@Jxudo Yes, the cords are definitely an inconvenience. As far as the build quality goes, that shouldn't really be a concern. They designed them with the materials to make them extraordinarily light weight, so as not to bother your wrists and arms.
If you break it...I think you're using it wrong...
@mooney003 I actually bought this directly from Razer during pre-orders. It cost me a total of $130.00 and included the Hydra and a copy of Portal 2 with activation of a 'Hydra-Only' segment of the game.
Right now you can get it for $100.00 from Razer, however this does NOT come with the copy of Portal 2 which implements the Hydra software to it's best.
@starwarsvideos not really. there is still really bad texture loading. you'll be running around then a crate or a wall will pop up out of no where :| its not as bad as it used to be. but still very annoying.
"Sixense" made a unique praiseworthy invention, but "Razer" made a troublesome cheaply-built end product.
LT trigger is stuck!
I bought my Razer Hydra the day before yesterday and I don't recommend it for its faultiness. Too many people are complaining about many issues ranging from cursor "Jitter" to sticking triggers.
Jitter can be due to other electronic devices - producing electromagnetic field - placed too close to the base station or keeping the controllers far away from the base.
@mfhraptor Jitter is definitely an issue that Sixense is working to minimize as much as possible. I get a small amount of jitter, but not quite what others receive. There are ways to bump up the amount of "averaging out" the driver does to make it smoother; I had to do that as well.
@WTFsubzero I find the controllers to be very comfortable and fit my hand well. Of course, if you have hands that are particularly small, or particularly large, you may have a different experience.
@TheColeopter I've never used the controller in any type of flight simulator, but I would think it would be quite awkward. These are designed more for third and first person shooters than anything. You could get them to work in a flight simulator, but I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be very fun, haha.
is there a way so i can play BF3 with the hydra? just asking cuz i bought the game some day ago and i did not seem to find any solution for it :/ and i dont play any valve games exept for tf2 wich is the only game i have that i can play with it. and it just gets repedative
@ZyphsMw2 Yes, the latest Beta driver downloadable from the Sixense forums (check out my Sixense update video for the link) includes a pre-made configuration for Battlefield 3, all ready to go. It is NOT direct integration, but it works! So...game on, friend! :)
@ZyphsMw2 No, there's really no way to adjust it so you can only use 1 controller. The profiles for games are designed for use of both controllers. The only way you could do that is if you learned how to make your own profiles, which you can figure out by going to Sixense's forums. But be forewarned, it's not simple. It involves learning how to write profiles in a language that the driver understands. Sixense has said they plan to release a creator that makes it easier and more intuitive.
You know what I want to know? How does this fare with the Kinect and PSMove Controllers? Hell, it it possible to use PPjoy with this? You know, since most of the games on my PC run on...ahem...emulators.
@super58173 PPjoy isn't compatible. This runs very different hardware and requires entirely different software (drivers) to run, so it wont be compatible with other pieces of hardware.
The Kinect isn't comparable, as it's controllerless and one of a kind. The Move is comparable. The biggest difference between the PSMove and the Hydra is the fact that the controllers don't have to be in sight of the base. Other than that, they are fairly similar. However, it's designed for PC games so...
I have seen a few more gaming stuff videos and all of them only went up to 360p.I got mad and scrolled down too see this one and it said 1080p.I smiled and click on the video and turned it to 1080p and don't see the guys face. When I go to look at the video for once i see a really really really ugly face.
@Bon0 They actually have that...sort of. It's called a 'MIDI Controller' and allows you to play instruments like the piano and drums virtually. Pretty cool.
@Bon0 I feel like it will be the most satisfying feature of the Hydra. Really excited for them to implement it into Left 4 Dead 2. It's coming, but nobody knows when.
Do the controllers have to be plugged into the hydra or is that just for charging purposes also is there some guns available for you know like the sharpshooter for the move on ps3 to play fps's?
@darkdweller18 The controllers have to be plugged in the hydra all the time; they are not wireless. As of now, there are no kinds of add ons or additional hardware you can get, and Sixense has expressed no intention on providing them eventually. That doesn't mean those sorts of things wont be available in the future, however.
