    can someone help please ?

  • @samikhoury83 You will need to contact Dell and see if they can send you another disk. There may be a fee... I don't really see any other way for you to solve the issue.

  • Thank you VERY much our computer Was in GREAT pain it had like HALF a gig left we digged deeepp deeepp down in the desk and found our old restore disk we spent the rest of the night saving important files on usb drive. Then i put in the cd today and i restored it i had a couple more options then you but i decided the best and yep. One option was to transfer the files or to have a new fresh versio of windows xp i click on the one were it deleted our files and had a new fresh versio of windows xp.

  • My is not connected when i go on internet explorer

  • I can't thank you enough!!!!!! I was trying to reset my computer for 5+ hours and took it to 3 diffrent computer stores - and all failed. I had my computer back in less than 30 minutes! :)

  • @enfotoad I've tried each option and the disc doesn't boot

  • @amcheung10 Then it looks like your system might have a different process from the Dell I am using. You will probably have to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD is the first choice to boot from. Look online for a guided tutorial on how to change the boot order for your Dell or contact Dell and they should be able to help you with the process.

  • on my desktop i dont have anything that says IDE CD-ROM and im on the exact same menu that ur on

  • @amcheung10 What options do you see instead? Try selecting the option that sounds to be the cd drive.

  • I have a Dell Latitude C610 and on the hard drive it has windows 2k but I want xp but when I try boting from cd it wont recognize it and gives the no bootable media found HELP

  • i reformat my husband's dell laptop after all the procedure done when th windows xp diplayed i checked the network connections the LAN does not appear what will i do?

  • @rosspaz1999 You will need your network card's driver. Luckily Dell stores all your drivers online on their support and driver website. Once your at that site select your machine's information. Then you should a list of computer parts and other stuff. Find something with a title of Networking, Lan, (something along those lines). Then download the newest driver(s) and install then restart and see if it works.

  • u r mint it took me a copple gose but then it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i ordered this cd off amazon. does it require like a code or anything? cause the cd is coming from another computer and i plan on using this cd on a laptop and a desktop

  • i got acer aspire one and it got blue screen when i start will this fix it

  • i have 2 different dell laptops. can i use a newer operating system disc on the older laptop. they are both the same windows

  • I don't think I completely understand you but if you mean putting the newer laptops os disk in the older laptop, I don't think it would hurt to try. If to doesn't work you can just go back with the older disk.

  • Like i have the old school looking type not flat screen like yours but can i use that reboot disk and put it into mines or do they have like their own settings for each?

  • soooo confused! everything has gone...you say place drivers on a flash drive and then what? please help me (-:

  • So hopefully before you started this process you backed-up all your documents, pictures, ect... Then you went through the process in the video. Now your computer is just like it was when you took it out of the manufacture's box. Only problem is some things may not function correctly. That is why you need to download the drivers and put them on a flash drive and then install the drivers on the Dell computer.

    Hope this help!

  • i have dell inspiron 1420

it has a recovery option in my computer

    it has vista in it..

but i want xp..the setup u told..i tried it but its not allowing me to install xp...!!

  • can some help me my hard drive broke down so my question is 1s i put a new hard drive in do i need to put the windows operating system? and install it can some 1 that knows about computer reply me

  • Thanks that was what i did. Had to chat with dell to find out. You should show people how to add the IDE CD-ROM. to appear at the BOOT DEVICE MENU. It was not showing up with me then saw another video that somehow got me to find out how to add it. Pressing F2 and DELETE at the start up. Other than that this video walked me through the whole process. Thank you man.

  • how can i download the drivers if i have no connections now?

  • You will need to go onto a computer that has internet access and download the drivers onto a flash drive.

  • is it need install the driver too..., I dont have driver.

  • You can download them at the Dell support website.

  • Can I 100% trust this one? I've been seen clips that's false, so I hope this is the right way to do it. So is it?

  • send me the link?

  • u know why my sound isn;t working?

  • You need to install the sound card driver found on Dell's support website.

  • i press 12 and i only have cd-dvd, cd-r ,dw/drive

i dont have and ide cd rom??? how what do i do now?

  • Select anything that would possibly relate to your CD drive.

  • Please i really need help. I followed the Step 1, Turn on the computer and press F12.

Step 2, Selected IDE CD-ROM option and press Enter. Then it goes to log on screen where you enter your password. It didnt ask me to press any key when prompted. And i dont know how to bring up the Windows XP setup screen like shown in your video.. Is there something wrong with my Operating system disc?

  • There is no logon screen during the process. Could you verify what it says on the CD and also let me know if anything appears after pressing enter but before the "login" screen you are getting.

