  • I meant GOOD comparison. Yes, we're only human.

  • Great vid. I especially liked your Carlos-like playing skills starting at 1:07, but it's "inveNTion," not "inveRSion." God comparison.

  • @hindsighter Thanks for your comment. You are right about the Invention and I have changed the text now!

  • ANALOG

  • Cool, I love to see and hear a great keyboardplayer

  • @LKJDFDG -Thats nice, thanks!

  • Gotta love the minimax. I'm running a 25dsp creamware/sonic core set-up and along with the profit 5 and vectron, the minimax makes makes all the steinberg and native instruments stuff sound lame. It's bang on and doesn't cost £4000 plus or need servicing. Although you play brilliant fella, this synth is more Dave gilmour than dick Dale. Give it a chance to make a sound so the good folks on the tube can hear it's abilities.

  • heard this brand got discontinued, sucks.

  • @MrEvanbooker-Yes I,m sorry for this. Also I,m glad and proud to be a lucky owner of this fantastic moog emulator!

I hope they will be back in business soon.

  • the minimax has 12-voice polyphony... I have both a model D minimoog and this... and trust me... this thing rocks... It does at close as it gets... though it could never be 100% the same, it does beat the crap out of any VST, softsynth version of the mini...

  • @sergioajaimes-What you say is right!

  • Dude-Your awesome.Great vid and you can play really well.

  • @forgottencinema -Thank you very much!!

  • fantastic

  • fantasric

  • Beautiful instrument - and many thanks for the GREAT demo!

This is the way how all synth demos in YouTube should be! Actual playing, not sequencing/noisemaking!

  • @drkam6 Thanks, I,m glad you liked it!

  • Sounds great man! Like alot of the old albums I grew up enjoying. I'm convinced.

  • @peterkadar -Thanks! The Minimax is great and sound very close to the vintage Moog.

  • two voice? great

  • @gianfuzzi -Thanks! I think the minimax have up to 12 voices!

  • I have an M-Audio Keybord with arturia mini moog and arp 2600 emulations, but I guess you cant beat the Hardware and being able to play it like you can.

Lovely classic sounds you created in your vid , warms my heart.

  • @ozzymandi -Thank you very much for your kind comment(warms my heart!)

  • @fystasjoppheng

You are most welcome my friend

    Thank you!

  • Lovely bass sounds and fruity delicious tones I would love one of these synths .

Please post more of your playing.

  • @ozzymandi -Thanks again! One of the best thing is the fact it cost just a fraction of the price to the "big brother" minimoog mod D. I would say the emulation is 90% close to the original. You will not have tuning problems, its also polyphonic if you like(like a memorymoog). It also come with onboard effects like echoe, delay and chorus. In a mix, you will never be able to hear a difference if its a mod D or a Minimax imo.

  • Great sounds and really nice playing.

    Thank you!

  • @ozzymandi -Thank you William! I owned it over 2 years and I still love this instrument!

  • Originale l'invention!

  • @yotoul -Its a fantastic machine!

  • do you need a computer to get the sounds?

  • @pomfrit93 -No it can be run as a standalone synth. I have never used a pc with this Minimax.

  • 3:35 belongs on Gran Turismo.

  • Cool synth, and great playing!

  • Marvelous performance, and you're getting me interested to buy a Minimax!

  • Gooood!

  • Congratulations! Great sound, great performace!!!

  • @ccnh10

    Thank you very much!

I still love this moog-emulator and use it very often.

  • amazing! :D

  • Excellent, precious sounds of the module. And your execution is´perfect.

I love vintage sound and Bach.

    Congratulations!!

  • Thanks!!

  • how much does a set up like this cost$

  • A new Minimax(from sonic core) is set to 1.290EUR.

    A midicontroller is about 100-150EUR.

  • @fystasjoppheng Do you know if the Plugiator sounds exactly the same? thanks

  • @maccagrabme -Yes I think so.

  • Hi! For this demo you just use the controller midi out to the midi in of the Minimax, right? No computers at all? This is just any normal midi module triggered from a midi controller? Thanks!

  • You are right, no computers are used here, just midi. You can use the Minimax as a standalone synthesizer.

  • hey guys, quick question I got - do the knobs of the minimax send midi cc??

  • very nice demo. this is indeed a superb modulation of the legendary minimoog!

excellent playing by the way, you clearly not a beginner :-)

  • emulation

  • Incredible playing, incredible sound. Nice job.

