Couldn't you change the settings for how many cores (or threads) a program is allowed to use? (I've never had to do that, so don't take my word for it)
with power: get multiple powersupplys and connect them to different rooms on different fuses.also u should consider. also what kind of ups do u use? You need at least one thats for servers not the small office ones. (apc with the ending RT). next you should messure the 12 w output of your powersupplys. rughly a dp server with full ram and no gfx takes about 330w on idle. hope that helps
thats the problem with server hardware used by desktop users. bios times are long with all server boards because theres more stuff to be checked and also its more carefull that everything is allright.be also aware that if u plugin in extra cards with own firmwares like raid controllers, lan cards etc. it can get stuck at post due to the restricted bios cache(cant be extended).i had that with a dual c32 socket server with 5 lan cards and a raid controller. As OS use an server OS like windows 2008r2
@gamersxs the 980 is outdated, the 2700k is a glorified 2600k, so u should buy a i7 3930k or whait for the ivy bridge(they will not be as fast as the 3930k, but will be cheaper for what you ger)
2 socket cpus are licensed to windows 7 ultimate/pro it dosnt matter how many cores you have , sounds like a gpu issue have you tried running with one gpu?
@HayLotion He has a normal mechanical HDD inside that PC, so his programs will not open faster than that unless he were to get an SSD. No matter if he had a 4 socket motherboard, the HDD is still his bottleneck when opening programs. As for the start up time and all, that is a much larger board which has to post two processors and much more RAM than you have in your PC so it is naturally gonna take long. Also, I am sure your PC was more than $200.
@HayLotion You might be the most computer illiterate creature on the planet and certainly on youtube. There's a ton of programs that require this sort of power. Every movie you've seen with CG in it was likely built on workstations with this or more powerful builds. That $200 e-machine or whatever bargain barrel fisher price device you call a computer would explode and set fire to your home and the rest of the homes in the projects you live in if you even tried to run programs like that, so STFU
Not sure if someone has mentioned this, but regarding the problem of certain programs crashing with more cores, it relates to when the program runs on a different CPU to what it was spawned with, and what happens is you get memory access violations. @willeyboy2 Not sure why you need that at an average wall socket... bigger is better right?? *sigh*. Also, most homes in america have 240v at 30amp for things like washing machines. I think the bigest down side for me is the power consumption and then the post both are reasons why I would not buy this motherboard even if I had the money. Looks to me more like any other server motherboard not to be meant to be shut off.
Hey Trubyd44 I was curious about the water cooling unit at the bottom of the case, is there anyway you could get me the model/name of that unit? I actually just bought the mobo you are using SR-2 but I am using it for super computing and I really liked the case setup you have here.

Great vid,thx 4 sharing bro.A bit overkill for gaming in my opinion, but hey if it makes u happy ;) It seams like u went into the build a bit unprepared, win7 HP o has a limit of 16gRam & 1cpu,so much 4premium.I had the pleasure of building 1of these for a designer in Toronto, but we used only2 vid card,Gtx580 OC & Quadtro2K for CAD & 3Dsmax rendering w e5620s.4a budget pow build we got a great piece of kit out of it@3.8ghz 24/7.Peeked@952W onH2O.Heh,4 OCed gtxs will def. help 2blow fuses:P Peace!

