If our country had national health care like the rest of the industrialized world, we'd be a lot more competitive. Compensation is based position not performance. The problem ain't with the unions.

Read some history? Yes back then unions were gold, but today they do ruin many good business. Unions didn't ruin anything. We can't compete because government has made it more profitable to manufacture products offshore. Look at Walmart. Back in the seventies 90% of what they sold was made in the U.S. Now they help companies move their manufacturing to China so they can produce and sell products more cheaply. In China, the government gets a piece of every joint American/Chinese company. It's gold for China, good for corporate management, not so good for U.S. workers or the unions.
