Gotta love the minimax. I'm running a 25dsp creamware/sonic core set-up and along with the profit 5 and vectron, the minimax makes makes all the steinberg and native instruments stuff sound lame. It's bang on and doesn't cost £4000 plus or need servicing. Although you play brilliant fella, this synth is more Dave gilmour than dick Dale. Give it a chance to make a sound so the good folks on the tube can hear it's abilities.
the minimax has 12-voice polyphony... I have both a model D minimoog and this... and trust me... this thing rocks... It does at close as it gets... though it could never be 100% the same, it does beat the crap out of any VST, softsynth version of the mini...
I have an M-Audio Keybord with arturia mini moog and arp 2600 emulations, but I guess you cant beat the Hardware and being able to play it like you can.
Lovely classic sounds you created in your vid , warms my heart.
@ozzymandi -Thanks again! One of the best thing is the fact it cost just a fraction of the price to the "big brother" minimoog mod D. I would say the emulation is 90% close to the original. You will not have tuning problems, its also polyphonic if you like(like a memorymoog). It also come with onboard effects like echoe, delay and chorus. In a mix, you will never be able to hear a difference if its a mod D or a Minimax imo.
Hi! For this demo you just use the controller midi out to the midi in of the Minimax, right? No computers at all? This is just any normal midi module triggered from a midi controller? Thanks!
Thanks alot for your advice, I've been searching price and commercials of this beast. Seems affortable and I can buy one. Have to find a dealer to order now, much difficult ^^
I haven't really embarked on my mission to learn the keys, i wonder if you could give me a few pointers on how to make those cool runs ? Say for example i label my fingers from thumb to pinky 1-5, what order would i play them ?
But the polyphony was kind of flakey, although I upgraded the firmware. I concluded that I could make better or at least as good P5-emulation with my Nordmodular. ;)
I own one of these and I have to say that it sounds pretty damn close to a model D,it's not quite 100% on the money but try and find something else that sound closer...I bet you wont!
Regardless of how close it does or doesn't sound to a model D your getting a kick ass synth!
Great playing. This is the first I've heard or seen of this unit. It's very Moogy and has a Prophet-ee vibe as well. Now I've got to hear this in person. =)
I had one and sold it-Its was a good sounding synth but I felt it had a sort of digital sheen over the sound and when I compared it to a real moog there was no contest.Good synth though in its own right.
I think this gets closer to the original Minimoog than the voyager, the only thing witch separates the Minimax from being exactly like the original is that since it's digital it isn't doesn't glitch, and isn't out of control like the original, great vid thx! ;D
That's because Voyager wasn't not designed to be Model D clone - this one was! But I'm still not convinced.
I just don't understand why people keep making most silly comparisons. If you really want pure MiniMoog D - then just go and buy it, they pop up now and then at second hand sites.
Buying Voyager to get MiniD doesn't make any sense lol!
Too polite to be exactly the real deal, too clean, too perfect, not nearly the ATTITUDE of the real thing. The difference is that i grew up listening to the real thing, i know exactly what it is. This thing's close in some repsects and is great value but then again so is my CZ0101 with some good programming.
It sounds good but none of these emulations sound exactly like the original. Whether that matters is personal taste. These things don't have the balls of the originals they emulate due to the digital nature so they sound very similar but still a little plastic.
No problem, i felt i had to comment, as ive had a model d since the late 90's, the two synths have slight differences, but then again two model d's sound different to each other. On the whole they are no different in sound, and especially in a mix where its impossible to hear the difference, i have their pro-12 prophet 5 aswell and that is just like my rev 3, possibly the best VA's ever made, just want them to make a JP8 now :)
Me too. Sonic Core claims it has 12 voices, but I obtain just 7-8 voices on the maximum(depend what kind of sound). However, I dont miss the 12 voices and 6 is more than enough for me since I like its classic monosound better, but thats me...
I don't believe that is made clear on Creamware's official website, but maybe I didn't read it properly; thanks for answering my question; I guess two minimax modules would be powerful indeed! I find the GUIs of most softsynths too small and I am looking for the physicality of a 'real' interface, which does not demand too much space.
Well, I own a Minimax, and I played a little Phatty today for the first TIme. The Minimax kicks it's ass sonically. not even close. And the Minimax is also polyphonic and has alot more tactile playability. I have squeezed out some really priceless patches from the minimax. I also own a bunch of vintage synths and a Virus and a Nord modular. The Minimax is the real deal
i don't like it when people say "it sounds great and analog, but unfortunately it is digital." surely only the sound matters, and im sure it wouldnt feel different.
Beautiful Baroque playing. obviously a very well trained pianist. With that acalade out of the way. I also have aMinimax. I didn't really like it when i first purchased it, it took awhile to discover what it has to offer, and it offers a lot. The first thing you have to do is stop hoping it's a real minimoog. it's similar, but not the same. i I were asked to shoose between a real mini and the minimax, i'd pick the minimax immediately.
I sounds like they improved it, but according to the Keyboard Magazine review of this, the portamento is awful on this. It sounds fine in your demo though.

Besides Minimax you have the Arturia and Minimonstra softwaresynths wich are also very good emulators of Moog.

They are a bit stiff and plastic, but you get used to them.

No, unfortunatly not.