A dercent lookup, i like the whole design. I just wonder, was the aiming a bit odd, or is that the game? BEcosue i personally think the aiming should be a LOT superior to mouse actually, was it?
@bloodi01 In some ways, it is superior. In most, it is not. This is mostly due to 2 factors: After playing with the keyboard + mouse for so long, it definitely takes some adjusting, and the controller has a slight jitter to it. This is because the thing is so sensitive and accurate, it detects the slightest twitch in your hand...for an experiment, hold you hand out in front of you and try to hold it without moving...at all. It's impossible. They're working on that though in the Beta.
@raeez51 You can compare it to any controller split in half. It is very similar; each side has buttons, a joystick, and 2 triggers. They're not going to reinvent the wheel. That's what people know and enjoy. They just added a whole new element; motion.
@brokensidex The Onza is a game pad, which has no relation to a motion controller. Comparing the two is like saying you prefer the Mamba mouse to the Saitek keyboard because it looks better and is cheaper. They're entirely different devices.
i had read the comment before watching the review in its entirety and i immediately thought that the person indicated that the both devices were using infrared ( glasses and hydra). so i thought it best to remove my ignorant remark...
@1981z28camaro That...is a really good question. The best answer I can give you for that is "probably not". The magnetic field generated by the Hydra is EXTREMELY low, so as to maintain high accuracy. I don't *think* it would conflict, but honestly, I'm not sure.

A feature that lets you play 2 player on-rails shooters with those two controllers!
Since it technically is able to trace your aim and movements, it shouldn't be a problem to do the same for both controllers and have people make on-rail shooters for the PC again!
PC on-rail shooters are kinda outdated but yeah...
@Xiphion They are one-to-one and have 0 lag. You'll find these controllers far more responsive and accurate than the Wii Controllers. The Playstation Move comes close, but I find these to be even more accurate than those. Most likely this is due to the fact that these are not wireless, but also because they utilize an entirely different engine / technology for the motion tracking. I feel it is superior to the current generation of motion controllers.
@starwarsvideos Thanks for the quick response. This controller seems VERY impressive. I hope the upcoming Battlefield 3 will have some integration, that would be extremely fun to play with.
A few more questions. Is it possible to use one of the controllers as a mouse, like on your desktop, and use gestures as shortcuts to applications? Does the controller use lots of resources? Noticed any drops in FPS while using it? Can I bind whatever keys and macros I want to it?
@starwarsvideos Hey, could you message me with that info too, I would really like to know the extense at which these controllers can be used. :D I'm particularly interested for RTS games.
@K0lsyr4 Yeah both controllers have wires that connect to the base with the green ball and the base has a wire that connects to your PC via USB. It does seem like a lot and is pretty surprising that they didn't implement wireless for them, but they did it for several reasons, the most notable being to ensure players stay within X feet of the base, to get optimal performance. The wires really aren't that bad.
wow im suprised this only has 5 views... Really awesome review man. How well do you think it will work with an rts? Also do you know how many games have direct support for it?
@darcwave Thanks a bunch! I put it up about a day ago, so hopefully it will pick up speed and gain some views.
I think for an RTS it would work really well. I do believe it might get difficult with certain commands, seeing as there's a total of 5 dedicated buttons per controller (plus 2 if you count the joystick's button press).
As of right now only one game has direct integration; Portal 2. However the product is about a month old at this point and Portal 2 was it's way to get some fame.
@darcwave However Sixense has promised future direct integration of other titles. The only one they've announced so far is Left 4 Dead 2, but if you look on Sixense's youtube channel, you'll find videos showing off LOTS of games with direct integration.

Are the motion controls one-to-one? Or is there a bit of lag, like playing on a normal wii controller?
Xiphion 5 months ago
@Xiphion They are one-to-one and have 0 lag. You'll find these controllers far more responsive and accurate than the Wii Controllers. The Playstation Move comes close, but I find these to be even more accurate than those. I feel it is superior to the current generation of motion controllers.
