I never understood the criticisms towards Shelly Hack on this show. I thought she was beautiful and was better or at least as good an actress as Cheryl Ladd or Jacyln Smith. I've never really understood why she was fired from the show. She was made a scapegoat for the slip in the ratings but if you're objective the ratings already began to slip the previous year in season three. What they should have done was make Hack's character a former model not a former cop.

@JohnQ1127 I agree with you! They should have given Shelley more lines. Actually, they should have brought her on the show Kate's last year. That way, the fans would have started getting used to her then. It wouldn't have hurt to have 4 angels at the same time. Shelley was terrific, and they made her a scapegoat like you said. The show had already lost Farrah. Then, with Kate leaving, that was a double whammy! Thanks for your post!

@Beautifulmusiclistnr maybe had they know Kate Jackson was officially leaving the show during season 3 they might've adjusted accordingly but as for Shelley in s4 having a reduced role. From what i read, it seemed she couldn't act and refused an acting coach so they reduced her role until she was good enough to carry a main episode. But, when she did she really was terrific.

Ta! Not to be mean, but, out of all six of the "Angels" my favorite are, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and, Cheryl Ladd. Kate Jackson was alright, I somewhat like her for she was one of the original three. Both Shelley Hack, and, Tanya Roberts were just "Wannabee Angels" they can never be compared to the other four on any level.

Yes, check out Password and Super Password. It was a treat to see all of them on "The Flying Nun".

@gmfd76 I think you're right. Tiff is perfect undercover as an elegant, aristocratic woman but it's her slight sendup of that type of woman that gives the Tiffany character charm. Tiff looked liked she had airs but it wasn't really her.

I love all the angels, but Shelley Hack was the only one of them that could really act. She was more talented than what the show gave her to work with. I wish she'd done more high profile things.

Shelley hack was unfairlly blamed for the falling ratings - the show did no better with Tanya Roberts (though it is just as unfair to blame Tanya and describe her as horrible)

Charlies Angels had simply outstayed their welcome, but the success of the movies with Cameron, Drew and Lucy proved that they would be welcome back now ...

Shelley was so great in Angels,they were so wrong to let her go after only a season, it was that Horrible Tanya Roberts that killed the show, she was a bad choice and had no star quality..couldn't act to save her life!

I thought Shelley Hack was great, when she gets to act she did a great job I love watching the episodes where she actually had alot of screen time. I don't get why they blame her cuz of low ratings...its not fair for her...cheryl ladd had alot of screen time...shes great I love her but really they should even out the screen time between the three peoples instead of giving alot to one person

She never really did much of anything. Sorry, being sexy was not enough to be a good angel. I thought you would prove your case by showing a fight scene or her saving someone. Nothing against Shelly hack. She fine, but just the character was never given much to do to save the day.

I agree that Shelley was unfairly blamed for the falling ratings. Cop shows rarely lasted more than five years back in the '70s and Charlie's Angels was in its fourth year. Kate was popular, but Shelley had her own style as Tiffany. This scene proves how she could be sexy in a clever and elegant way. And her hair was always so chic.

Charlie's Angels was the show! The whole show is underestimated. Shelley Hack was so beautiful. The producers did not give her enough of a chance on the show. She just needed time to develop.

I agree I was really miffed when Tanya Roberts joined in season5,no offence to Tanya ,the shots of Tanya's breasts practically hitting the screen showed how desperate they were at this point,for ratings!

@Findyoursanctuary Get the fourth season of CA on DVD it has that episode plus all the others. I agree that Shelly Hack was really very good in the show once you got used to her. It is such a pity that she was replaced by that Tanya whats her name. I don't get what some of these others saw in her. She was like a really bad actress. True CA was never known for shakespearian quality, but Miss Roberts in my opinion was way too obvious.

I agree with you..SHELLEY HACK was a suitable replacement for KATE JACKSON, but the stupid producers, for some unknown reason, blamed Hack for the bad ratings in season 4, so they replaced her with TANYA ROBERTS, a girl who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, and received even WORSE RATINGS for season 5....go figure.

SHELLY HACK was classy & gorgeous as was TANYA ROBERTS' "Julie" was the polar opposite of "Tiffany." I liked 'em all but came here from the Philippines in June 1978 and I saw Seasons 3 to 5 in first run-maybe missing some episodes here and there but watched the majority in first run and a zillion times on syndication.

Thanks for sharing your favorite scene. It's a great one indeed. Her purple and silver metallic thread tunic is stunning. There needs to be more discussion of the Tiffany season. It's my favorite. The level of sophistication and fashion went up with Shelley. And Shelley's patrician east coast beauty is a perfect balance to Jaclyn's classic Hollywood and Cheryl's girll-next-door beauties. Shelley got a bad deal but fans know the great contributions she made.

I agree ! Some of the best episodes of the series are with her. Now that it is out on DVD, I hope people will discover what a natural talent she had as an actress. She gave a sagging show a fresh new look. I suppose having been a Ford and Revlon model, execs at ABC could not get past that, which would make them idiots ! Shelley may have got a bad rap back in the day, but time has proven what a wonderful asset she was to the show ! My favorite season by far.

she actually has many little delightful scenes here and there during the 4th season run of the show. shelley is so pretty and funny! the producers really missed out on this angel (and boy, did they pay dearly for that)
