How come the American team didn't do the leap split at the end of their first tumbling passes and the other teams did? I don't get it. Somebody please inform me. Thanks! :-)
@DaTallOne25 i think it was probably just a misunderstanding in text. now days, compulsory routines arent always done EXACTLY the same among different teams but are, in the end, the same move. the US basically does a different 'kind' of split as other countries. other countries also probably recognize that showing full split their is a chance to show off their flexibility.
i luv this reoutine its beautiful i wish that there would be more routines like this in todays competitions, theyre mostly just the tumbling, i miss all the artisticness and dance, that to me was what made floor so great. XD
@showjumperluvr4 it was a compulsory routine (routines all the gymnasts had to do), meaning the tumbling was less difficult and there would be more dance. this was not a routine she or her coach chose
@LMA629 i kno i just wish that there was a little more dance in the routines now b/c even the routine that wasnt compulsory had more dancing elements :)
@showjumperluvr4 well they will now. the new code states that only 4 tumbling passes will count. (during the 2008 olympics, gymnasts tried to pack in 5 to get maximum starting value). tune in today to watch the gymnastics world championships! they start today and will continue all through the week, so we'll see how the new code works out.
@TheJordy456 These were the compulsories that used to be part of the Games. Every competitor had to do the same routine. They seem easy, but had certain elements that were being looked at closely by the judges. They've since cut compulsories from the Olympics.
Ok at point .45 wacth carfully at the gymnast in the backrpund. I swear she is doing the same dance moves as Shannon... I though it was a mirror at frist but it's not cause the girl started walking away after that! That's creepy! Haha just kinda glance back and fourh at both of them you'll see!
@volleyballgurly15 everyone had to do the same FX so very single gymnast in that arena knows the music inside out so it isn't that strange that the girl is doing the same moves. maybe she was waiting to do the compulsory FX next after the US and went thru it in her head while Shannon was up there...
chalkbucket, on your description you might want to put that this is her complusory floor routine, many people r getting confused and asking why she did a level 7 floor routine for an olympic routine
HAHA!! I didn't even think about that... I'm an elite level gymnast...I know what compulsories are...haha. I just didn't realize that they had to compete them back then... I stopped competing them...around maybe level 6 as a male gymnast... unless I was competing future stars...
I LOVE THIS ROUTINE its exicution was impecible, the dance was fluid and the tumbling was perfect. i loved it sooo much even tho there was only 3 passes of tumbling, i liked it betr!!!!
wow lmao i couldve done that when i was 8!!!!! i can't believe that was an olympic level routine, that's like compulsory for provincial level 1 (level 1 from a few years ago before the levels got all confusing in canada)
I don't understand why these people don't want to learn everything about a sport they love and or do... it's important to know the history... so frustrating!
I love how she's always moving. She doesn't stop between tumbling passes to prepare, she just goes for it. I wish they'd make gymnasts do it like that more, today.
@jonnyandjessiedorks it was a compulsory routine everyone in the arena did this routine it's just to show you can do basic skills everyone does the same tumbing and dance and the same for beam bars and vault everyone does the same they don't have it anymore though
Do you really not realize that this is the compulsory routine? All gymnasts had to perform this exact routine, apart from their optionals routine. Go look for her team optionals routine if you want to see the real deal. Geez.
Sacramones performance was terrible during the olympics and was the reason why Team USA lost. With that kind of performance and still made it to the national team, I wonder how many coaches did she have to sleep with in order to get the spot. Her ass is so fat, I think her ass is at least 20 pounds extra compared to her teammates. That was why she brought down Team USA. Stupid bitch should go to Jenny Craig. Alicia will go down as the worst, and most disgraceful gymnast in Olympic history.
Everybody is rating it five stars just because it's Shannon Miller.
Actually watch it guys! This is the compulsory routine, and all the other big names that year did a better job.
For the most beautiful and technically perfect performance watch Lilia Podkopayeva from Ukraine do it. She ended up winning the gold medal, so that should tell you something.
@SonyaNatalia Lilia had a beautiful compulsory set but she was overscored and shannon's dance flowed better as well, i love lilia she is absolutley amazing but shannon came out on top here
@moopoo66 LOL you are an idiot. This routine was good but Lilia had by the best compulsory floor routine which is why she got the highest score. If Lilia was on a strong team she probably would have scored a perfect 10 on compulsory floor. Miller even got outscored by Kerri Strug on her own team.
Her dance is gorgeous. I think this should have been the 2nd highest compulsory floor score of the Olympics behind only Lilia. Laughable that Strug with her shitty dance got a higher score.
I agree Kerri did a great floor. So did Shannon. Dawes and Moceanu were also pretty good, and Borden had an awesome compulsory floor and would have scored right up with Kerri and Shannon if she was a bigger name. U.S girls rocked floor!
I guess I just think this is a classic style routine with classical music and Kerri's dance and style wasnt so suited to that like Shannon's was. Still she did a very good routine I agree.
Damn that was an awesome routine, now I see why she is considered one of the best gymnast ever. Does anyone know what her score was after this routine, because if it was less then a 10 she got bamboozled.
9.787, don't forget in compulsories it's hard to get 10 as you have to be absolutely perfect as they are judging it against a set standard of requirements and against others. Simpler elements means you have to be able to do them to the letter.
As someone commented I hope that womens gymnastics will not become like mens or I will feel just plain horrified. I wish the had different scoring systems for mens and womens. Mens could have what they have now, and womens score out of the dance and another for execution of skills and the skills themselves. But lo that would be really tricky for people o know what was a good score and the organize.
I miss the Olympics when floor was more about the combination of music/dance/acrobatics and not so much a show of sheer athleticism. Thanks for the reminder.
She's one of my all time favorite gymnasts! I remember seeing her live in Charlotte in 1992 and it was one of the best nights of gymnastics I have ever seen.
Seriously... I read all these comments and I laugh. I just wish have the time some of you people wouldnt dare open your mouths.. or type anything. EVERY team did a compulsory routine... not just Shannon Miller. So if you're sitting home thinking "OMG I did that when I was five how come I wasn't on the team?" or "Everyone uses the same music!" then you need to just not breathe any longer..
That's funny that people don't know what compulsories are. I wish they never got rid of them. For me they were fun to watch. Shannon Miller did them so well.
@chalkbaby24 this was a compulsory routine that everyone in the hole arena was doing (besides the fans) but lilia shannon and a few others preformed this routine with such grace
It's a compulsory routine. That routine is not supposed to have that much tumbling. Look at her optional routine. Bet you can't do the stuff in her optional routine .

That was the compulsory routine. The compulsories were specifically designed with simple elements intended to be performed perfectly and to exact standards. If you watch the compulsory beam routine, the elements were basic but put together in a complicated way.
