they can't spam as well. Personally I'd like to see people at metagaming level fight, without, spamming. And ffs, who says gimp?

@dutchy253Q No, not really. Throughout most fighting games, high tiers are high because they are harder to master and low tiers are low because they are easier to master, not the other way around. For example, the reason Fox was top character in SSBM was because he had the most potential out of any character in the game, but he was the hardest character to master effectively. Low tiers are low because there isn't as much depth to them as high tiers.

Characters like Zelda and Ganondorf are relatively shallow and have little to offer beyond shallow mastery, thus why they are low tier. Yes, Zelda's smashs are damaging and have high priority, but overall she is a bad character. Face it.

I just have no idea why the hell these characters are all out of place. I mean, did the tier people even play the game?! It's stupid! To be fair, Meta Knight's Tornado is ridiculous against some characters, but against others who jump-down air it (or simply preempt it, LINK) and laugh, Meta Knight's stuck with the other end of his move imbalance problems coupled with his lack of projectiles.

Zelda is amazing in a lot of matchups (Meta Knight for example... The point of Zelda is to keep the enemy in the air, so damaging Meta Knight is very easy, and she does well in that matchup. People underrate a lot of characters. It's very annoying. Some matchups Meta Knight doesn't do that well, and now he's an optional ban? pfft.

I have to say that tiers in Brawl are fairly meaningless. The characters are very close to being perfectly balanced, especially compared to the other two games in the series. I do agree that Ganondorf must be strengthened in SSB4, perhaps by having higher priority or by using his sword. Meta Knight should be weakened, because spamming destroys the fun of the game. But after playing Brawl so much, I'm good with almost everyone.

I don't think high tier characters are the best and low tier characters are the worst. It seems to me that higher tier characters are just easier to master than lower tier characters. For example, you can easily master Metaknight (top tier) compared to Ganondorf (bottom tier) . If you put the time and effort into mastering lower tier characters, then they can be way better than higher tier characters.

I will never understand the point of teir lists. They are so unhelpful that it's hilarious. Quick example. Pichu is at the bottom of the barrel in the melee tier. So why is it that when I play Pichu, I can win easily without spamming or being cheap? Because a high place on the list does not guarentee a victory.

heres some stats for characters lucario: a very all around level character his attacks are very decent normal speed and good specails a very easy to control character very easy link: like lucario a very all around of course not the fastest his attacks are stronger than normal ganondorf: very slow exelent timing required but his attacks are over powering kirby: a very fast character not to fast but faster his attacks are fast in his normal but his specail are over powering and fast, cheap huh

@BH400q this is not entirely true. not all high tiers are easy to use. some of them. are easyer at a newbie lvl . yes. but chars like ice clambers king DDD and zero suit are very require a nice amount of skill and practice to be good at high metagame. of a good link player fights with a noob MK he can win. OFC. but if the meta knight is good link will be wtfpwned .. i can 3 stock any link with wolf. with meta knight alot of chars can die with only 40% . and this is tested

Jesus Christ this list is so terribly inaccurate its unfathomable, link, zelda, and ike are over powered as crap and should be WAAAY lower ranked, and falco is so freaking fast, and hard to control, it takes a lot more practice to become good with him than it does with link, zelda or ike where all u have to do is hit your opponent one time with a normal attack and 1000% damage is instantly dealt to them (sorry for complaining so much but this list just sucks balls)
