  • white boys tryin 2 go hard lolz

  • You guys were great, but the swag is not there. Le sigh. And for the record. Black culture is put down all the time, until coroporate America decides to put blonde hair and blue eyes on it and then it's universally accepted. Black folk are expected to assimilate to white "culture" (and I use that term loosely) so we are expected to play classical music, know about European history, etc. to be accepted. That's just th truth and that's why some black people become offended. Just saying.

  • lol....yeah..got Alpha written all over it.

  • I have to admit...they did a good job...but this felt so weird!!! LOL

  • I know Damn well their faces aren't painted like the old Minstrel shows?? WTMF?!?!?!

  • Talk about respecting the art form, these dudes came out hard. Much respect from a member of a Latino Greek Fraternity that get's barked at all the time for stepping, lol. I've been stepping since I was in JHS, I would love someone to tell me I can't now that I'm in college (well I graduated, so I'm an alumni).

  • LOL...

  • Black Greeks teaching White Greeks to step. Don't get mad when a Divine 9 will be pushed out of stepping in the future. They will claim they invented....in a small village in Sweden.

  • Wow...

  • Hey you boyz got some style and some swag!

  • Steps were on point. No rhythm though. LMAO. Good job nonetheless

  • aiight brothas, it's time to go surfing and skiing and study iambic pentameter and Shakespeare on the weekends. thereafter we can hit the riviera country club for at least 9 holes then to taverns on the grill for a brewski.

  • I'm Black/African American & I don't understand all of the negative comments. I believe that your fraternity did an EXCELLENT job! I do not think that you were trying to still our greek's thunder at all. You were actually paying us a compliment. You put on a great show Zeta Psi I wish I could have been there!

  • "Imitation is the sincerest of flattery." - Charles Caleb Colton

  • Truth, but they were kind of crispy.... lol I had to admit it.

  • lol...wow..very good, yall jus need to work on yalls rhythm to music...fun to watch.....yall worked it!!!!

  • i meeean WOW!! Ive NEVER seen non-PanHell greeks step... (minus the intro) this was ACTUALLY GOOD!!! thats wassup...

  • yall did the damn thang. go head go head

  • No offense but at first, I thought it was a black fraternity. But you guys did your thang...

  • I think that this is a great opportunities for Greeks from two different schools to learn about each other. Maybe the Greeks at Xavier can do some of your typical customs next time. That way it is really a trade off. Great unity.

  • well it started a but loose, but you guys pulled it together, it was really cute, just needed stronger voices, lol the whole time I was watching I kept screaming "Whaaaaaaaat WhitBoys cain't do dat!!" lol but obviously they can. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance.

  • NEEDS MORE PRACTICE..

  • it was aight but like most comments b4 me i think ya'll cud use a lil more practice

  • I think a lot of y'all are missing the point with your bizarre claims that we white kids are trying to steal your thunder. Nobody tried to steal/mock/imitate anything. Xavier put on a step show, in which their fraternities and sororites coached ours from Tulane. That an over 80% black and over 80% white school came together and supported one another is something to be celebrated, especially in a city like New Orleans. It raised money for philanthropies, to boot. Remember racism goes both ways.

  • it's not that great. half the time was screamin they didnt do anythin. the other half the only reason it looked decent was cuz they had so many people. and how can you be sloppy on your trains? that's the most basic part of steppin and they weren't even together when the came in. i recommend more practice to at least tighten up what you have and get more creative with what you do.

  • Comment removed

  • Not bad. A little sloppy but that could be remidied with more practice. Nice to see them step outside of the box

  • Its sloppy not what I would think is acceptable in a step show, at least not where I'm from. You should all be on the same count or got rid of the two members who were off.

  • awesome

  • They gets House in ma book anyday

  • That was awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude seriously... calm da fuck down... its called not another greek step show for a reason... its all in fun

  • Point= They suck. They are obviously not original. All they did was copy and paste. Don't run your mouth saying many blacks couldn't provide half the info posted. Who do you think started Step? Simply shut the fuck up.

  • They did not suck. actually they were quite good assuming they do not do this on a regular basis. Step is a combination of African dance and European influence. A lot of the arts in AA culture is a mixture of African culture and European culture.

  • Ya'll poppin!!! And the fact that ya'll only had 22 days to learn this routine is evern greater!!!! SMH to all of the close-minded "cultural analysts" who cannot see because they are blinded by stupidity. I mean Presidency was something that was originated by whites sooooo Barack Obama shouldn't be President right.. hahaha. OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE! It's 2008! Further more: you who have an issue with them stepping: I'd like to see you learn this entire ten minute routine in 22 days and perform it!

  • John Hanson was the first black president of America before it became the USA we know today, look him up. Also Thomas Jefferson has black ancestors and is 'technically' the first black president using that definitiion.