  • Hi Enfotoad. Thank you for your reply. It says on my disk "Operating system. Already installed on your computer. Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP home edition including serice pack 1a"

I selected IDE CD-ROM Device , then hit Enter from the Boot Device Menu. After that, just the Windows XP logo appears and then the log on screen. Just like when you turn on your pc. It didnt say * Press any key to boot from CD* like the one it shows on your video at 0:15

  • No from my knowledge.

  • i lost my cd but i have one from gateway with windows xp can i use that insted

  • You shouldn't do that. First, it is illegal. And second it may just destroy the Dell computer by installing incorrect drivers. Talk to Dell and see if they would send you another disk in the mail.

  • i need help.....ok i did that and how to i set up the internet

  • you need to install a network driver from Dell support

  • I'm able to get to the point where the OS spends about 1/2 hour loading, runs a bunch of commands, then reboots. I see the Windows XP logo as it is booting up, but instead of going to the desktop, it goes to a dark (almost black) screen. It is unresponsive. I started with a brand new hard drive. This has happened several times. Any ideas?

  • I would presume that replacing the original hard drive is causing the issue.

  • The new hard drive is identical to the old one; both are Western Digital 250 GB SATA drives manufactured in 12/2006. I'm trying to avoid using my original drive, as I'm getting a missing system file error and don't want to endanger the pictures, etc. that are on it.

  • You need the original hard drive for your computer or a hard drive that meet your computers specifications. The hard drives you are using probably dont meet your computers specifications. Your Western Digital 250 GB SATA needs a better Motherboard. The motherboard you have now doesn't meet its specifications. In other words you need a upgrade. And losing your pictures is a lost your gonna have to take to Reinstall a new Operating System.

  • My new drive is virtually identical to my original drive. Both are WD 250 GB SATA. Both were manufactured in 12/2006.

  • For me its says that "hivedef.inf" is damage or something so I cant countinue. Help me plzz, the problem comes up at after the loadning at 1:25.

  • Try doing the process again.

  • why does mine take like 6 hours to install windows???? please help

  • The process may require patience depending on how fast your processor and hard drive is.

  • And also doesn't it also depend on how fast your disk drive speed is, and how fast it can copy files off the cd?

  • Correct. Hard drive speed of 7200RPM over the common 5000RPM is good and also at least 1GB of RAM for a older computer (2GB or higher for newer XP machines).

  • Oh, good point, I meant the cd drive :P. I think my hard drive is one of the slower rpm's. It's a hp pavilion zv5000. It's ok, but the fan overheats the battery and now the battery doesn't work (only for 3minutes). If you unplug the ac cable it hibernates :(

  • i help you :) add tero_alex008

  • i've got a hp laptop BUT my xp install disk has probably exactly the same thing on it.

I have problems installing xp home onto my hard drive (no virtual pc). No.1 It doesn't ask for the time or date. And No.2 when it boots up for the first time (where it says welcome), i don't get the welcome screen, i get a login box and a black background with the username set to Administrator and I have no idea what the password is. I've tried everything I can but I can't login :'(

  • Funny... I have HP laptop too but never encountered this problem. You may want to do a live chat with a HP support agent.

  • yes... funny. I tried installing it again and it worked perfectly fine. But i still didn't get the time or date form. And some Windows XP Home os' have the the video at the start and the music (which I quite like).

  • You can double click on the clock in the taskbar and go to Synchronize tab (or whatever it is called) and it will setup with the US government time website.

  • 1 question does it have to b the purple 1 can it b the dark blue cd??

  • Sure... as long as it says something like Windows XP... Reinstall or Restore CD

  • goood post man this help me out alot! thanx

  • Hi,

My computer is acting up, it wont let me install anything and some tings are not working. I want to reinstall XP. I have tried saving the drivers, it will not let me install the download manager to save the drivers. What can I do?

  • I was able to save each driver (one by one). But now, I cannot get pass step #4 "allow it to load"...when do I push enter after loading? It loads normally.

  • You mean it boots back into xp?

  • Yes...I cannot get pass the "press any key to boot from CD to get that blue screen...

i just found a way to do it in safe mode using the restore\rstrui.exe thing

  • Well, I just tried doing the safe ode w/command prompt..typed c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe to try getting it back to the original state when I got it, it does not go that far back. I tried doing to last week, it wont restore to any point. What can I do?

  • mode*

  • when I try to delete the partition by pressing D, it wont let me. Says theirs important info needed to finish installation. I would appreciate your help.

  • Try drive C... if there is.

  • Thank You!!

  • I have two drives (C:) and (D:). Will i lose files from both drives.

