i can't understand why it was left to go to ruin like this--in the uk we'd have english heritage -a state funded council onto it straight away to preserve it--is there no such equivalent in canada. also who set fire to it-can they be named and shamed on here? and their photos posted.
this was my school for two years... as an International student from Venezuela, this is where my journey with English and Canadian culture began... I now remember my teachers and friends...
it was a beautiful school in 1976-77, I didn´t know that it was in such a state...and then the fire! I´m so sad...thanks for posting this vid.
This is awsome, I have tears streaming down my face, what a wonderful piece. For many this was our home, we grew up in this building, Ran laughing down the stairs only to be sent all the way back up, just so we could walk down like proper young ladies. Thank you. Is there a way to purchase this on dvd?
What a beautiful structure and memories of so many people that walked those halls. What a shame it was let go like this. I have no clue where this is but rest in ashes as it has gone back to the Lord.
The building is in St. Thomas, Ontario Canada. I was on vacation and saw it. It was a wonderful historic building! My friend (who lived up there) told me that it burned down about a year after I had seen it.
My mom went to Alma in the 1940's as a teenager. When she spoke of it, she spoke fondly of the beautiful staircase. It burned to the ground on her birthday a year after I found her. I cried the whole way thru the video.
It truly was a sad day for St Thomas. A sad day for myself as well. I love that building. It was like watching a loved one die in a horrific way. I feel so angry at this city for not protecting her. I feel even more angry at the owner for destroying something so beautiful and so loved. I hope that this city has learned to protect everything in st thomas that makes this place unique and great and beautiful.
Rod thank you so much for sharing this. I attended Alma 1980 and it was interesting and horrifying at the same time, to see how run down this grand old lady was allowed to get. RIP Dear old Alma
This song fits so well with the images!

@MrModerenwarfare2 Everything is fixable, burning does not rebuild our history.

its a shame to lose beautiful buildings like that but if people want to save them. It is up to the public to ralley to have them saved.
Eventually they become unsafe. the owner probably didnt want to be sued for a vandal falling through the floor or something.
