a 45 lol thats not any better then the bottle rockets. just scaire the bear off if your lucky.
and you would never want to shoot the bear with a 45. it would tick it off and it would kill and eat you. there has been 1 man that killed a bear with a hand gun in self defense that lived. many have emptied there gun in the bear only to be killed and eaten by the bear. and yea some times the bear does die but only after it has killed the shooter. the guy that lived used a 454 with custom hot loads.
would not be any better then the bottle rocket seeing you would only use it to scare the bear off.
Never would you want to shoot a bear with a 45 would just tick it off. People have emptied there 44 mag in to them yes some have killed the bear but only after the bear killed them (many where found eaten on with an empty gun)
1 man has been recorded surviving killing a bear with a hand gun in self defense shooting custom Hot loads in a Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull
I think I would have carried a 45 out into that land.

Next time I go out to the backcountry definitly need a noise device. All the bear encounters I have never used bottle rockets. great idea !
