  • OMG if u watch watch after he gets speared and bleeding he cant even move his hind legs propely he was stopping and also tripping a lot i bet his rider was heart broken brilliant rider for pulling him up so qwickly some riders wouldnt even of noticed and pushed him but bless the horse he wanted to keep goin the rider had to tug hard for the horse to stop the horse ovbisly ejoyed his work a even in pain he wanted to keep goin i no its a lot of writing but just sayin how much i feel for the rider.

  • People let the horses do these extrem sports and then they wonder, why the horse became crippled or die. Nobody can ask the horses if they want to do this, so we`ll never know if a horse likes it or not...

  • You could see from his body language that he adored what he did, and loved every second of it right up until the last.

What a beautiful horse, and what a terrible, terrible oversight.

  • this absoutely broke my heart to watch this :(

  • I cried so hard, watching this video.

  • It is such a shame. I really feel for the rider, owner and trainers, but at least, they changed the flags, so something like this could never happen again. We owed that to this amazing horse and his terrible accident. :'(

  • omg, I got tears in my eyes from seeing this, this is awfull!!! It's really sad for the horse and rider. And think about al the training that went into this horse and than the horse get's killed but something stupid like a flagpole....

  • That was a so beautifull and good horse.... That's so sad what happened to him... :'(

  • RIP Icare was an AMAZIN horse :(

  • Beautiful horse and lovely rider .Good idea to make a video to raise awareness to riders.

  • Wow... what a beautiful horse..

    So sad:(

  • great job, this video really shows how hard horses and riders train.

r.i.p. to such a beautiful horse.

  • God, what a bizarre accident...Poor horse, he wanted to keep going

  • Icare d'Auzay- a horse that truly loved his job.

See how he kept on galloping his heart out after the jump, and only really pulled up when his rider asked him to.

    RIP.

  • that was a lovely tribute to a fab horse rip

  • Omg :( That's sooo sad. Atless we know he is in a better place and is no longer suffering <3 R.I.P;

  • this really discusts me :/ poor thing. what a horrible way to die. Lovely rider you can see him desperatly trying to stop, but icare just wants to keep going bless him x

  • omg i guess i commented to this video a thousand times .... this horse was so amazing and such a great example for an eventhorse.... people who say that eventing on this level is cruel and that horses CAN'T actually love it are proofed wrong in this video ,this horse loved so much what he was doing ,eventhough injured he still wanted to go on and his rider could hardly stop him.... i wonder why always the awesome horses have to die...it's not fair

  • @rikeL1607 I agree with you, he really absolutely loved his work, it's such a shame that this had to happen, but at least they did listen and the flags were changed :)

  • @piratesmith at least one good thing....

  • gorgeous horse rip,xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Oh no, this is soo sad!! What an incredible horse. RIP

  • i saw every bit of it. it was so sad. my mum grabbed blankets and stuff and helped the vet to try and stop the bleeding. :(

  • @kafrin181995 what do you mean? u were at the scean when it happend?

  • @modelhorsecollector1 Yes, it was horrendous, my mum actually stepped in and helped stem the bleeding with her denim jacket!

  • i still cant watch this vid without wanting to pause it like it never happened :(

he looks so much like my girl

    RIP Icare & Skwal beautiful boys - almost 3 years :( x x

  • @rachelha I know :( I can't believe its been 3 years, amazing horses who deserve to always be remembered. And Ria really does look like him, I'm sure she'll become just as brave as he was too x

  • Magnifique cheval, magnifique couple..

  • Oh aw waa he didnt stop even though he was in pain. loyal horse

  • Even after injury this horse was pricking its ears and wanting to continue despite the pain. What a loyal servant he was, one we would all be proud of. His injuries, unfortunately were extensive, and as we saw from the video, included significant arterial damage. He has paid a high, and undeserved, price to increase the safety of this magnificant athletes. May there be many more like him....

  • wow...

the connection between horse and rider here is truly amazing. the music suited really well, i had goosebumps all the way through.

    i cried.

  • u can tell this horse really loved what he was doing just by how well he moved and responded to his rider.

