  • My all time favorite song by Karen.

  • Very Beautiful......such a lost of a natural singer ......love this song!!!!!!

  • If God Give Me A Chance To Wish To Be Back I Wish Karen Will Be Back Again

  • shes the best

  • Got here through Tommy Boy the movie....so...

  • May the whole world always love and remember Karen Carpenter.

February 4th 2013 it will be 30 years we have to live without her :-(

  • I didn't discover this song until it was covered by Superfan. When I was a kid a lot of people dismissed The Carpenters as lightweight schlock. NOT! The song and voice are obviously outstanding. But the horns and drums also kick butt. This song reminds me of an ex-girlfriend I really loved. She had the looks of a movie star with the magentism of a rock star. I miss her like crazy.

  • reminds me of Tommy Boy haha

  • There is something a little darker in this song than the rest of their work, I can almost feel pain. And yes, I am one of the minority of 16 year olds who love the Carpenters.

  • @WhiteRabbitMatt11 Leon Russell wrote this song. It was originally titled "Groupie". The original lyric was "sleep with you again". I think The Carpenters' record label pressured Karen to sing "be with you again". The Carpenters had a very clean cut image and the label didn't want it hurt with suggestive lyrics.

  • @Jefgg I can definitely see the groupie angle. "You said you'd be coming back this way"....sounds like a musician touring. Thanks for trivia.

  • @WhiteRabbitMatt11 A 16 yr old who likes real quality music ! suddenly there is hope, you are quite obviously an astute young man with a mind of your own, but have you the courage to reveal your likes to your contempories ?

  • @WhiteRabbitMatt11 You are correct my friend. This song and her expressive singing reach straight to the heart. She conveys that sense of sorrow so well in this song. This is a mark of a great singer. Karen was one the greats.

  • Music is like candy you throw away the rappers

  • @pandabear194 good one, can i use that someday.

  • :)

  • Karen's voice was a true gift to all of us, her voice will always be unique and uncomparable. Yes we were all truly blessed to have had Karen with us albeit for such a very, very brief moment in time. We Love you Karen, always xx

  • This song is the antithesis of the shitty ad I had to watch before viewing it. Modern artists should be judged by the vocals because today's scene is full of shallow wannabees, who need electronic voice correction for their live performances. I'm off to see Robin Gibb in a few hours at the Palladium - can't wait to hear some more real music!

  • One of greatest women that ever lived....and she didn't even know it ! So beautiful, feminine, sultry, lovely and the greatest voice.........ever !

    Love you Karen ! *Mel*

  • Jennifer Carpenter should play Karen Carpenter in a bio-film. I'd be in heaven.

  • this song is supertar....

  • So thankful to my dad for introducing me to the Carpenters at such a young age. I'm 31 now and this song is crazy nostalgic.

  • When I searched this song,,the first ones that came out were bullcrap!!

  • I think Karen Carpenter is AMAZING! So inspiring!!! I think if there is a heaven, Skeena59 she'd be singing there too :D xx

  • ... BACK WHEN YOU HAD TO HAVE TALENT TO BE A SUPER STAR!

  • @RicePudden how true karen was a lady at all times she did not have to take her clothes off or dress herself in meat to be hit

  • @RicePudden A BIG AMEN TO THAT.

  • Maybe the best voice ever.

  • @DonSulis No maybe. Best ever.

  • - This song sucks.

    - Talk about lame.

    - Totally.

    - You can change it if you want.

    - I don't care, it's up to you.

    - I can live with it if you can.

    - Suit yourself.

DON'T YOU REMEMBER YOU TOLD ME-

  • Thumbs up if you're thinking Tommy Boy

  • I wonder what is wrong with 15 people...

  • Saw this song on American Idol tonight.....gal did not do it justice. NO one can sing it like Karen Carpenter did.....the most pure voice that ever was.

  • @joannayork NO one on AI should attempt a Carpenter's song, they're bound to fall short.

  • @oneputtsteven Agreed. You just do not get that kind of sultry innocence that Karen C had back in the day.

  • @joannayork You'll like the ORIGINAL version of this song. In the search bar, type in "groupie superstar" and listen to the second song listed. It is the original by Delaney & Bonnie

  • I am in love with this song <3

  • ¡¡¡¡ por dios que voz impresinante !!!!!

  • Graet song

  • The legend songs....

  • the clarity of her voice is so singular, nobody else like her before or since

  • ima interupt her singing to say... this is one of the best melodies of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song. It never gets hold.

  • Fantastic song. Fantastic voice. No autotune, simple instruments. Geniuses!