  • Depends on which one you decide to partition or format. C: is usually where you find the OS installed. You will more than likely lose your personal files.

  • i have a dell dimenson 2350

  • My dell laptop was acting up so i tried to reinstall the windows xp disk but when it came to the please wait window it took a whole day to finally say it didnt work...what should i do? im trying it again but its prob gunna take another day...is that normal speed????

  • It shouldn't take that long. You may want to contact Dell.

  • My Dell didnt come with a Operating systems disc is it possible for me to buy one? Or my PC already come with one?

  • you should have one, look for the purple colored disc, all dell computers come with it, just find the bag that has the manuals, and discs, and you'll need the purple one, and the one that's blue and says drivers at the top, you'll need this so that Windows can identify all of the hardware your computer has.

  • sure... it should work

  • okay so... the computer is at homescreen now, everything loaded. i insert the disk, and then it pops up saying install windows xp or something. when i restart it, i hit the any key to start boot menu. after that it loads all the drivers. i hit enter to start the boot, and from there, the computer says i didnt insert the disk. YES i put the boot from usb cd or whatever first on the boot sequence. do you know whats wrong?

  • What other options do you have when pressing enter? Also what does it say for enter?

  • i dont remember but i think it was either quit or something else i forgot.

  • What is that "something else"?

  • it was repair.

  • I really don't know what to do at this point. I would try repair.

  • i have this purple cd tahts an operating system reinstallation cd including service pack 2. would this cd work, bc my computer isnt recognizing it... plz help

  • Are you booting at startup or inserting while logged into Windows? You need the computer to boot into the disk during its start up.

  • Ok i did everything in this video and it helped alot but now when i startup my computer it goes to a screen saying select operating system and they both say window xp how do i get rid of it from doing that if you can comment me back i will be very greatful

  • I got this far just fine, but I can't seem to get the drivers. I have discs that are supposed to have them but they don't seem to be working right. I would get them from the website, but I can't access the internet without the driver. I need help

  • How are you commenting on Youtube? Use the computer you're using right now to download all the drivers. Then put them on a flash drive or CD and plug it into the Dell computer. Install all the drivers and it should work after a restart.

  • lol thanks, I'll do that then

  • Finally I reinstall windows XP. Thanks a lot enfotoad

  • After I select CD-ROM it is asking me to hit F1 or F2 which won't show me the screen that you have. Please help

  • ok so i tryed this and i click enter on IDE-CD but it just starts up normaly. then i try to log in and it just logs in and logs me out right away so i cant get on any of my stuff. what do i??

  • To get your stuff out I recommend running the system in safe mode and then trying to login. Strike F2 on your keyboard repeatability during the beginning of the start up and your computer should show a option that lets you load in safe mode.

  • i cant get on the computer on safe mode either

  • The only way(s) that I can think of to get your data back is to find some way to run the computer in safe mode or to send it to a hard drive recovery or computer shop and see if they can recover your files for you.

  • ok so i recovered all of my files now im just trying 2 reinstall xp and it still wont let me do that. it just starts normally??? what should i do

  • Well you will need to go into BIOS and change boot order. Google it and you should find step by step screenshots on how to do it.

  • ok i did that and yet again it would not let me do anything it would just have a message like cant boat normally change. f1 to try again and f2 to change settings back. and even if i had the disk drive first it would just skip right over it even with the reinstall disk in there?? im lost haha

  • will this work on laptop? just wunderin

  • Yes... the process may be slightly different though.

  • how different? cuz i don't really have a dell its a compaq laptop and i want to do it..

  • hey im trying to do the following but when i press F12 it shows me different option than what it shows you and yes i have a dell pc

  • What are the options?

  • do u know anywere, were u can get the dell operating system disk? like store or internet or something?

  • Call Dell and see if they can send you another one in the mail. There may be a fee but I'm sure the fee will be less than buying a new genuine copy of Windows.

  • i have service pack 2 and 3 but how do i get the 25 character product key?

I have the envelope and the number doesn't have 25 characters

  • You must have a legal genuine copy of Windows... ask Microsoft if you are unable to find it.

  • But I install windows XP Proffesional so Wut can i Do...

    Thanks

  • I need help my Display is 638x638 the screen resolution a...and i try it to change but I can't wut can i Do to fix the screen because is to Big and some drivers are missing because i restore my detstop computer.....

    Thanks...

  • You need to download graphic drivers from Dells Support Website (link on sidebar).

  • do u know where i can get all the drivers and what not

  • Link in sidebar... you need to go to Dell Driver website (google it) and type in service tag number or select the exact model.... you can then download whatever drivers you need

  • Problem I made it to welcome to setup screen and I hit enter and it will not do anything...what do I do now? It is like frozen.

