Check out parts 29 & 30, Schumer's questioning, and when Schumer asks him "Who sent you to Ashcroft's hospital room?" The speech that Gonzales tries to get out instead of answering the question. It's clearly scripted and memorized.
Every question asked of Gonzales was sent to him before this hearing. Committee members got tired of his showing up and saying, "I don't know," or "I'll have to get back to you on that," and so they sent him EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that they intended to ask him. You notice how some of Gonzales's answers sound like as if he was given a script (by the White House?) to memorize and spit out when he was asked the question at this hearing.
You've got a good ear to have picked that up. Bush, Rove, Cheney & Republicans have got stagecraft down to a science. If we all survive this administation, I predict that we're going to learn that the Ofc of the Atty General was managed from day 1 out of the White House, and Gonzales never was in charge. He was given scripts and orders as to what he should do each day.
If you're as "oldster" as me, you might remember the first glimpse of this kind of stagecraft: Ron Zigler in the Nixon administration. Zigler was never the brains behind the operation, but his start at Disneyland put ideas in all of their (Republicans') heads.
Man. I have my speakers turned all the way up in the computer and on my speakers. It's hard to hear. If you could somehow turn up the volume a bit when you post them you'd be my hero twice as the videos on CPSAN don't work.
Is anybody else having this problem? It sounds fine to me, both here and off-line. I'm sorry, but there's no way for me to turn it up or enhance the audio.
Thank goodness common sense prevails and hatch is in the minority