I dig your whole WC apparatus for instance. Also love the MM case!
Questions:
1. Wouldn't you be better off with only 2 GTX 480s or 580s + an Nvidia Tesla 2070?
A computer like that is complete overkill unless you are a computer enthusiast or a die hard over clocker. I don't even think there is a program that actually utilizes 12 cores.
so it work if you disable ht, is your windows 64bit? thanks for the info, i was planning on making a hackintosh pro, i think it might be a windows only issue? what do you think?
@Trubyd44 . ...Iam planning on getting dual xeon e5620's, 2 less cores then your cpu's should I expect to see any of these issues? ......glad to hear they resolved the frap issue. .....also,, how much did that electrician charge in all?
@Trubyd44 Thats stupid and rediculous. The PC looks like an absolute contraption. Your having to have an your house electrical circuit modified just to run that computer? Thats just stupid. Get an Extreme Edition core i9 or something coupled with a Rampage 3 mobo, it will deliver great performace at a much reduced cost, and it wont look like a giant contraption on your desk top. LOL. Why do you even need an SR-2? What is it that you need that type of computer for?
ROFLl to all of u. first off all im already building the same computer az him. and second of all when hes pushing his CPU's that much by turning on hyper threading it takes more power. What he can do is take 2 of his GTX480's out so he gets enough Voltage into his CPU's so he can run his computer in Hyper threading mode. Who gives a fuck about bragging right when u can own people in game and show them how good u are and not how good your computer is.
your a fucken retard dude straight up, why the fuck would u wanna run 4 GTX 480's?
u can play any fucken game made right now with 1 fucken GTX 480 and if u want go pro with 2 of them because u already bought that 1800W power supply. Stop beeing dumb and tryin to flatter urself by running 4 fucken GTX's and run 2 and play any fucken game u want without all thos problems
@Trubyd44 I think ehav213 is jealous or maybe he is just poor with no concept of being a PC enthusiast
although i am sure he can have a beast of a PC soon enough especially with the rent money he has been saving living in grandma's basement for all of his adolescent life LMAO !!!!!
Yo this aint my problem im telling u something that my friend is doing right now and his computer is running perfectly, hes got your motherboard a 1800W power supply or a 2000W not sure, 2GTX's and Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield and he turned on Hyper threading mode and over cloaked his Graphics cards and his computer is running fine. Im coming in here and letting u know something u can do from my experience that will work. Take out 2 of your graphic cards out and run hyper threading andrunFraps
@ehav213 he builds an unstopable computer, and he's a retard?.....sure, tell you what, take you head out of your ass, and learn how everything in a computer works. "Stop beeing dumb and trying to flatter urself by running" (i dont understand wtf you just said). this guy just worked his ass off on this computer, and your gonna give him shit because his computer will eat your manufacture (mac probably) for breakfeast.
@xXMakeItLookEasyXx ur a fucken fagot dude just shut ur mouth. i already have all the knowledge i need to build any computer. im just letting him know something he can do without going and buying another power supply. What it really seems like is that u dont have any knowledge in computers because if u did u would write what u just wrote
@coltisback12345 dude if ur really that desperate to brag to people in real life about how awesome ur computer is then u must be a poor unconfident little bitch just tryin to get some attention. But if u where a smart normal person u would put up Videos showing how good u are in games.
@ehav213 Hahaha You obviously think brightly in your logic. Go type in google "what is a computer" Then come back and post "I'm Sorry i have just figured out what computers are."
Seems like over kill, games aren't even that good to need such power not even crysis or metro, unless your trying to use that monster for a server or something
Hello and thanks for the video. Eye opener. I was considering this setup but with one toxic 5970. I want to run FSX. I really would like your comments on this idea and would like to ask if you have run FSX on the sr2. Thanks and all the best.
Trubyd44, what kind of fan controller(s) are you using on this case? I am in the process of getting a Mountain Mods case that will have about 25 fans. Please tell me the best fan controllers to get; I'll probably get four of them (to control 6 each).