  • This is not from 1985 it was made in 1971, karen died in 1983

  • @999MichaelMyers999 You are right! This is part of the Carpenters album, released in May 1971. Karen was 21. I miss her so much...

  • anyone got a time transporter? need desperately to get back to 1974 or so...help...

  • she was also bulimic and anorexic and i do still miss her voice wish she was still her

  • Demi Lovato ads in Carpenters channel? you gotta be kidding me youtube..

  • Most awesome voice ever. Please God, saves us from Justin Gaga and Lady Bieber

  • @mamade3970 God: You got it.

  • LMFAOOOOO i know. Bieber is so annoying. and Gaga is a great performer ,but her antics are getting old really quick its like enough now. Karen carpenter is so soulful its like her voice is the truth, and i just wish that we could take it back to great music like this song Superstar.

  • @mamade3970 I am really LOLing at this comment. The truth has been spoken here. =) And what is with the 16 dislikes on this too?

  • @zierkly Well as for those 16 guys who dislike The Carpenters, guess I must say 'vade retro Bieber and Gaga' instead of vade retro satanas. A good exorcism is needed to get Gaga and Bieber from those 16 guys' body.

  • @mamade3970 As time passes and music sinks further into talentless mediocrity this really does emphasise how lucky we were to have the Carpenters and what a voice Karen had, wonderful !

  • @mamade3970 Once again, a naiive "person" judges a talented artist by what the media shows him/her. Of course Justin Bieber is not a talented artist, he's just some spoilt brat who can sing the word "baby" 50 times and earn millions. However...Lady GaGa is a true talent- I honestly don't understand why people can't see past the veil of "weirdness" and see she CAN sing and for a good cause. Type in Lady GaGa Hair - Howard Stern to see how well she can sing, don't judge people before you know them

  • I came here from Nat King Cole.

  • I believe most of us feel her pain too, we have different stories but what we feel are alike, pain and hurt but we still have hopes

  • Pitch... Karen had it to spare.... Godspeed Angel..

  • poodtang1; I've battled depression for a number of years myself. Though I don't know you personally, I sincerely hope you seek the right kind of help and find peace as I finally have. The very best of luck to you.

  • I was brought here by Chris Farley in Tommy Boy

  • I am tired of people talking about her illness, why not celebrate her awesome voice.

  • Talented brothers it´s unfforggettable their songs

  • RIP Karen dear

  • What a shame that if Karen were 21 years old now and starting out in the music business - she'd be packed off to a discreet clinic for breast enhancement surgery, whilst a group of producers clobbered heavy beats all over the vocals she'd recorded for her debut record. If she'd had the self confidence to demure they'd say: Good luck on the cruise ship circuit, dear - and we'd never hear of her again. So depressing.

  • she had such a beautiful voice

  • Chris Farley and David Spade love this song!!!

  • pity all those good times and songs from the 70s are now gone ! now we are just heading into more awful times

  • @chklitttle with such aweful music of today. 70's is when people could write songs and sing and they meant something.

  • @chklitttle I fear we will never experience REAL music with all the crap that is out there today. Back in the day, there was talent and you could understand the words and the words had meaning.

  • I just love her voice!!!! This is REAL singing! Not a million runs and riffs.....

  • ステージで歌ってるようですが、伴奏も歌唱もCDと全く同じなので、どうなのでしょう

    曲そのものは、世界で最も美しいメロディーの1つだと思います。。。

  • Positively among the most exquisite voices in music, past, present or future.

  • Thank you for all of the good memories Karen

  • The wondeful Karen Carpenter, amazing X

  • Sad to think that Rihanna and Lady Gaga is what passes for music these days

  • @37revmo very sad

  • unbelievable voice...really really haunting....even in her "happy" songs , you can hear a deep sadness that comes from a very deep place....

  • Those of us who really know Luther copied this song from the Carpenters

  • Am I alone, or does anyone else who takes any amount of time to sample most of the music today in comparison with classic pop like this find themselves in a woeful abyss, saddened like some character in a Carpenter's song lyrics?

  • Goodnight sweet angel. Thank God for the gift to humanity that was Karen Carpenter.

  • @skeena59 I like to imagine that Karen's is the voice I'll hear in Heaven

  • @37revmo I asked God to tell Karen shes missed here and He said SHE KNOWS. So im sure you will get your wish.

  • @MasterAceman123456

God has had her long enough, put her back please.

  • im 12 and i listen to this instead of "new" music

  • I played their records constantly when I was young. Time's a gettin' by.

