Romania had / has many great voices - Hariclea Darclee (19th c.), Virginia Zeani, Elena Cernei, Arta Florescu, Niculina Carstea, Eugenia moldoveanu, and the younger ones - Ruxandra Donose, Elena Mosuc etc. Splendid male voices also - Nicolae Herlea is the best of all !

Ileana Cotrubas is a great singer, but your glib remark insults both her, her compatriots & wonderful Birgit Nilsson whose name you shame. I heard & sang with both Cotrubas & Zeani & assure you that VIrginia Zeani is a singer of even greater stature with a much grander voice. Because she made few records she is less widely known to opera lovers these days, but within the opera profession she is legendary. Angela Gheorghiu always says that Zeani is her idol & inspiration.