On an sr2 4x stock oc'd (xxx/ssc) 5870's use up to 550w less at max system load than 4x gtx480's, 5870's are on average 20*c cooler with the stock blower fans and the 5870's got P48.5k vantage score while the 4 gtx480's only got 48k, Nvidia cards on average get better frame-rates at standard resolutions (less at 2560x1600+) in many games but with 4 cards that slight advantage is meaningless. why buy the more expensive/hotter/louder/slower/power intensive cards?
@girass You are correct on a lot of what you said...Vantage for sure! ...the reason to pick Nvidia if you can live with the extra power and heat is due to better framerates in actual games, better driver support, and PhysX works easily with Nvidia. I don't say your idea is wrong, I just chose a different route. I originally had dual HD5970s. I am no fanboy. Thanks for your comments! :)
@Trubyd44 lol sorry for most of that, i went all fanboy on you. Your right physx is annoyingly prevalent in games and has major impact also your right about driver support too. besides your liquid cooling the cards; so alot of what i said is irrelevant, thanks for having such a mature response to my post haha
are there like sweepstakes where we can enter to get "old" stuff. U do so many builds! I dony want to sound desperate but can we like suscribe and there might be like a lottery where someone wins an old piece of hardware (like an old 8800 gtx or something)?
Did you ever hear back about the PSU that can supposedly run all this alone, w/o a secondary PSU? I saw another video on here from XIComputerCorp where they have a triple SLI gtx 480 set up on an SR-2, overclocked and it's running on a single PSU, he doesn't say what PSU they're using though.
stuff it full of volotile explosives, pour water on it at full load (whilst the bombs are about to expload), put it between a 200 mile an hour head on collision, drop it out of an aeroplane, scatter its remains at sea and make a video out of it. remember to pour water on it from a long way away i dont want any one to get hurt. ha ha ha ha ha ha that would be a entertaining documentry
Circuit should have an easy as unplugging the 15amp and plugging in a 20 to 30 amp CB. Easy... hope you didn't spend too much on that work. Secondly, if you can build a computer like this surely you know how to swap our a breaker.
@Trubyd44, when shooting the monitor try to set the focus on manual. Focus manually then point, shoot and do your thing :) Fixed focus will prevent constant blurring and readjustments made by the camera when using autofocus.
Love the box but >1800W!? That's a lot of juice LOL!... you'll black out the whole neighborhood! LOL! That UPS won't be able to keep up with that load you need a generator dedicated to that boxzilla! ;D
the reason your POST is taking so long, is probably because you're using that XFI in addition to the 4 GTX480's, if you have any other PCI-E device installed all of the other slots (with the exception of the first slot) will only run in 8x mode and not the full 16x
Why not move it to the kitchen and throw out the cooker and replace it with this? Your kitchen circuit should be able to handle it plus you'll be able to maximise your multithreading potential by frying some eggs whilst running furmark. :)
@2mustange Probably not. My flow is already restricted a lot, and there would really be no gain by using the block, except for maybe it looking cool. :)
in windows task manager you can right click on something then go to set affinity and choose how many cores you want it to run on. i was thinking you could take the geforces out and put them in something smaller then put a tesla in the sr2 computer and get windows server and cluster the smaller thing with the sr2. i dont think there is any waterblockes for nvidia tesla's
you know most household breaker boxes have a 20 amp leg in the box, unless your box is old, then you may want to do updating on the house's wiring before you burn your crib up.
That sucks about the problems you're getting. That would totally piss me off after spending all that money. Especially about the whole fraps and mb booting slowly. I'm assuming you got it all fixed by now?
@Mudig Using MSI Afterburner instead of FRAPS so no biggie there, slow boot times is just something I've come to live with. :( I did get new circuits installed in my house, so that is fixed. :)
Nice and clean looking build, I prolly would have went with 2, 1500w ups, 1 for each power supply for 400 bucks verus the 1100 dollar 1850watt one. I have 20A circuts in my house tho so never had a problem with tripping breakers, unless i have other things on at same time like a vaccum.