  • i dont see where he fell and why and how to be put down

  • He didn't fall. He hit a flag which snapped and pierced him around his stifle area. He had to be put down because he was suffering a great deal and couldn't be saved

  • @threedayeventer1 yeah and he lost alot of blood

  • I was there that day right near vicarage V and it is something I will never forget. I cried then and I cried again at your video. Wonderful horse, just wonderful.

  • I wish the jumps wernt so big in cross country and show jumping. Many accidents such as this and horses falling wouldnt happen if the jumps wernt so high.

  • Vicarage Vee is a dangerous fence, I believe it claimed the life of one of Karen O'Connors horses back in 92..(i think he was put down after breaking his neck in a fall at that fence)

  • OMG! that is horrible :((

So what happened ? awwh cause I saw he hit the pole omg it should have been a flexable one! :(

    Poor Horse. RIP beautiful <3

  • It's all in the description box but to save you from reading all my rambles! He misjudged the fence, hit the flag which was wooden, snapped and speared him near his stifle, he was treated with the very best medical care but sadly couldn't be saved. As a result of this accident, most large venues have now switched to flexible flags so this will never happen again - I made this before they had decided to do that - thank you for watching x

  • The ignorance of some ppl on here amaze me. Yes eventing is dangerous, and has statistics like ppl have been saying. Look at my name, i AM an event rider I AM proud to be one, and even tho im low leveled(BN) my five year old LOVES his job. MISTAKES CAN and WILL happen in Eventing, just like in another other sport out there. The flags used to be plastic (like the horse got stabbed with) now theres MUCH MORE SAFETY with the fences AND flags.

  • @3dayEventerFHMI well said :)

  • i very much agree with you about people ignorance and all what you said. I No a a top class event rider were i keep my horses and she loves her horses to bits . And when i watch her horses to these top cross country courses you can see by the horses body language that he loves it. He has off days and decides to duck out of jumps but hey they are not robots and if they dont want to jump they wont. Very sad what happend indeed . what a fantastic horse may he rest in peace.

  • such a great horse!! it's always heartbreaking when this kind of thing happens ='[

  • qu'est il arriver ???

  • I was there when i happened :'(

  • fabuloso muy buen caballo!!! yo corro en endurance y esto es muy bueno!!

  • it's no wonder people were commenting how people were walking away covered in blood, 4:54 and on you can actually see him dripping blood, wow. (stomach/stifle area) I never noticed this before in this video.

But thank you Pirate, truely great tribute to an amazing XC horse. He really loved his job, and after the accident wanted to keep going.

  • Yep it was al very ad, he's still very much missed - which is what I love most about this video, the fact that it's still so active is lovely to me :)

Thank you so much, it's the least I could do. He really was a true sports horse

  • i get it now

tht must hav been sooo sad :(

  • i dont get wat happened

  • Read the vid description --> :)

  • that is terrible, made me think.

    R.I.P precious man

  • It does, I watch this vid a fair bit, and it always makes me think

  • RIP LOVELY

  • He is in horsie heavean, eating apples and jumping

  • i was there, my mum helped and my jacket was used to try and stp the bleeding xxx rip

  • god thats terrible and after it happend it looked he still wanted to keep goin gosh, RIP

  • Alles nur dreckwichser

    man müsste die leutz erschiessen

  • It really was sad. I was there and watched this in real life. It was terrible. there was a huge amount of blood. I had this awful feeling from the second it happened, that he wouldn't make it. R.I.P

  • Désolé pour vous , C`est tres triste . Magnifique cheval ! Qu`il repose en paix

  • dsl pour vous je suis aussi triste il ete super beau

  • I had never heard of this horse before i watched this but he looked like an absolutly awesome xc horse! the kind where you come home smiling. a really terrible accident.

HackamoreTV have another look at the vid when he was cantering after the jump he was barely putting his off hind on the ground.

  • It didn't seem like he was in pain, he was cantering fine after he hit it.

I hope he wasn't in pain.

  • If i was his rider and/or owner i would completely hate whoever invented that dumb jump!

Or whoever decided to use stiff flags, dumb, careless people!