  • Problem here. When i press F12 and then press option 4, it doesn't prompt me to press any key to continue, but instead starts up Windows. Any suggestion?

  • Looks like your options are different. Don't just pick 4 since the video says. Find the one that says something like CD-ROM.

  • took me awhile to download all the drivers and that :p ..... ooh and um shud ther still be some old files from wat i had on my computer b4 or shud they all be gone !?!?!? idk if i did it rite !?!?!

  • Where u get the cd?

  • The CD should have come with your computer. They are usually referred to as the recovery disk.

  • What if i dont have one can i buy one?

  • You can call Dell and they can send you a new one. There may be a fee...

  • my computer restarted but....the screen is all black :/ do you know what it means?

  • Is this after reinstalling Windows XP?

  • i got it but that "blue screen of death" thing had shown up while it was reloading the XP

  • The only thing I can suggest is try reinstalling Windows XP again or do a hard drive wipe with DB Nuke and then install Windows XP.

  • I've put the disk in the computer and started it but nothing happens when I hit F12 & it just continues to normal startup. Any suggestions?

  • Go into BIOS and set the CD ROM as the 1st boot choice instead of hard drive. IT should automatically boot into the cd.

  • My dell windows xp is malfunctioning. it rebooted and changed to windows 98 out of no where. i cant switch it back, the internet works, then shuts down, cam you help me?

  • Insert the disk and then go into BIOS and set it to load into CD.... then restart and you should be able to run the CD and reinstall XP.

  • whats the organization?? and if i reboot my computer will it delete microsoft word and internet explorer????

  • What do you mean by organization?

This completely wipes the entire computer to when you first opened it out of the box.

  • ur install xp sp1 lol i just got windows flp for my soon 2 me 10 yr old comp and it makes my comp faster i used 2 have home sp1 lol classic i like the way it says home edition but i like the professional

  • i must have misplaced my dell cd is there any other way of rebooting xp without my disk?

  • If you mean reinstalling Windows XP... unfortunately, no. You can contact Dell customer service and see if they can send you another one.

  • does this require a dell computer, or can you install it on any old XP?

  • sent you message

  • thanks a lot this will help me out. but do i have to download the drives. what if i have a cd of the drivers how do i run that?!

  • Simply insert the CD into your drive and it should automatically load. If not go to My Computer and double click on the CD drive.

Note: CD drive doesn't need a driver to run...

  • im sure you have this question a lot but, i dont have my windows xp disk, im on a dell home edition and i want to clear my computer and start it all over again. is there a way i can still reinstall windows without the disk? or is there a way i can get another disk? please message me because im not good with seeing responses. thanks!

  • You will not be able to do it without the disk. You can call Dell customer service and see if they can send you another one. There may be a fee...

  • Um dude.

    Does it remove internet Connection

  • No it doesn't remove your internet. You need to install the drivers for the ethernet port. Try using your resource CD that came with your computer. If not go to Dell Support Drivers.

  • I do not think mine came with the 1 disk I needed so I called and let them know. Even though it was 3 years and 3 months old I got them to send me missing disk for free.

  • Wow, dude, this is epic. I am actually good with computers and this helped me. I was getting to the screen where I had to select the IDE drive and it wouldn't let me press enter. Turns out you have to press the enter button right above shift. Hahahahaha. 3 weeks of dead computer b/c of the wrong button. I'm soo glad I can laugh at this and not cry. Haha. Thanks dude.

  • sorry i don't have IED CD -ROM DEVICE what am i do ????

  • What are the options it gives you?

  • how can i get the phone number or website of dell

to get a new reinstall cd

  • Please try the following phone number: 1-800-624-9897

If this does not work look up dell support phone number in Google.

  • can you do it without the disk? :/

  • Unfortunately, you can not do it without the disk. Your best option is to call Dell and see if they can send you another disk. There may or may not be a fee.

  • I suggest updating to sp2 b4 going on the net though as it has the better firewall etc or maybe all the way to sp3 if you download the standalone installers.

  • I unintentially started the Windows XP Professional setup process. How can I exit it?

  • It depends. If you are in the middle of installing, deleting, or formatting it is to late, as exiting out of the process would result in a corrupt copy of Windows. If you are in the process of clicking on the licensee agreement, just turn of the power of the computer and boot up again. Make sure to take out the CD.

  • Some Windows XP Cd's are old. That's why the screen resolution aws huge. That happened to my pc when I installed it on Thanksgiving.

  • So after I download all the stuff where do I put them?
