no, keeping the score only affects the combo score from the 10th kill onwards. Each normal guy after the 10th you kill gives only 700 bonus each, even if he is the 200th or 300th guy.

Grabbing a bonus time from there makes each kill give a 1000 combo score, negating the 4000+ points he would have lost from killing the first 9 enemies.