  • is there any way that u can actually see where the broken flag went in. my friend is studying this at her school and she has asked me to find out if there is anything on youtube or on google or anything. i dnt want to see it but i would like to pass on the links if people have them. he will be sadly missed he was an ispiration. rest in peace boy

  • basically he was staked by one of the flags :(

i was also there that day, very sad :( i remember watching the tents go up, and everyone just gawping, :( i woman came back from the tent to the food bit covered in horse blood, asking for a bucket of water to clean herself with, bit of a shocker... not a pleasant experience bless him :(

    RIP lil man

    xx

  • as was i sooo sad poor thing :( hope these new flags stop this happening again R.I.P

  • I don't understand what happened to him!

  • i have watched this video many times since 2007! but every time i watch it i cry!

    RIP!

  • omg...I feel so sad for this horse. Ears forward the whole time totally enjoying his job. And when he gets stopped he is like. "Hey, we're not done!" Makes the video even sadder....great work.

  • Thanks, and yeah I agree, I think thats the saddest thing about it all, he just wanted to keep going

  • What a beautiful horse

its such a shame things like this happen

I was at badminton the year this happened and i heard some people talking about it and i was nearly crying

    R.I.P Icare D'Auzay

    :(

    x

  • i was there to, saw it happen. the atmosphere was terrible

  • that was so horrible

  • that was so horrible, i was there and i waited there when they put the tent around it, it was horrible no one was speaking it was all silent and loads of people from the audience went ot help and they all came back covered in blood such a sad day (i think it was jump number 13)

then the next rider to ride the course, on that jumphe got chased by a dog lol

  • i waited there too. although it was horrible everyone stayed and watched. it was like we were glued there. R.I.P

  • TWAT the guy should give the horse a breake fucking retard

  • thanks:)

    RIP

  • A truely amazing horse!

I still have nightmares about it, i was right there shouting at him to stop.

    R.I.P

  • same, i will never forget that day

    R.I.P

  • From reading the first page of comments..some of you ppl. have NO common sense. like Pirate said, if they dont love the job, you wont get out of the start box!!! and if you do, you'll be eliminated b/c of the many refusals you've gotten, or b/c you've fallen off b/c the horse over jumps all the jumps b/c its scared!!!

Its just that plain and simple... eventing is dangerous, but isnt all equestrian sports dangerous?? last time i checked they were. Un-predictable things happen... end of story!

  • Very very well said, thank you.

  • Yes, unpredictable things happen, but when you have jumps that do NOT fall worse things will happen. As I said, a horse will generally do what you ask (you can always train them to do what you ask) and if you ask for something dangerous, they'll do their best to give it to you. Like, if you put a 4 yr old at the top of a hill in San Francisco on a tricycle...looks like fun, sure I'll ride it down! Not a good idea...

  • egasser, no one is listening. Apparently, these people would prefer to believe that because a horse is doing what we ask them to do, they LOVE it. They LOVE doing what we ask, is more like it. You can't tell a person who compares turning your horse out with eventing ANYTHING. That goes beyond ridiculous.

  • That's really untrue. If a horse does not enjoy what it is doing - it won't do it! Ever been on a horse who doesn't want to walk past something thats spooky? If that horse doesn't trust you no amount of trying will get that horse past it - simple. My point is a horse CAN and does get injured in the field, it CAN and does get injured eventing. Trust me - the statistics are not THAT high with 3DE. You'd have to be stupid to not see how much Icare LOVED that sport. Comment on something worthwhile.

  • does anybody know if he was a stallion and if there is frozen semen for him? He was so beautiful..... his talent should be carried on with his offspring... RIP Beautiful Boy... so sad...

  • I'm pretty sure he was a gelding

  • good morning are what about one know the name of the song?? thank you in advance

bonjour es ce que quelque un sais le nom de la chanson ??

    merci d'avance

  • The song is 'Im lost without you' by Blink 182 . Hope that helps

  • ok, 1st; i'm fucking crying!,

    and amazing video.. just.. amazing..!

    terrible accident..

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.

Icare d'Auzay was an incredible horse

  • This is very sad! I'm glad this was on here. It really helps people learn from their mistakes! Such as flexible pole! This is tragic but the horse died happy...doing what it loved!

