  • i didnt know roby died yes i would say a good home coming awaited him i think about it all the time getting on the other side and having angels and all those who have gone on before us who knew Jesus here high fives cheering wow

  • wow!

  • First, to the two posters asking of the tuning, I think it's DADGAD - I don't hear the third being played. Second, I had never heard of this man until @10 minutes ago!,

when I was looking for a song - I heard it last night on the radio but never got an ID afterward, so I Googled what lyrics I remembered and found the title (He Shall Reign, which he wrote), then came here. Haven't found it yet, but I'm still looking. But I will be back here listening for more!!

  • @HeroicOaf To the poster who recently replied to this message, thanks for offering a chart. I purchased the download to 'Relaxed Fits', which included 'He Shall Reign'; I was able to learn it by ear, using standard tuning (actually, drop D tuning, capo 1), and was able to play and teach it in a couple of services.

  • Awesome man.

  • Does anyone know the tuning for this song?

  • does anyone know the tuning for this song?

  • this brother had a lot of SOUL! see you in heaven friend!

  • pure solid gold.

  • Simply amazing. Loved this.

Roby, I'll jam with you ANY time on the other side, just call when you're ready for me!

    ;)

  • What a performer!

  • We miss you Roby. Always thinking of you. <333

  • Roby is OK- good Musik Thanks ! k

  • No matter how many times I see this AND I WAS THERE, I never tire of it!!!

    GIVES ME CHILLS!!!

  • Wow, I didn't even know he went to be with the Lord! I guess our loss, is his gain =) The thing about death is that the process is horrable, but for those of us know Jesus, the end of the trip is glorious!

  • I was in the audience at this conference, humming right along with everyone else as Mr. Duke played and sang. The timing of this song was perfect as I was stuggling with a particular issue. God busted me in the face with His amazing Grace. I shed a few tears that evening and then again when I learned of Roby's passing. Thank you Roby Duke for being the God follower you were and doing His work.

  • He died of a car crash... right after his song I shall see God!!! It must have been his timing, but Roby Duke never had a guitar lesson also. He was a man of God and I should think that God will say "Good job my faithful servant"

  • he did not die in a car crash... he had a heart attack... congenital heart failure ran in his family...

  • @gaulstones01 He had a heart attack about 2 months after doing worship for us at Camp Bradley. That week we found out that he and Gayle Erwin went way back. Died the way his dad died (if not recollect correctly)...

  • He's so amazing! I first heard of him in Nov 2007 and I'm just finding out 5 minutes ago that he sadly died. What was the cause of his death? Such a sad loss to music once again.

  • Are there chords for this anywhere by chance? I really want to do this song for my chapel at school. If not chords, then a tab by chance? Thanks for any response!

  • Roby and I were at Delta State together in early 70s - not close, but I remember his music, have his earliest albums (vinyl!) - and only recently stumbled across his recent work. So sorry to hear that earth is without him now. See you there, Roby. Enjoy!

  • @Wopperwane5 I know it's been two yrs. since your post but even when a Christian looses a best friend it's a great lose. So sorry man. A friend of mine posted this on facebook and it's the first time hearing him. How did I miss him in the day?!? We'll all jam later "In His Time". The Lords Peace and Blessings to you Bro

  • Thank you roby We will miss you sooooooooooooooooooo much see you in heaven.

  • We just got back from the memorial service for Roby in Bellevue WA. It was a beautiful service that lifted up the Lord. We know Roby through the Crossroads Bible Church family. He and Anne graciously played in our wedding two summers ago. What a selfless thing to do not having known us very well. We will alway cherish that day and the light & love they both brought to it. Can't wait to worship the King of Kings alongside Roby someday. ~Joseph & Shaina Seidler--Bellevue WA.

  • I just left there 5 Mins ago...It was the most inspiring event in my lifetime...Roby was a "real" man for Jesus. Jesus, thanks for letting some of us share your "best friend" for awhile. --JW

  • AMEN and AMEN!!! I was there too and agree with you! I like that you turned the "best-friend" to Jesus'. Roby's life will be an ongoing *revelation* to those of us who are left behind. He had no pretenses! What an example he was ...I'm learning much from him! CB

  • Went to the service in Greenwood - Oh, Lord how sweet and sad the time. Preacher Joe opened up after a long minute composing himself with, "God broke the mold when He made Roby Duke". Tears of laughter, joy.

Seemed like there where thousands of R's friends there in spirit. If you ever doubted Jesus was alive you'd have known it was true after that service.

I'd love to hear from anybody who attended the Seattle memorial. Grace and Peace to all of you.

  • You will be missed! We will remember you through your many songs!

  • Roby, I don't know what to say. You made my life better. You inspired me to do greater things. I regret that I did not spend any time with you in the last several years. In many ways I feel like I let you down by not doing more with my music. I think about you often and listen to your music always. I will miss you dear friend. I am deeply deeply saddened by this news.

  • Love the Roby!! What a great performance.. and now he is in the Presence of the Almighty!

...and we celebrate your life dear brother!

  • I just read in the newspaper about Roby's passing and I was very saddened. I've known Roby and his family for virtually all of my life but haven't seen Roby since the mid 70's at Delta State University. I had just gotten re-aquainted with Roby by e-mail and phone recently and I will greatly miss him. Many Prayers to his family and friends from Lamar Benson, formerly of Webb, Ms. See ya', Roby......Hopefully!

  • Not just a gifted musician, but one of the most gifted thinkers I have ever spent time with. Composed and recorded our album project in 1999...Jock and I will be forever greatful. I love you Roby and will miss our times together. My heart is broken, but I look forwarded to "eats" with you again in the Kingdom. My prayers are with you Anne. Brantley...could we grab lunch some day? Michael. 2NU

  • I remember seeing Roby at Calvary Chapel in Philadelphia, PA. He's one awesome guitar player. Does anybody know how old he was when he passed away (due to a heart attack)?

  • Roby was 51

  • As Roby would say...

    Beautiful.

The Mississippi Mud side of him was his favorite. This video is how, I think, he would want to be remembered.

    Man, I miss him.

  • His heart just gave out. They found him in the foyer between his two doors. They said he did not fall as there were no bruises, scrapes or bumps so he apparently knew to lay down and as his song "I Shall See God" says, he went through that door where time is no more.

  • What happened to him?

  • what a voice...the world is a better place for your having been here...even if just for a lil while.............love gina

  • Thanks for the post. We were so sad to hear about Roby's passing. Our pastor, who is Roby's best friend, will be traveling to perform Roby's funeral this week so prayers for him & his family (the Focht family) along with prayers for the Duke family would be greatly appreciated. Praise the Lord we did have a last opportunity to hear Roby perform at our church just a few months ago. He was a kind and wonderful man who loved the Lord with all of his heart and he will be missed.

  • We'll miss you Roby. Thanks for all the joy you brought to us in Mississippi during the good ole days.

  • Wow, so good to hear him do this classic. I can't believe he's gone. I will always cherish the times we hungout together! I am sure he is in God's presence touching His face! I miss you Roby, Pete C

  • Thank you SO much for posting this!! I hadn't seen him perform in years and now he left us way too soon. Would love it if you had more Roby Duke to post.

  • The "blue eyed soul" now knows the mystery he so wonderfully pondered in word, music, and heart. What a gem Roby was. Thank you God for coloring my life through this gentle bear of a man if only for a short season.