At my school (Tuskegee University) Freshmen compete in a dorm step show with a month to practice for it every year and do a lot better. It just depends on how much actual time they devoted in those 22 days to practicing, and it looks like they didn't take it seriously at all

  • @kern417 should've put them on line for 6 weeks working 6 hours a night XD

  • go head on white boyz

  • GREAT

  • Too cool...glad you guys could step out of the box! We need to learn from you!

  • You guys are great!!! I am so proud to know that we can step out of the box! I hope you get more and more compliments!

Much love....I would love to see a sorority do this...that would be too cool!

  • stepping is for everyone. white black asian hispanic whatever...oh and if you want 2 see more stepping look up: Atholton Unarmed Exhibition....

  • People are getting on here acting like they have to explain themselves for stepping just because they are white...THEY DON'T lol They don't have to write an essay describing how much they respect the black culture or how they acknowledge the origin of stepping (if they did/could they'd probably enlighten many of the people complaining) they don't have to do anything but perform like the rest

  • its a step show and they did good who cares about where someone wants to live don't take it out of wack..Respect for stepping? Many of the people that attempt to pledge many orgs including bglo's are doing simply because its something cool to do and many blacks couldn't provide half the information posted under this video about stepping but will transform in to Dr. Cornell West a soon as they see a white frat stepping.

  • Regardless of Beethoven's ethnic background, he created classical music.Classical music had no bias on race, it had a bias on class/economic status at that time, so it doesn't really apply here. I do agree food is food and I do love some pasta, so thanks for not bombing me out for enjoying my spaghetti or lasagna. :-). The issue some may have lies in the fact that there are some who will cheer a "majority" frat step show, but at the same time say they could not live next to a "minority" person.

  • great steps!!!!!...here is a clip of one of the parents of one of the steppers in this vid from 25 years ago...I guess the apple does not fall to far from the tree...watch it it is pretty funny...I can't say whaose parent it is due to total embarrassment

  • Good job. I can't more like that.

  • I'm a Zete from the Pi Sigma chapter and that was fucking awesome you guys should be proud. 1847.

  • Pretty cool. I never thought I'd hear a year called out like "1-8-4-7" in a step show.

  • A bit slow with the movements, but overall a good job by Zeta Psi...???who are they anyway??

  • Thats the problem right there people "talk" about how stepping originated from "Africa" but no books have bared any evidence of it...the basic triplet pattern thats displayed in stepping has been used in many culture's ritual dances besides Africans..and yes that other guy is right..there were white fraternities that danced sung and did showcases before BGOs...majority of black greeks didn't even step..guess what they did? They sung like glee clubs maybe some of you all should study your history

  • Firt off, they did a good job. There are actually a few books that give evidence. Truth be told, stepping in it's current form is actually an African-American art from with roots/origins from Africa."Riverdance" type dancing is energetic, creative and has very intricate formations and movements, but it should never be confused with stepping and it does not have African origins. The Black Greek culture evolved from white greek culture becaue they were around first and you emulate what you see.

  • And you're right about the singing, etc. However, BGLO's evolved from just singing into stepping and probate/coming out shows which are more well known forms of personal expression within our orgs. If you're going to talk about studying history, then you do the same. Can you show any evidence of White Greeks stepping,as displayed in this video, besides the last 10 years or so?Most of the "talk" is about having a respect for stepping as more than simply "something cool" to do.

  • Im sorry for the haters out there but ZETA PSI did the damn thing. I mean it was funny to see them in the beginning strolling out there, but they did a damn good job. GO ZETA PSI.

  • well then again beethoven wasnt white soo

    we need a better example

  • beethoven was white. Are you mental?

  • I mean Im on the FENCE! lol Yall could have left that END out!!! BUT Im in a Minority Fraternity and we praise CULTURAL AWARENESS!!!

Yall did yall thing and in 22 days hey congrats cuz some ppl couldnt do it in a 2 months lol

SIGMA LAMBDA BETA INTERNATIONAL FRATERNITY INC.

    1986

    LAMBDA BETAS!!!! COAST2COAST

  • Showin some love from the Men of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Keep doing your thing. I am glad to see that you really tried. Great Job!!

  • y'all didn't suck not like them clowns I saw on the video UT. Y'all actually represented. All y'all hating are just retarded. Now if they sucked I would be the first to say they had no business stepping. But they came prepared and did a good job.

  • Honey its fine, I'm a member of an historically black greek organization myself and I see no problem in it. Yall betta step!

  • You guys are good man don't let peoples narrowminded outlooks hold you down. If you are doing this out of love there is never anything wrong with it. Of course there have been times when people have been disrespectful to the tradition but if thats not the case then there is no reason to complain about good stepping. Ya Dig.

  • I feel you, but I have seen several of these type of videos on youtube now. Its great to foster the sharing of culture. And fun for funs sake is great. The Balck community has little of its culture that is still solely its own. And stepping seemed the last thing anyone would immitate...wait they said that about hip-hop too.lolol Oh well, I appreciate you posting this, it was thought provoking. If you understand the history of minstrel shows, then you will see why you get some harsh reactions.

