This is why you're supposed to have a parking space, that's 5 feet longer than your car. I just saw that from a video, where parallel parking was taught on Youtube.

It was very brave of this guy to try to park there. In my opinion well done. The drivers to the front or back did anything wrong. It might have been a citroen c1 parked there before.

So that's a parking WIN in my opinion. Q: why on earth would he have gotten a fine?

@amjovi Yeah, except in the USA almost everyone drives an automatic transmission, which locks the car down when it's in "park." Americans are too lazy for stick shifts unless they drive sports cars or super cheap economy cars. Part two: People in Oakland lock their doors 99.9% of the time. A bit tricky to open the door :)

VW Passat is not a ladies car. In Portugal when i used to park my old Vectra near the wall on a very tight street there won't be space for a fly to pass betwen the mirror and the wall :), and i did that everyday for a few years until i moved somewhere else.

There is a easy way in a spot like that:

1-pull back end in till rear left tire touch the sidewalk

2-pull hand break to the max

3- turn wheel all the way to the right

4- put car in reverse and give lots of gas to get wheel spin, the car will get in there in a fraction of a second ...

5- to get out ,keep hand break on turn right and slam that gas pedal , you are out in a sec! .

Double parking? Where's this way of measuring parking bays lenght? I only knew about parking on double row (if that's English): where I come from we do both illegal parking, but this one you uploaded we do it all the time and it's not considered infraction whatsoever, it just makes it harder for the others (and himself again) to get out. Anyway, how do you allow for different cars lenght? I mean, a Mercedes is longer than a Mini, do you still expect them to take up the same space and spot?

@giammira The spots are measured out by the marks in the road. They're actually big enough for quite a large car, and two designated "parking spots" could easily accommodate three small cars (although this dude's pushing it), but it's actually illegal to park outside the lines. $85 parking ticket.