u can play any fucken game made right now with 1 fucken GTX 480 and if u want go pro with 2 of them because u already bought that 1800W power supply. Stop beeing dumb and tryin to flatter urself by running 4 fucken GTX's and run 2 and play any fucken game u want without all thos problems

@ehav213 Yeah, you're a smart one.

Take out 2 of your graphic cards out and run hyper threading andrunFraps
ehav213 1 year ago
Guarantee it will work.
ehav213 1 year ago

But if u where a smart normal person u would put up Videos showing how good u are in games.

just out of curiosity how much did the total build end up running you??
Warhawke08 1 year ago
Seems like over kill, games aren't even that good to need such power not even crysis or metro, unless your trying to use that monster for a server or something
campbellsolo19 1 year ago
@campbellsolo19 go look at other bench marks a slightly better build still only got like 70fps average on crysis bench marks in 2560x1600

Hello and thanks for the video. Eye opener. I was considering this setup but with one toxic 5970. I want to run FSX. I really would like your comments on this idea and would like to ask if you have run FSX on the sr2. Thanks and all the best.

About that POST speed, try to understand, the BIOS is heavily modified from server-class BIOSes which are designed for as much stability as possible.

Trubyd44, what kind of fan controller(s) are you using on this case? I am in the process of getting a Mountain Mods case that will have about 25 fans. Please tell me the best fan controllers to get; I'll probably get four of them (to control 6 each).
Ooga001 1 year ago
what type of case is that, I want to do a build with this motherboard and I can't find a compatible case

On an sr2 4x stock oc'd (xxx/ssc) 5870's use up to 550w less at max system load than 4x gtx480's, 5870's are on average 20*c cooler with the stock blower fans and the 5870's got P48.5k vantage score while the 4 gtx480's only got 48k, Nvidia cards on average get better frame-rates at standard resolutions (less at 2560x1600+) in many games but with 4 cards that slight advantage is meaningless. why buy the more expensive/hotter/louder/slower/power intensive cards?
youtube.com/watch?v=9508jcoxFQI
girass 1 year ago
@girass You are correct on a lot of what you said...Vantage for sure! ...the reason to pick Nvidia if you can live with the extra power and heat is due to better framerates in actual games, better driver support, and PhysX works easily with Nvidia. I don't say your idea is wrong, I just chose a different route. I originally had dual HD5970s. I am no fanboy. Thanks for your comments! :)
Trubyd44 1 year ago
@Trubyd44 lol sorry for most of that, i went all fanboy on you. Your right physx is annoyingly prevalent in games and has major impact also your right about driver support too. besides your liquid cooling the cards; so alot of what i said is irrelevant, thanks for having such a mature response to my post haha

are there like sweepstakes where we can enter to get "old" stuff. U do so many builds! I dony want to sound desperate but can we like suscribe and there might be like a lottery where someone wins an old piece of hardware (like an old 8800 gtx or something)?
Bamchucknorris 1 year ago

LawnFeeder 1 year ago

LOL! That UPS won't be able to keep up with that load you need a generator dedicated to that boxzilla! ;D

MaloEdu 1 year ago
the reason your POST is taking so long, is probably because you're using that XFI in addition to the 4 GTX480's, if you have any other PCI-E device installed all of the other slots (with the exception of the first slot) will only run in 8x mode and not the full 16x
CrashOverride159 1 year ago
the post time, could it be because theres soooo much hardware and ram to read and check that it just takes that long to do so

how much is this computer has al ready made in U.S. dollars
44rojek 1 year ago
Pity about the power draw...
Why not move it to the kitchen and throw out the cooker and replace it with this? Your kitchen circuit should be able to handle it plus you'll be able to maximise your multithreading potential by frying some eggs whilst running furmark. :)

That sucks about the power. I wish I could max out my socket, but I get about 3500W from the sockets here. Electricity bills are so fun. :/

in windows task manager you can right click on something then go to set affinity and choose how many cores you want it to run on. i was thinking you could take the geforces out and put them in something smaller then put a tesla in the sr2 computer and get windows server and cluster the smaller thing with the sr2. i dont think there is any waterblockes for nvidia tesla's

Is a 20AMP circuit gonna be enough? Should have put in a 30AMP maybe. Just curious, how much did that cost, did it take the electrician a long time?
vamp9190 1 year ago
@vamp9190 I ended up putting two 20A circuits...most 30A breakers are two pole and that isn't the best thing for a socket.

you know most household breaker boxes have a 20 amp leg in the box, unless your box is old, then you may want to do updating on the house's wiring before you burn your crib up.

That sucks about the problems you're getting. That would totally piss me off after spending all that money. Especially about the whole fraps and mb booting slowly. I'm assuming you got it all fixed by now?
Mudig 1 year ago
@Mudig Using MSI Afterburner instead of FRAPS so no biggie there, slow boot times is just something I've come to live with. :( I did get new circuits installed in my house, so that is fixed. :)
Trubyd44 1 year ago
Nice and clean looking build, I prolly would have went with 2, 1500w ups, 1 for each power supply for 400 bucks verus the 1100 dollar 1850watt one. I have 20A circuts in my house tho so never had a problem with tripping breakers, unless i have other things on at same time like a vaccum.
