Firstly, I would call my self a total muscle car,no replacement for displacement,FR drive type person, but the 500 is the only modern car Iv glanced at and im keeping my fingers crossed for the Abarths too,Second the reason why there is a mopar Fiat 500 is because Chrysler is now owned (partnered/merged or whatever the fuck they want to call it) by Fiat so don't think that fiat is soiling the precious muscle car image because that been happening since the early 80's.
"Fiat sucks" ... right, because Italians know nothing about auto design.
"Fiat USA is crap because it's built at the old Chrysler PT Cruiser/Neon factory in Mexico"... Fiat invested in re-tooling the factory to a state of the art production center. Also, the 1.4l and 1.4l turbo engines are built at the state of the art GEMA factory in Dundee, Michigan.
Fiat also controls Ferrari, Alpha-Romeo, Maserati...they are world class.
My only question is if I should wait for the Abarth 500 or buy now.
The Fiat 500 received top honors in Germany's J.D. Power and Associates survey of customer satisfaction - It's a fun, stylish, iconic AND quality car -- everything a Skoda isn't.............SKODA = dull budget VW with badge stigma!!
@mgrande11 Me neither - its another girlie fashion accessory like the Mini.No self respecting male would want to be seen in it - its like Paris Hiltons handbag!
this is not mopar, this mercedes shit, ever seen a 4-door charger,i have never seen one, even the micro itchybushy 2.2 charger where coupes for christ sakes.the only sedans i remember were the coronet, monaco, polara and dart.
The haters are idiots. Muscle cars are LAST CENTURY. There are Supercars, which are way more impressive, and on the more practical level there are small performance cars, which smoke muscles in every category except for maybe straight drag racing and 0-60.
Bottom line, people care about economy these days - so a car that delivers on handling, fun AND economy is a winning combination. Mopar just happens to be WITH the curve. In case you haven't noticed, auto is a global industry.
@nogunri I agree with everything you said. Small lightweight sports cars are going to replace muscle cars. I personally would rather drive a muscle car but gas prices, environmental factors, and other factors are causing change. I sat in this car at the auto show and its not a crap car.

I think this will be a great car... just like the 500 abarth has been everywhere else hopefully mopar don't fuck it up by putting way too much horsepower into it. Why couldn't we just get the normal abarth version
I liked it...kind of a fun idea for the show. It's not vintage Mopar muscle but so what. I actually sat in it at the Detroit show...pretty neat little car.

I can't believe that Mopar has stooped this low. I mean, a 500? Really? Mopar used to be all about muscle, now they are customizing a little Italian piece of crap? I have lost all respect for this once great American aftermarket brand. Fiat is going to ruin Chrysler's American spirit
@AutoMotive78 I don't think Fiat can ruin chrysler because chrysler already ruined itself. Chrysler never had a fully american spirit to begin with. I do agree Mopar shouln't be messing with nothing else but chryslers, dodges, jeeps, etc. Fiat already has abarth. making a 500 Mopar it's just wrong. The 500 is one great little car with one major flaw... its price. but so is the Mini Cooper and so far it has been very successful, so let's see what happens on this chapter.
@AutoMotive78 its not like they had a choice since abarth probably ain't gonna get the 500 abarth to america that quickly and fiat told mopar to give it a go
@Robinson4643: The Charger is pretty damn awesome and Motor Trend praised it as nearly being a "Performance Legend". The only thing holding it back is the 5 speed which is soon going to be replaced with an 8 speed which is first being tested in the 300S. They're also considering the 6 speed manual but it's unknown if they will use it. Still, I would buy a Charger in a heart beat if I could afford it.
@AutoMotive78: Mopar has been a Parts and Services division of Chrysler since the 1920s before Muscle Cars existed. They are not "all about Muscle". They offer luggage racks, wheels, Interior trim pieces, door sill guards and so on for modern Chrysler products. Fiat is a welcome partner who is giving Chrysler the funding they need to build newer better cars and there is nothing wrong with Mopar saying "thank you" by accessorize the 500 to help make it a little more appealing to Americans.
@AutoMotive78 What do you expect from a company that brought you the SRT 4 Neon or the ugh Dodge Daytona what a pos that was, looked nice but everything broke.
@AutoMotive78 >> Italians helped the Chrysler brand Because it was going out of business <<... if you say that the 500 is a "piece of crap" then you do not know anything about cars. Please respect what you envy. I hope you understand!

Yea I see your point...not much muscle. If they actually sell it at dealerships then I'll scratch my head...unless they can stuff a hemi into it.

@AutoMotive78 You know Chrysler helped design the engine, right? The Abarth is a turbocharged 1.4 liter making 170hp. That does not suck, sir....

Right... which is why they just announced a factory option for a supercharger on the 300, Charger, and Challenger SRTs for 2012...
This little car is cool. And I hope "SRT" makes a version of one. That'd be pretty kickass.
