My grandfather used to play this song on the harmonica for my Grandma. She passed away this week, and even during the viewing, he pulled out his harmonica and serenaded her. We were all in tears.
does anyone else see a young elvis in this performance? Eddie's version kick EP's off the shelf,,, not easy to do... would love to have seen Elvis do this rendition... but so happy to find this one by Eddie :) thanks for posting.
I do not only see a young Elvis, if I close my eyes I almost can HEAR him. It scares me a little bit, because until now, I thought, I could hear out EP among hundreds of interpretists. I wasn't aware of Eddie Cochran being THAT similar to Elvis Presley ! WOW!
Can any of you Eddie Cochran fans help settle an arguement...did Eddie ever record or sing "live" a version of Ritchie Valens's song"Hurry Up"....I'm sure I heard him feature this great rocker on a live UK radio show??
@algywatt check out on the site Remember Eddie Cochran (Sessions) (1958/3) -------------------------------- December 1958 Unreleased / demo lost Musicians - Eddie Cochran: vocal and guitar. 'Hurry Up' is a demo for Ritchie Valens who recorded it in january 1959. Eddie's fiancee Sharon Sheeley had written 'Hurry Up' for Eddie as he was always late. Eddie felt it would be a great song for Ritchie to record. --------------------------------------
It's hard to imagine that this guy died 50 years ago today (April 17th), I remember it so well even though I was only 14 years old at the time. His music is as great today as it was back then. RIP Eddie we still miss you!
im suprised that hes wearing a black suit.. cause as you can see, most of the others are wearing white jackets to stand out more on the picture, cause the cameras didnt pickup black as well. you just didnt see that much. if you look, even the man in black himself wore white jackets on old TV shows!
@squirrelnutcased If you look at the infor up in the right hand corner from rickyvale you will see that this was played in concert four days after the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, so maybe he's wearing back as a gesture of respect to these guys?!?!
Thanks to the late John Ritter and his brother Tom for opening the vault to share their father's tapes. Without them I don't think we'd have one audio/visual record of Eddie performing live. Every other film of EC i've seen had him lip-synching.
@rickyvale This performance was filmed as part of Tex Ritter's Town Hall Party television program. My DVD copies from Bear Family acknowledge in liner notes a thank-you to John and Tom; I was only seconding the commotion. I don't know if the Ritter estate owns the rights to Ranch Party tapes filmed at Columbia studios, but for the sake of history, I hope so.
arcane.bobs: Duke of Rock from XXCultradio just wanting you to know we play 59 yrs of Rock, including this song. Thanks for paying tribute. We think all Rock should be free, and videos like yours keep it that
This kind of made me sad. He had to of been so heartbroken as he sang this. It almost made me cry. He just keeps his cool the whole time. They were definitely quality back then. Thanks for posting!
On that very afternoon, just before this show took place, Ritchie and Buddy were buried, and obviously nobody took notice there in L.A. I think Eddie was the only one who cared about them but had to stay cool through this show. Must have been a hard evening for him.
his perfomance was excellent, perfect as usually. It's strange that the accident was not mentioned at all in the interview... Maybe to not not disturb the show
Wow! I'm speechless, 1st time hearing this song, just finding the greatest music tonight, I'm a huge Beatles fan & have just become Bigger fan to Eddie! Thx for sharing this Peace. Kenny:) P.S. I guess I wasn't speechless after all loved it.
""Have I Told You Lately that I Love You?" is a popular song written by Scotty Wiseman and published in 1945. It was the greatest hit of Wiseman and his wife and one of the first country music songs to attract major attention in the pop music field."
During a British tour with Gene Vincent in early 1960 Eddie played in Bristol. On the night time journey from Bristol to London the Ford Consul taxi in which he was travelling crashed into a lamp post at Rowden Hill, Chippenham. He was taken to St. Martins Hospital, Bath where he was pronounced dead. A permanent memorial stone can be seen at the scene of the crash. Gene Vincent and Eddie's girlfriend Sharon Sheeley were also a passengers in the car but survived.
I didn't know the date this was filmed, I just saw the year was 59 so I thought maybe this was one of Buddy's last performances. But both Eddie and Buddy made great music.
hey rickyvale.any chance in knowing the names of the other guys. If this is ghe kelly four I dont think thats guybo on bass.love to know the pianists name
Cool to hear the original! After Sissy Spacek starred in Coal Miner's Daughter, she cut a great country LP called Hangin' Up My Heart, which includes a sweet twangy arrangement of Have I Told You Lately... yeah!
I like this song. Wow.