  • And to think,Gerard Way sings this beautiful song to his incredible wife Lindsey Way when she is sad :) this has to make her really happy....

    ....

Sorry if my English sucks ¬w¬....

  • I realize angels do exist and Karen Carpenter was absolutely one of them.

  • Her voice was unique - back then, and still today. RIP.

  • The best female singer.... EVER.

  • It's hard to try and listen to this with Justin Bieber looking straight at you.

  • We lost that talent and got stuck with the likes of lady gaga, christina alligator, b. spears, and the like?

  • A touch sad, but sums how I feel about him. I just want to be with him :(

  • Hermosa cancion de The Carpenters en la impecable voz de Karen !

  • this song brings me back the memories of my first love..we broke up in after i got back from my tour of duty..we were not the same ...but this song always reminds me of her..

  • I feel for her pain i also cope with a deep depression and suicidal thoughts almost daily.

I know what it's like to be at war with yourself.

  • @poodtang1 Ever find that by going back to this music, to some special safe corner of your past which the music evokes, you find security and safety? I do. I am bipolar and fight constantly just to live. "Music makes the Memories.".

  • @jeff62rey

For me music is food for the soul. It calms me down.

  • @poodtang1 Yes, but some times it is soothing to "share the pain" or as the wonderfull Elton John song says, to share the hurt we all know--bless you, hope you are okay

  • @poodtang1 i fight my battles daily,u always should win

  • @poodtang1 Sorry to hear that. really. I am with you. just cant admit it

  • @poodtang1 You might like any amy grant or barlow girl -one more round, I need you, or I believe, for more encouraging songs. We're all at war to one degree or another. Do you hate your family & friends more than life itself? My sister killed herself and it all but destroyed our family.

Any possibility for her joy is gone, she can't see my daughter grow up

What ever problems you may have are temporary, please don't choose a final tragic permanent act to address a momentary trouble..

  • @kingsxkids

I'm coping and muddling through somehow.

  • I love it

  • The only other person who could do this song justice is the late great Luther Vandross. Two great voices gone waaay too soon.

  • It's been rumored that this song was the reason Bette Midler gave Karen such a hard time early on in her comedy/performance career. Bette recorded it first, but our Karen had the monster hit and gave the world the definitive rendition. Godspeed K...

  • I styl i głos - niepowtarzalne.

  • So...I was only 13 years old...What more could be said but..." saudade "

  • I love Karen's voice. She died way before I was born but my mother played her music all the time. How I wish I could have seen Karen in concert. Truly the voice of an angel.

  • very very beautiful ....wow!!!

  • The last of the greatness of America. Karen, you left the mark of an angel on the world.

  • Karen looks really bad in the face...she tries to hide it with that ridiculous hair...RIchard and the rest of her management group should have done something...Kidnap her and force feed her with feeding tubes...This death did not have to happen...My little girl loves the Carpenter's as I did as a child....Such a great talent and Richard should have got off the dope and helped his..RIP Karen the world still loves you..

  • @1stSaintsFan Actually, this video is BEFORE she started getting sick. So, the hair wasn't styled to hide her face. She wasn't having problems with anorexia yet.

  • @madeyes4u I'm 53....Actually, I think you are wrong...I do not know the actual date of this video, "Superstar" was a hit single in 1971..The dieting began in 1967 when Karen's doctor put her on a water diet, bringing her weight down from 140 lbs to 120. When she had made it down to 115 lbs, people told her she looked good, but she could only reply that this was just the beginning of the weight loss, and that she wanted to lose still more. By the fall of 1975, Karen was down to 80 lbs.

  • @1stSaintsFan Your age really doesn't matter...With that said, her problem with anorexia didn't begin to show until 1974 and there are honest sources AND PICTURES out there that can confirm this. There's more to her story other than just anorexia, but really, I don't feel like talking about it anymore.

  • @madeyes4u . I was a Carpenter's fan when they first became stars..I was one of millions who bought the "Close to You" single in 1969. It was my first 45 rpm record and not my last vinyl. I scanned the TV guide to see if The Carpenter's were going to be on a variety show. They are part of my history and love of music. All of the fans at the time just thought Karen was illness prone. It was a tradgedy and she had anoxeria for many years prior to this video being shot, Peace Out.

  • @1stSaintsFan That's what it says on the Wikipedia article, but it leaves out that after Karen's five-week 1967 diet was over, she ate normally and was healthy. In 1973, she was "horrified" at the weight she'd gained after a TV appearance. In late 1974, people began noticing her strange eating habits, and in 1975, she was first hospitalized for anorexia.