  • Thank you!

  • Comment removed

  • wow okay some of you people are just RETARDED. this horse was amazing and DID love what he did. people get hurt, or even killed doing what they love for all sports, not just eventing! people say it's "cruel" for the horses, its no different than people playing lacrosse, football, or hockey! horses love what they do, and a horse that didnt love it wouldnt be at badminton. so everyone stfu and honor a magnificent horse!

  • Thank you LOV3xHORSES and EventingWithMe - well said.

  • such a shame he died like this :/ this isnt the place to be arguin over eventin!.

    RIP

    x

  • Thank you, that's what I've been trying to say too.

    Thank you for watching

  • MEMORIAL MEMORIAL MEMORIAL .... OK we got it .... you sound like these people and their lady Diana memorial on and on and on about their pathetic hysteria . The point is , yes a horse died, dON'T YOU i AM UPSET ABOUT THAT ... CAN I ASK YOU WHY ???? because of that stupid sport which is called eventing ; THAT IS WHY ; you obviously know so little about horses and their training and psychologie , How disrespectful to the horses and yourself as you are making an ass of yourself. SHUT UP AND LISTEN

  • I'm going to uni and studying Equine Behaviour and Training. So you don't think horses are killed out in their field? Teddy O Conner - was not killed eventing. I'm not the one making an 'ass' of myself. Take a look back through all these comments. You've come onto a strangers dedication video and insulted so many people. YOUR opinion is that eventing is cruel, so don't bother coming on videos that you don't agree with or even understand. Simple (or I'll block you cause insulting is unecessary).

  • You have no idea about this horse, I bet you've never even heard of him before! You're comparing his death to Princess Diana? WTF? There are so many videos that are far more relevant to your argument, not a simple dedication video on which you are disgusting his memory. I dread to imagine his rider ever coming on here and seeing you being so nasty about them.

That kinda blind attitude is an embarrasment to the horse world.

  • can i just say something, i ride youngsters and i no from experience...... horses will not do something that they do not feel comfortable doing, they may nt enjoy it tho most of the time tey do .... most horses would not jump a fence if they didnt like it.... i agree that eventing is a dangerous sport and that sometimes the eventers abuse the horses but there is a little thing called and acciden, i respect both sides of the argument and i dont think that either of you are rong...

  • I get sick of people winging about horses being "forced" do compete in these "dreadful" sports. Like it or not, horses DO have emotions and there is no proof to show that horses cant enjoy a particular sport. Yes, I'care was undoubtably pumped up to his eyeballs with adrenaline, but I also truly believe that he loved his job.

Horses and ponies get killed whilst doing things like hacking- so is hacking a "cruel" sport? Grow up and appreciate these sports for what they are, not what can happen.

  • Well said. There's FAR worse things going on in the horse world. Why don't you go and put your comments to good use on say an anti slaughter video rather than on a dedication video to a lovely horse, rather than insulting everyone in the eventing world and Icare's memory.

  • Piratesmith, let me explain to you why this horse continued to go forward , ears forward as he was stabbed , it is called ADRENALINE ; everybody knows that. The horse was pomped up with Adrenaline rushing thru his body, stabbed or not , he didn't feel it. It takes a while for the rush to come down and the animal to truly feel the pain. Nothing to do with this horsey poo loving his job .... please grow up and stop thinking little fairy tales , eventing is a dangerous sport , for the horses.

  • YES, egasserd8888, beautiful answer. Piratesmith is an idiot and I'm sure knows it. Eventing is a terrible, selfish "sport" and eventers are selfish people. Laine Ashker, after Frodo Baggins' death went back to her "string" to see who had potential. People who love horses don't have a "string", they have horses they love. It isn't about awards and money to people who really love horses. So keep talkin, pirate, people are starting not to listen, thank God.

  • Come on, give eventing a break and see what this video is truly about. I don't care if you think eventing is a good or bad thing - find another video for that. Insulting my intelligence is completely inappropriate on a MEMORIAL video. Whether you agree with the circumstances or not is irrelevant. This horse died DOING WHAT HE LOVED. Give him so bloody respect.

