Ah Yes the province of Ulster flag, i really like this flag. BTW it was designed by the English under English rule using the heraldic crest of the Anglo-Norman Burke family as the background and it represents the nine counties of Ulster as set out & defined by the English under the reign of Elizabeth the first. Before the English sorted everything out the borders of Ulster were constantly changing because of warring tribes, from as little as two counties to as large as eleven counties.

Northern Ireland has been officially without a flag for decades (only part of the UK to have no flag). If we did adopt this then republicans would have a hissy fit, so, best keep quiet eh? This shield is on some of our bank notes too.

Yeah this is the flag of the 'province' of Ulster, the flag with the crown and the star is the flag of Northern Ireland, it is called the 'Ulster banner' but most people just refer to it as the Ulster flag as Northern Ireland is located within the province of Ulster, every inch of Northern Ireland territory is Ulster territory.

Crosses in flags did not exist till after christianity and the catholic church came to Ireland,pagans used circles rather than crosses,if you look at Celtic crosses,you will see a change in beliefs in Ireland going back to saint patrick,you have a cross over lapping a circle,the circle is based on the Sun,and the cross represents the catholic church,it was the Catholic church trying to change the mentality of pagans in Ireland aka...Ardboe County Tyrone, Northern Ireland celtic cross.

It is definitiely not a British or Scottish flag,the flag is based on a pagan legend,way before the plantations of ulster,i dont know why they adopted it,i wondered,but they did change the colours of the flag,it does not have a yellow background,and red cross going through it,but the colour of the red hand is correct,it was william of orange that changed the colours of the flag to suit himself,it was his way of adopting the flag,and its people,original colours are green/blue.
