@TheFreZzZer um...i wouldn't really suggest "All In" but The Cincinatti Kid is brilliant...The Stu Ungar story is okay...California Split is great movie by Robert Altman. Um...in terms of the whole father/son dynamic...I can't think of anything. But the other movies are good in terms of gambling movies.

"Lucky You" and "Deal" both suck ass as far as being poker movies is concerned. They both were just a little too over the top and I think because neither movie could pinpoint the genre they were shooting for, they both just flopped all around. Seems that no one will be able to ever top "Rounders" as the best poker movie ever made.

It also didn't help that it was on the shelf for awhile -- I think it's set in 2005, but it didn't come out until 2007 -- and by the time it came out, the height of the poker craze had passed. I liked the movie, and I've watched it many times. I liked that it was more a character drama than anything else. I just don't think the studio knew how to market it. It was neither really a poker movie nor a romantic comedy. It was more a movie about father and son.

the only scene that was realistic and shows how a gamblers life really is, is when they're playing PLO and LC asks the old man "how deep are you?" and the old man replies "I've got about $20,000"

LC sais "I put you all in"

"Im gonna call LC, cause my 3 ladies are just ding to meet you"

"well they'll be in good company" and he show a set of kings.

The expretion on the old man's face when he asks him to loan him $20,000 cause he just lost every cent to his name.

Why the fuck is this comment rated down? It's true - anyone who knows anything about poker and plays it themself can see this movie is just a way to make easy money in a market niche that hasn't really been filled. The dialogue is inane and clearly contrived and the poker itself is unrealistic.

Also, as for the bit in the trailer when the girl is saying one more heart and he has a flush - why the fuck would they be so happy with a draw? Only a 4.2 to 1 chance of hitting it on the turn/river.

First of all, the film is quite realistic! In fact, the hands that were played in this movie were directed by a multiple world champion of poker I doubt that you have more experience.. And all of the players you see in this movie are real pokerplayers that are famous in the pokercommunity. If you watch Casino Royale for exemple, that is unrealistic.

But where I do agree is that the movie is to make money, but that does not mean it's a bad movie.

About the flush you are right, it's a crappy one.

(Spoiler Alert) This was actually a solid movie for a poker movie. Unfortunatley the collusion at the final table really took away from the movie as a whole. It was kind of amusing how they made the internet guy look like a total donk despite him winning. Clearly was a poke at moneymaker since the movie was set right around the beginning of the poker boom.