  • Don't even go there. You don't know Laine. I don't but a close friend of mine was. She was torn up about Frodo's death. She didn't go straight back to the "string". Firstly she spent quite a while in the hospital. And if she did look for other horses, I am sure she was trying to get her mind away from the horrible accident. She is a wonderful rider and seems like a lovely person. Don't judge people you don't know. Its rude and shows just how low you are.

  • Eventing is about a team; a horse and rider, working together in harmony to be the best they can be. It takes months and even years of hard work to build the horses' condition and to build a relationship and bond to be able to compete together.

  • She went back to eventing less than 5 months later. She managed to kill 2 horses in one year. I really don't care how broken up she was. This is a dangerous "sport" where you decide whether you want to compete OR you love your horse; you can't have it both ways. I would rather love my horse for 25-30 years than have a stupid trophy. You can call me names all you'd like; my opinion of her stands.

  • Your entitled to an opinion - but I don't agree with it. Eventers love their horses, their horses love eventing. If you go by that view - do you turn your horses out? Cause that also carries a fair amount of risk.

  • Every sport has an element of danger in it.

I mean, you would have a case for an argument if this perticular accident happend more than once, but it didnt. It was a freak accident which will probably never happen again.

People die in sports all the time, that does not mean they do not enjoy them.

  • You are completely wrong. Yes he had adrenaline rushing through him, but anyone who knows anything about horses knows that given the choice - they will not do something they don't want to do - they're called refusals. Have some bloody respect - any horse lover would. A horse died, regardless of whether you agree or not, he CLEARLY loved his job. A horse can, and does, die in a turnout field. Stop insulting both me and a young horse's memory.

  • PirateSmith you are so naive , talking about the horse LOVES this and the horse LOVES that. These eventing horses are most often TB or in that case Selle francais under uncredible streneous training since early age. the training is: repetitive/ cruel/ punitive/HARD ; these horses do what they were ask to do; eventers of that level train their horses to become machines, the horse since young age did it because he had no choice. It is not that he loves it , he knows nothing else the poor thing SAD

  • Right. Now the eventers I know have been started at around 3/4 - the average age. They start jumping around 4. Icare was the youngest horse there at 10. So you're telling me he was trained to continue cantering on whilst so badly injured going AGAINST his riders aids with his ears still forward?? Racehorses are trained at 2 - eventers around 4. They LOVE it - end off. The evidence is here. You're ignoring the whole message of this memorial video.

  • PirateSmith is naive? thats amusing. Seeing as you obviously believe that its possible to force a 1000 pound animal to do something it doesn't want to. You obviously don't know enough about horses to be able to "read' them. That horse looked like one of the happiest horses i've ever seen doing their job. He was bold to the fences, hardly hesitant, and had his ears pricked the entire time.

  • Very well said, thank you

  • I will say it again , people who do high level eventing are the most selfish riders ever. I am so sick and tired about their speechES about bravery and such , they sacrify these poor horses for their own selfish glory. If they want bravery just climb mountains with no oxygen masks or swim with sharks or jump out of airplanes, leave horses alone, stop destroying them. I am so sick and tired of eventing so sick and tired of that ugly sport ( with riders dressed like clowns) RIDICULOUS PEOPLE

  • That's very unfair to say that. Event riders do not want this kinda thing to happen - is it not obvious that was a FREAK accident? A horse can break his leg out in a field, what's wrong with doing something that he loves? If he didn't want to do it - he wouldn't do it. Simple as. See him in the video - he doesn't want to stop! He just wants to carry on - cause he LOVES it. What happened to Icare d'Auzay was a complete freak thing. These riders LOVE their horses (and they don't look like clowns).

  • that was horrable! omg what year did this happen?

  • It was 2007

  • This video is brillant. I totally support you with the cause you're trying to make the eventing world aware of.

  • Thank you. It's really worthwhile for me to hear comments like that. Thanks

  • whats the name of this song?

  • I'm Lost Without You - Blink 182

  • Excuse me but i don't understand this accident... What is happen to the horse? (as wound I want to tell)

excuse my english because i'm french xD

  • That's ok, he hesitated at a jump but then the flag broke and stabbed him. He didn't survive.