  • Thank you very much!

  • Yes, demo is very good, I wonder if this tiny box could be a good solution to catch big oldschool mono sounds, used Moogs are out of price O_O

  • Thank you !

Besides Minimax you have the Arturia and Minimonstra softwaresynths wich are also very good emulators of Moog.

I think you will be very pleased with a Minimax because it sounds like a minimoog + you can turn the knobs like a real hardware synth.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks alot for your advice, I've been searching price and commercials of this beast. Seems affortable and I can buy one. Have to find a dealer to order now, much difficult ^^

  • what kind of controller is that fystasjoppheng? or, more importantly, how are the keys? your opinion?

  • Hi!

Its a cheap midicontroller from M-Audio.

Imo the keys are ok for this price.

They are a bit stiff and plastic, but you get used to them.

  • Excellent and trustworthy demos of just about every synth I'm researching for purchase. Thank you very much for your time.

  • The Bach parts are great, not many like this on youtube, enjoyed very much

  • Thank you!

I think Bach sounds great on synthesizers.

You should check out my minimoog Voyager videos 1 and 2 for more Bach/on synth.

  • Dam my man, you can play keys.

  • I do my best;. Thx!

  • I haven't really embarked on my mission to learn the keys, i wonder if you could give me a few pointers on how to make those cool runs ? Say for example i label my fingers from thumb to pinky 1-5, what order would i play them ?

I would be most greatful ! Cheers.

  • Say what keyboard controller is that?

  • M-Audio midicontroller

  • Really great demo.

I used to own the Creamware Pro-12 but sold it since I didn't consider it really up to the task of emulating the Prophet-5.

The MiniMax however sounds really good in monophonic mode.

    /Le Singe Monotone

  • Thanks!

I think the MiniMax is very good value for the money. Its a good thing to be able to turn those knobs and shape the sound directly.

Did you have the opportunity to compare the Pro 12 direct to the Prophet 5?

  • No, unfortunatly not.

But the polyphony was kind of flakey, although I upgraded the firmware. I concluded that I could make better or at least as good P5-emulation with my Nordmodular. ;)

  • Wonderful Demo, thanks. And please let me know which piece of Bach it is you play first in your video.

  • Thx!

Its Inversion nr 4 in dminor.

  • I own one of these and I have to say that it sounds pretty damn close to a model D,it's not quite 100% on the money but try and find something else that sound closer...I bet you wont!

Regardless of how close it does or doesn't sound to a model D your getting a kick ass synth!

  • Reminds me of Kraftwerk :p

  • excellent.. ill get 1 asap..

    cheers!

  • Good demo man !! First time i have seen this synth. Its a damn good sound indeed. Nice one.

  • Thank you! I love the sound of this synthesizer too.

  • Great playing. This is the first I've heard or seen of this unit. It's very Moogy and has a Prophet-ee vibe as well. Now I've got to hear this in person. =)

  • I had one and sold it-Its was a good sounding synth but I felt it had a sort of digital sheen over the sound and when I compared it to a real moog there was no contest.Good synth though in its own right.

  • I think this gets closer to the original Minimoog than the voyager, the only thing witch separates the Minimax from being exactly like the original is that since it's digital it isn't doesn't glitch, and isn't out of control like the original, great vid thx! ;D

  • That's because Voyager wasn't not designed to be Model D clone - this one was! But I'm still not convinced.

I just don't understand why people keep making most silly comparisons. If you really want pure MiniMoog D - then just go and buy it, they pop up now and then at second hand sites.

Buying Voyager to get MiniD doesn't make any sense lol!

  • great, thx. played very nice as well.

  • Too polite to be exactly the real deal, too clean, too perfect, not nearly the ATTITUDE of the real thing. The difference is that i grew up listening to the real thing, i know exactly what it is. This thing's close in some repsects and is great value but then again so is my CZ0101 with some good programming.

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds good but none of these emulations sound exactly like the original. Whether that matters is personal taste. These things don't have the balls of the originals they emulate due to the digital nature so they sound very similar but still a little plastic.

  • Have you heard/tried the minimax?

Its very close to the orginal. It have "balls" as well,so its very powerful. There are many emulations, but nothing like this.

  • Ive got one of these babies, and anyone who says it doesnt sound like a REAL model D needs their ears checking.