  • Well, I will say this, whether it's a tribute or a minstrel show is up to one's own opinion. But to evey white person who sees this video, just remember something. Co-optation is fine, but don't forget you keep taking everything but the burden. If that makes no sense to you, that's ok, Bill O'Riley should be on TV soon, and you'll feel better in no time.

  • Whites listen to black music, insults black music then claims it as their own - i.e. rock and roll - Ike Turner invented it. Whites insult black dancing (first noted in the racist and insensitive journals of white men exploring Africa), says it too derogatory and sexual, then trys to mock it. Read black history, the facts are all there. Now they are claiming the step...damn shame

  • good job guys!!!

  • You go Zeta Psi!

  • That was tiiiiiiight!!

  • dude u are soo gay it ridiculous. u must be a reject of society without a doubt. with regards to your reference towards frats as being gay, ur a moron. all the hottest chicks in college are in sororities, and sororites girls fuck frat guyz, thats it. we get more pussy than anybody you know. the complete opposite of being gay u dumbfuck. oh and btw, every president of this country was in a fraternity jackass. succesful? i'd say so. go get laid and get off ur pc for a day.

  • "1-8-4-7!!"

    Awesome job

    Tau Kappa Phi!

  • regardless of you guys reason for stepping was it shouldn't be called into question..yes as blacks we created and pioneered jazz but does that mean no one else can play it?

  • First off the step show derived from frat showcases and performances that were being done way before the year 1906 White frats would perform by dancing/singing to get recruits and women and they did compete against each other at times and yes these ARE orgs that discriminated against blacks. when blacks got their own orgs they did shows like the white orgs and it evolved to what we know now as stepping. This is what the step show derived from

  • Stepping IS NOT derived from white orgs showcases of dancing and singing i repeat IS NOT. It is derived from our African ancestors as someone so eloquently stated before me. So get the facts straight.

I just felt the need to get that out.

But I enjoyed the showcase it was refreshing and I bet Zeta Psi has a better understanding and respect for stepping now that they put in the time and effort it takes. So kudos to them.

    Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, INC.

    1920 ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ-Phi

  • Gum boot dance, look it up. And these guys were taught to step by Black Greek Organizations so your argument is flawed.

  • I though it was quite refreshing...you guys were actually good.......

  • steppin surely isn't a fad but, Black Greek Letter Organizations weren't the first to step. Our African ancestors were, BLGO's decided to adopt and embrace them into our culture, but it's technically borrowed property. I mean I agree we don't get to have much to ourselves, but I do think these dudes handled business! We need to stop hatin all the time, it's not a good look.

ya'll betta get it Zeta Psi!!

    1908 -- SKEEEEEEEEE-WEE!

  • Actually, Xavier asked Zeta Psi to do it. The guys in this routine only had 22 days to learn this entire routine, from never having stepped before. This was an unprecedented, even historic bonding in an otherwise racially divided city.

    So shut the hell up.

  • Why am I the only person that thinks this is horrible? "Steppin" isnt some fad or new dance technique for college white kids who know nothing about the history or AFRICAN origins of steppin! BLACK greek organizations also known as the DIVINE 9 were the ones that made steppin into a art form.

  • Quit complaining. What's wrong with them wanting to take part in something that isn't the norm for them? Be flattered that they want to take part in OUR forms of Greek appreciation. Why is it that certain Blacks like you are so closed minded when it comes to things like this? You went to college for a reason, and that's to be integrated. And for the record, I'm black, so please don't get it twisted. That's like saying we can't speak English because we didn't originate it.

  • and Kung Fu was Chinese, yadda yadda, a people strength is often derived from emulation. In this blue ball called earth, we all should have something positive to contribute

  • im with you frey guy...

  • Beta Tau holding it down.

Massive props from the Phi Chapter.

  • I have to say.....Zeta Psi had one of the greatest after party I ever had in my life. Ya'll got some much respect from Xavier for that shit!!!!

  • Proposal: Annual Pledge Step Show, grassy knoll, Shopping Cart Day.

    All in favor?

  • freaking awesome

  • Heather Doshey, more like Heather Douchey! LOLZ

    Amazing.

  • Awesome.

  • ownage :D

  • <===the girl in the video

And yes..you guys were definately robbed! Zeta Psi was by far the best show of the night among the guys...and I'm not just saying that cause I was in it! LOL

it was a pleasure working with you fellas! maybe the judges will have some "act-right" next time! LOL

    ONE LOVE

  • Excellent job representing Tulane, Zeta Psi!

  • Excellent steps. Real fun to watch. Great effort!

  • Your costumes, music choice, and choreography were good, but you couldn't stay on beat. The walk off was particularly bad.

  • holy shit you guys were robbed. sucks you didn't win but you guys look awesome.

  • ZETA PSI STEP LIKE..... Its ok Heather Doshay. you can give us all zeros just cuz u cant really tell people what you think of them. WE WERE THE REAL WINNERS
