  • Also even though im planning my era 2000- 2005 is there any way to light up the consist lighting individualy (a light per function) i also have a cpr caboose i bought recently by rapido trains even though with tax ontop of the price close to $60.00 the caboose is fonominal in detail both inside and out its like one of those things where some one would say pictures dont describe it until you see it in person its truly a sight :) im sure it would look great on ur rr in your rr scheme :)

  • Alright thanks for the info ill have to save up like but yea im sure we could possably do buisness although i dont make promesses cuz ill feel bad if something changes. But yea send me a message im conor btw :)

  • Sorry that the DH163 didn't work. That can happen from time to time. I wanted to mention that I do decoder installs as a part time thing for folks. I can install a SoundTraxx decoder in your loco for you if you want and install the same ultra bright LED lights that are in the GP-9 in the video. It would be $85 for the decoder, $12 for the speaker, $60 for the labor, and $10 for return shipping. Let me know and we can arrange something. The install is somewhat complicated if you've never done it.

  • Thank you so much for all your help i greatly appreciate it :) thank you i checked the 164 it didnt work now i have to bring it back but unfortunitely theyll only give me a new decoder and ill have to figure out what to do with it

  • You would not use the DH163 decoder because the SoundTraxx decoder has the motor control and similar lighting features that the DH163 has. In addition to these things it also provides sound all in one package. The SoundTraxx decoder will work on any DCC system so yes it will work with Digitrax DCC.

  • Thank you so much bud but with this decoder by soundtrax do i use the digitrax decoder i have dh163 or if not is the soundtrax decoder universal with digitrax dcc.

  • It's much easier to install a decoder with sound than to install a motor decoder and a separate sound decoder. SoundTraxx decoders will control the motor and lights as well as the sound all in one package. The appropriate sound for your loco is the EMD645 with turbo. It is available in many different style decoders. If you have an older Athearn Blue Box loco, use the TSU-GN1000. SoundTraxx #828051. You'll have to stick the decoder upside down to the inside roof. Speaker over the rear truck.

  • Hi bud i have a queston that i hope you or anyone else can answer im installing a mobile decoder by digitrax in my blue box sd40-2w and i was wondering can i add a seperate sound decoder to the loco by hard wireing it like my mobile decoder and what would be suitable for my locomotive ? Cn sd40-2w Thanks :)

  • Bad Ass!!!

  • Very authentic sounding and looking! Good Job!!

  • That is so cool with those working mars headlights and that red warning light and with it's sound, like that famous Southern Pacific wailing air horn sound.

  • Well you did a mighty fine job. Athearn has a new one comming out soon

  • I hate asking this, but how much would you sell it for?

  • @cweis127

It's actually not mine, belongs to a friend. I put the sound and lights in it for him and the video was meant for him to see it before I sent it back to him since he lives in another state. I'm pretty sure he would not be interested in selling it. It was a pretty easy install overall. The lights are just surface mount LEDs through Circuitron fiber optics all connected to the SoundTraxx decoder.

  • It's old Athearn from the early 1990's. I re-motored it and added the SoundTraxx sound decoder for a friend in California.

  • Athearn? Only they could make somthing that good

  • Definetly great motor sound, like the slow down and speed up whine.Nice.

  • muito lindo!!!!!

  • I like this!!! Great sound..

  • Thats's Fin awesome HO scale has come along way.

  • Awesome!!

  • Fantastic job on that GP9!

  • What brand is the GP9?

  • Just finished install same decoder in my CPRail GP9 .....like yours, sounds excellent.

  • you did a great job with the lighting effects in this locomotive. i like how you have the high beam and low beam, Plus the Gyralight and mars light. Simply amazing. Excellent Job. 5 stars and favorite!

  • I use Circuitron fiber optics up against a surface mount LED. The light output end is heated with my solder iron so it is clear. This also creates the "lens" and holds the fiber optics in place.

  • What did you use for lenses in the headlight and grya light?

  • That is friggin sweet! great work!

  • Taking care of my bud's GP9 I see. :)

  • Cool very nice
