@Any Trolls: Not everyone can afford a belt grinder. An angle grinder will do just fine for adding bevels, just sprinkle some water on the blade every now and then to avoid making the blade too brittle.

do you have to retemper it or just make sure you don't get it super-hot?

It will need to be re-hardened. The heat generated by the grinder will kill the hardness.
