I'd say it's the responsibility of the bus driver to ascertain clearance. In an event where a driver is unsure, I would hope the natural reaction would NOT be to just barrel on ahead and find out.

These workers set up an inherently dangerous situation by not closing the lanes below their work area. Now way, no how should they have been working that close to traffic with a man lift. I blame the driver of the bus! I drive a boom truck and I always have to be aware of what's overhead.

No, he didn't jumped on the bridge. When the bus hit the basket, he was slammed on the ground, left of the crane truck.
The guy you see on the bridge sat behind something, so you didn't saw him before the crash.
Indeed very stupid to work above a busy lane of traffic.

You see the guy tumble to the ground - he didn't magically end up on the "bridge" after being hit by the bus. That was a different worker, indeed. We can talk about stupidity on the part of the work crew and bus driver, but Jesus Christ, do you see any signs or barricades put out behind the trucks? Do you see anybody slowing down? Fix the fucking system.

I'd say it's the responsibility of the bus driver to ascertain clearance. In an event where a driver is unsure, I would hope the natural reaction would NOT be to just barrel on ahead and find out.

ANY motorist has a responsibility of avoiding an obstacle if possible. But thats missing the point. These workers set up an inherently dangerous situation by not closing the lanes below their work area. Now way, no how should they have been working that close to traffic with a man lift. What they did was absolutely inexcusable and everyone on that job should be ashamed for not recognizing a serious safety hazard.

This, exactly. When carrying out this kind of work, you have to consider that anything could happen. Best to take all safety precautions, not just hope for the best.

Agreed. Where was the traffic control? No speed limiting procedures in place at all. It's a sorry thing to see ppl working in obviously unsafe conditions and il bet the poor conditions were due to a tightarse boss. Yes, the workers shouldve said im not doin that, but the boss should still be liable.

Well, here in the U.S.A. two of the three lanes would have been closed by a multitude of highway vehicles, the area coned off, a police car would have been present. Get the point? Always SAFETY FIRST!!!

this guy did not die, he broke his hip bone only, the bus kept going, never stopped, police arrested the bus driver four hours later and the fater of the guy that was hurt beat the shit out of the driver at the police station, the police let everyone go

I think on e guy was already on the sign. and one in the cherry picker. it's really unfortunate for the poor dead guy, but surely common sense tells you not to put a mobile ploatform up in the middle of the road when there's still traffic going by. sad, but stupid.

tough the crane operator was not careful enough, it was the driver's fault. he should have known his vehicle's height, any body would have slow down when approaching the crane.
