it kind of bothers me how he talks about bushido and how people should take responsibility but when lesnar is brought up he talks around it and justifies what he did.
I've been fighting amateur and professional for 10 years, and Erik Paulson is one of the guys I'd most like to have coaching me and in my corner, if I couldn't have the coach I do now.
It anoys me when guys start talking about the Bushido code as martial sport fighters regaurdless of promoting martial arts or not. These guys don't understand Japanese culture or the warriors code or they wouldn't be comparing it with MMA. Bushido isn't entirely respectable, especialy not in this era.
@Super8astard I agree to some extent. If you ever have the chance go train at a CSW Erik Paulson gym. The one I went to in Jacksonville Fl, taught a lot of history and I guess what you can call fighters etiquette. He actually teaches MMA for fighting but he normally pushes in a lot of culture too.
@trepidation11 I'm sure he runs a tight gym. I actually like those types of gyms because of the atmosphere and there tends to be less egotistical douchebag types. only exception is the 10th planet gyms people are really cool there too.
Bring Erik to the ufc!!!! if renzo and royce can still fight, so can erik! This guy is one of my inspirations to become better in the gym and outside as well.
I love paulson, think his techiques, are second to none, think that barnett is in top of heavies...but here comes the but, but fedor wil knock his ass out, dont let the loss to wedum fool you.
@bassreeves1965 I dont think he would lose or at least get knocked out. Fedor often finds himself at the mercy of grappling. Fedor tries so hard to just use his boxing mostly and sometimes kicks and will throw a guy down just try and hit hard and as much as he can. Erik has a great standing/striking game but he mostly uses grappling. He has a huge range of moves, assess the situation and makes plans. Both have a decent sense of timing and accuracy. Fedor will use strength more n Erik strategy mo
I had the honor of meeting Sensei Erik Paulson at one of his CSW seminars. A true class act and martial arts legend, and I have nothing but respect for the man!
I hope Brock Lesnar and Josh Barnett never get the chance to train together, so that someday they can maul on each other in the octagon/ring without holding anything back.
Great interview. Nice to hear Erik talk about his background. And I mean, Erik is Brock's trainer, he's not his dad. He can't be held responsible for everything Brock does. + if there is anything I hate about american MMA-fans, it's the God damn booing going on all the damn time, THAT is disrespect. If you boo a guy, just because he beats up the fighter you had put money on, then you're an idiot who deserves a big, fat long finger in your face.
softest interviews ever dude. erik goes on and on about fighters not having manners or a bushido code and how its the coaches fault, then you just ask his thoughts of the brock situation and don't hammer him at all for his hypocrisy when its so wide open. only other interview i've seen of yours was the prison fighter fraud and you didn't ask any legit questions to him either. why are you doing interviews if you are afraid of the subjects and wont ask anything "confrontational"?
all his fighters are very respectful including brock, he explained pretty well why brock flipped out and brock is only human and even explained if they were in there wouldn't have happened. He also said he didn't agree with what brock did but tried to explain why it happened and said it most likely would not happen again. Stop hating on brock he is a nice guy, and probably the best fighter on the planet right now.
lol a nice guy does not consistently act like an ass and then have to apologize for it. he behaves like a decent civilized human being to start with. brock might be the best fighter in the UFC, but isn't close to the best on the planet. that's TUF noob talk right there.
lol true Erik is most notable for training a career steroid abuser known for his consistently crabby and insulting attitude, and a dude who epitomizezs everything Erik claimed is wrong with current fighters, basically a walking roid rage. it's all those other coaches faults for not instilling respect and bushido in their fighters! but brock can flip off the fans cause they boo him, and i was kinda laughin hehe, dont question it fight nerd cause you're scared.
HA.. "scared" that's cute you little homo. I can't imagine you made it out of 5th grade because that rambling bullshit you threw together made ZERO sense.. get a life fag
are you so stupid you think i misspelt scared? scared means having fear. you're so stupid you think its spelled scarred and then flame me for it? priceless. my "rambling" made zero sense? i'm starting to think you barely speak english. i guess if all you ever read is beginner's children books it would be hard to understand, fag.
Wow... I mean fucking wow on just how fucking stupid you are. I'll try and explain real, real slow so you don't get confused. I put scared in quotes because I was putting emphasis on how stupid it was for you to claim I was scared. Not because you mis-spelled it you ignorant fagot. You even said "hehe" like the little cock sucking pussy you are.
@Nerstow Once again, your comment didn't make any sense and you're a fucking moron. It's hilarious you thought I was making fun of you bc you mispelled "scared" HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH....
guess you are unaware barnett is banned from the ufc so he's being a double agent for a fight that will never happen unless brock leaves or zuffa sales the ufc. conspiracy theories are fun though aren't they.
well Sambo largely came from Judo. as he said it was basically Judo with leglocks. anyways you are arguing you should only train a martial art in the country it originated in? i train bjj in America guess i'm an idiot by your standards! you can only learn it in brazil duh! and who would learn muay thai in holland? idiots!
why should need to put his arm on brock's shoulder to stop him? didn't he teach brock respect? apparently not. just like how he taught Barnett to respect the rules
By that I assume you mean the steroids. I have attended camps with Sensei Paulson for years. He always takes the time to talk about tradition, discipline, respect, and the values which he feels should be associated with real martial arts training. He is not required to do it. He just does. He has spoken out against steroids and illegal drug use. Does Barnett train under him? Yes. But Erik can't make Josh do the right thing. He can only do his best to set a good example. Which he does.
he was telling brock condition.. he is always respectful... and he wanted to stop brock from doing that.. he was not in favour of it...unlike those hypocrites who does not understand brocks condition on that fight...
you guys are being very naive here if you actually buy any of these stories. Brock and Mir were trying to hype the fight by following UFC's script. in reality both these guys are pretty decent. but when they sell out and act out such poor manners it reflects negatively on the sport.
Do you think someone like Couture or Fedor would sell out their sport and their integrity like this?
wanna a dumbass, 'id love to find an organisation that would do the fedor fight' YEH ONE THAT DOES NO DRUG TESTING! Josh is a cheat, he doesnt deserve to fight Fedor. Hes lost my respect.
He isn't technically banned, because he wasn't licensed and the test was for licensure he could theoretically reapply with any commission. It's his 3rd positive test so he would def. be under a ton of scrutiny. I would speculate that most athletes have atleast used peds at one point in their career wether it's hgh, steroids or even blood doping.
it kind of bothers me how he talks about bushido and how people should take responsibility but when lesnar is brought up he talks around it and justifies what he did.