Ive had both for a few years, and they are pretty much indistinguishable from one another.

No Aliasing and that bottom is most certainly there.

  • Thanks for your comment. Its interesting to hear you had the model d next to the minimax. I,m very happy with this synth.

  • I have been wondering how the pro 12 sound compared to the prophet 5.

You have the rev 3-is the pro 12 just like the p5?

  • you're a great keyboard-player

  • Thank you!

  • Yeah.

Love the entire process between 3:02-3:29

  • this question might sound dumb but does it have a midi input ?

  • Yes it has midi in and out.

  • i thought it has 12 voices?

  • Me too. Sonic Core claims it has 12 voices, but I obtain just 7-8 voices on the maximum(depend what kind of sound). However, I dont miss the 12 voices and 6 is more than enough for me since I like its classic monosound better, but thats me...

  • aha, I see.

By the way, nice playing, fast one hand technique.

  • That was great fun, Kjell! I love how the electronics interpret Bach. Thanks a lot! Love to hear some more of your classical interpretations.

    :)

  • I meant good! so your ok dude.

I got a Studio Electronics SE1 but don't sound as good as that or my old Mini.

I was wondering if you know the 80' synth duo the System?

Just wanna know for my son how Dave Frank got his Mini to sound so fat and tight?

Keep posting I learned a lot from you.

    Many Thanks

  • Dude thanks for posting, your playing is bad ass!

  • two of these vs. the system 1200 or two of these as well as the system 1200??

  • The system 1200 is a minimax and a pro 12, not two minimax.

I would like to have them seperat.

    (does this answer your question?)

  • I don't believe that is made clear on Creamware's official website, but maybe I didn't read it properly; thanks for answering my question; I guess two minimax modules would be powerful indeed! I find the GUIs of most softsynths too small and I am looking for the physicality of a 'real' interface, which does not demand too much space.

  • Creamware is now Sonic Core..

  • ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the video! helpful

  • Its a pleasure if it helped you.

  • Well, I own a Minimax, and I played a little Phatty today for the first TIme. The Minimax kicks it's ass sonically. not even close. And the Minimax is also polyphonic and has alot more tactile playability. I have squeezed out some really priceless patches from the minimax. I also own a bunch of vintage synths and a Virus and a Nord modular. The Minimax is the real deal

  • Yes its a stunning synth. It almost nail the real thing.

  • i don't like it when people say "it sounds great and analog, but unfortunately it is digital." surely only the sound matters, and im sure it wouldnt feel different.

  • your playing is brilliant :D

love the sounds, getting me one me thinks :)

  • Shit this is hot !

    I love your video

What the chord progression at 3min30 ?

    God bless bob moog !

Sorry for my bad english i'm french !

  • great demo, nicely shows of the wide variety of sounds this module is capable of.

  • Beautiful Baroque playing. obviously a very well trained pianist. With that acalade out of the way. I also have aMinimax. I didn't really like it when i first purchased it, it took awhile to discover what it has to offer, and it offers a lot. The first thing you have to do is stop hoping it's a real minimoog. it's similar, but not the same. i I were asked to shoose between a real mini and the minimax, i'd pick the minimax immediately.

  • I sounds like they improved it, but according to the Keyboard Magazine review of this, the portamento is awful on this. It sounds fine in your demo though.

  • I think the glideproblems was the earlier models. This one is with the upgraded firmware and I,m very pleased with the glide and everything else on this

    synth-so far.

  • Ah, and now the big question: how much is it in US dollars?

  • I just love those bach parts :P and I love the minimax... hoping to get one! :D

  • nice playing

  • Thanks to this video I think that in the next future I will buy one of it! Great demo!!

  • Thanks Daniel, I,m shure you will be as happy as me with the minimax ASB!

  • You did lot better make demo of Minimax(iv tried to,cause not many demos of it are here)and thanks for yor kind comment on my "Quasarlight" song,i tried many times upload it in stereo,so i lost your comment,YT did go back to mono mode.

I like the Minimax a lot,its a very powerful and versatile emulation of his famous "daddy" ;-)

    Greetings:Alnitak

  • ottimo!!!

  • I,m not shure what "ottimo" means, but thanks!

  • i suoni sono moto belli!!!

  • Thank you 4LFO!

Especially for this price I think you get a lot of nice sounds.

  • Very good demonstration of an amazing sounding synth.
