How long did you have it as just a base model RS before going in and swapping out motor and trans? I had an 01 RS GM6 (coupe) that i wanted to swap...but traded back to the previous owner as partial credit towards his STi that he could no longer afford. no regrets haha, but i'm jealous and wish i had an RSTi
Looks like a beast! I love subarus! I'm in the field of buying a car, I need something that will last for years and sporty. Would you recommend it for daily driver and the occasional spirited driving? Are they hard to maintain? Do they have any major mechanical issues?
@MoeJae86 Go sign onto NASIOC or any Subaru Forum and read up on them if you're not sure. Dont ask me because I'm biased. I drove my coupe all throughout college and as my work commuter for over 8 years with no issues whatsoever. I did buy mine new off the lot though in 2000 though...If you're buying used just look that the timing belt and headgaskets were done if the car has anything over 60k mi. They can be dreams and they can be headaches.
hey i bought one of these if i want an aftermarket steering wheel do i need a mechanic to remove the stock 1 with airbags and shit? also could i get a sti wheel or sonething from say an 07 or something? thanks bro
@Mariomonsta Go sign onto a subaru forum like NASIOC and search for that answer because I don't know off the top of my head if an 07 STI wheel will fit. My guess is that it will bolt on but the airbag wiring and the clockspring (the plastic ring that clicks off the blinkers when you turn the wheel and that has the airbag/horn plugs) will be different. The Stock RS airbag is just one plug and the wheel is held on with a 17mm nut. I just got rid of both airbags. Japan and EU never needed them :)