  • Okay ! It's sad :( poor horse :( Thank's for your answer ^^

  • ;'(((((( I cried... RIP Icare d'Auzay

  • What a gallant horse.

He kept running right after it stabbed him.

    Wow, he was very beautiful.

  • flexable flags should be MANDATORY

  • I completly agree with you.

  • Great Job! We Will Remmeber Icare D'Auzay forever!!!

  • its sad that the accident could have been prevented. he was deffinately a true champ! even though he was hurt he went on, not because he had to bc the rider was trying to slow him down but you could see that he wanted to, and thats speical in a horse.

  • i cried watching this video...such a beautiful horse...love you...R.I.P...

  • it was awful. i was there i watched Icare D'Auzay's accident. there was nothing the rider could have done. just an accident. all the badminton stewards and vets did a great job. RIP

  • i was right infrnt of that jump when that happend, and he stopped infront of my mate further up :(

ill never forget that day, he went lame, but he wouldnt of felt any pain, ill never forget him :(

    R.I.P

    xxxxxxxxx

  • 4:46 He KNOWS what lies ahead, already, yet he Goes forward like the champion he is in his heart.........USE FLEXIBLE FLAGS!!!!!!

  • It`s terrible if a horse must die.I`ve seen last week dies a horse at a jumping event. You can`t forget the pictures.

  • soooooooooooooooo sad!!!!

  • oh sorry....i feel soooo bad for that horse.

  • wat happened....was that blood falling from were and y!!! :'( :( :O

  • Yes it was blood, he jumped the fence at an angle which caused his injuries, if you read the video description --> it explains it.

  • Good God that was horrible! x_x Poor thing, he was an amazing horse.

  • That's a horrid accident & one that SHOULD have been prevented. Course designers know horses sometimes go over the flags so why that one wasn't flexible is unexcusable. Condolences to the rider & owner.

  • I know I've crashed over flags many times. even wings sometimes...Eventing is dangerous for sure, it's just a shame Icare died from such a unimportant factor. I'm glad it has been covered now thanks to the usea.

  • R.I.P xxx

  • poor horse tehy should make flexible flags and now htey are making teh jumps break away so less horses flip over them =] RIP

  • wat is a artist where a music video? please

  • The band who sing the song are called 'Blink 182', if you youtube them and the songs name, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for :)

  • shocking he was soo great i will miss him i just wish that day that post wasent there

  • R I P Icare D'Auzay i was always a fan of you

  • thats awful!!!

  • he was such a beautiful horse and such a graceful mover, poor thing! :(

  • thank you

  • What is the song in this video?

Omg Icare was a saint of a horse RIP XX

  • I'm lost without you - blink 182

And, omg thats so sad :(

looks like he was amazing ! rest in peace.. =''''(

  • Thanks, and yep that's the song.

  • :'''''''''(

  • Terrible accident. Icare would of continued even though he was injured, it seemed as he wanted to. Ears forward, still cantering. Such a loss.

  • This Video Makes Me Cry everytime i watch it!

He Was Bleeding Loads Of Blood and His ears were still forward!

    RIP

  • this video made me want to start jumping..weird huh?.. its the way he looks so free and good running with all his speed and he seems to be enjoying it. i cant wait until i am able to enjot that =). and there was also a great lesson! such and poweful and strong horse.. RIP

  • He was a fantastic jumper and had so much potential. Hell be greatly missed

    Ps. You'll love jumping.

  • thanks! that means allot to me..

also i love watching him run. he was such a amazing horse. it doesnt seem fair.but he had a great time

  • R.I.P Icare d'Auzay....u were an amazing and beutiful horse!!

  • Oh oh oh

  • horrible...but plastic flags could snap and splinter just as easily...it's happened at a local ht

  • Yep, but they move away much better than those ones. There's a far less a risk or any injury and most competitions use a softer material than plastic.

  • this was one of the worst things in the history of eventing, the loss of a truly amazing horse, and an olympic hopeful :(

  • That was awful.

And his ears were forward through everything, even after his accident.

It's these type of horses that teach the best lessons.

  • He was such a beautiful horse and i hope he is at peace now. :(