  • @1stSaintsFan Her hairstyle was typical of that era...hot rollers to curl the bottom, long bangs, super-shiny "Breck" look.

  • @SisterRags I am a big Carpenter's fan...I am 53 and lived through that era...my sister was 8 yrs older and she was the protype BRECK GIRL...Karen's face looks sketal and she could be an extra in a Holocaust Movie...She just looks ill to me...and very unconfident in this Past snapshot..Her Anoxeria started in 1967 and continued until her unfortunate death...

  • @1stSaintsFan Hi, we're about the same age. I agree with you entirely...poor Karen was suffering with anorexia/mental health issues...that is so obvious in this video. I don't agree w/ people who say her anorexia started later on in her life. I should've been more clear: that typical-of-the-era hairstyle helped distract people from seeing the pain in her face and eyes. You know, the "shiny hair means good health" style of the times- obviously, so not true. But, my God, what a voice!

  • Our Karen...

  • no other voice like hers EVER! it will live on an on for many generations!

  • RIP my sweet....

  • PPaaul williams magnificent lyrics combined with Karen awesome vocals

  • Tommy Boy good times

  • @KerseyRedneck1822 yup :)

  • GREAT song !

    GREAT voice !

  • I so agree with u peraperu!!!

  • such a beautiful voice, almost makes me want to cry.

  • Like this song very much!!!! Karen's voice really soft. Love it!

  • One of the most beautiful songs of the Carpenters

  • Who are 10 assholes that dislike such a wonderful song?

  • Karen, I love you. From Brazil!

  • why the fuck would i wan vevo on my mobile?

  • Karen was only 21 when The Carpenters made this song. That's so scary to me!

  • @madeyes4u Best version ever sung but not written by the carpenters, they changed some words to tone it down a little as it is a groupies song. Karen made it her own......

  • @tNJippoes They re-wrote the entire song and changed 1 line from "And I can hardly wait to sleep with you again" to "And I can hardly wait to be with you again".

  • Man, fuck this noise underneath me, Tommy Boy brought me here!!

  • dont ask me how.. but juno brought me here..

  • What brought me here was the brilliant cover by Sonic Youth.

  • No matter how tough life can be, hearing Karen sing calms my heart....

  • @bidtimereturn7777 omg me too! Honestly, I'm happy to see somebody else feels the way I do. It's weird how very few musicians can do that for me. Karen is #1

  • @bidtimereturn7777 i a gree

  • it's so amazing voice

  • CARPENTERS LOVE.

  • no need to put the lyrics up - you can hear every word clear as crystal. just loved this woman, all the good ones go young.

  • What a sweet angelic voice. Karen's a natural. No autotune needed. RIP Karen.

  • Sweet and deep...like a feather on the eardrums

  • Chris Rene brought me here! <33

  • @monleo1705 Who the fuck is Chris Rene??

  • @RussX5Z

He sang a "rap version" of this song on The X-Factor about a month ago

  • @Purple1984Rain Oh my god. Everything is a rap song nowadays, and its even a crappy ridiculously mainstream style of rap (not real genuine rap like 80's 90's style) now I know why I despise today's rap and today's annoying pop music. Anyways thanks for the warning. I'm not going to hear that crap before I traumatize my ears. =)

  • OH yeah!

  • I loved this was on the X factor :)

  • Hauntingly beautiful ..

    RIP ..Karen

  • Chris Rene and X-Factor brought me here.

  • @korenogamer Same!!! :)

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Watched this video because it was on the soundtrack of Tommy Boy.

  • I Grew up to that beautiful voice of karens.Still miss her to this day

  • Why do they all leave us so soon :(

  • Dear God,

Please give us back Karen Carpenter and you can have Lady Gaga instead : )

  • @ZYRADIA

Lord, Lady Gaga plus all of Hollywood trash!! Is that a deal?

    God Bless Karen!

  • @diam2265

My 2 favourite female singers are Karen Carpenter and Dusty Springfield. Both of them could wring every drop of emotion from a song and just leave you wanting more. Both of them had battles, Karen with anorexia and Dusty with being gay (which would have done immense damage to her career in the 60's). Both so talented and sadly no longer with us. Those angels up there have some serious competition!

  • @ZYRADIA Triple like if that is even possible....thank you for saying what most of us are thinking! :)

  • ●CARPENTERS is loved, and when it is a child, it is heard from from every day!

    I like a "Superstar"! Beautiful Karen's Voice !!

Caren -- Be eternal! Forever !!!!
