i have a problem, i recently changed over to Ubuntu 10.10 maverick from windows. I have only been using it for 3 days and I am very impressed. I am a bit of a noob though when it comes to computers. The one problem i am having is choosing the numer of desktops. it is set to 1 in default, but it wont let me change the slide bar to any more desktops. any way round this?

I love the speed and stability of Linux but it still lacks usability. Not one of your videos has actually worked for me, I get error or menus you have I don't. I've visited 4 sites on installing GIMP and all of them have different instructions and none have worked. I'm not tappy-tard, I know my way around a computer but I hate command lines. Windows is crap slow but I don't have to research how to install every application I want.

Actually the compiz effet about the window preview in the toolbar works only if the window in question is opened. If it's reduced into the bar, this won't work.

If i'm wrong, tell me how to set it, because i don't find it very useful to have a preview about what you can already see.

@MrJAVIERLEANOS you should consider partitioning your hard-drive and installing linux on the other half of your hard-drive, thats what i did as i cant do without the games compatability of windows XD. just search on google 'partitioning the hard drive in windows 7' and 'wubi'. wubi's a program that lets you choose what drive you want to install it to... its so 'light' that you can even install it on a usb memory stick if you want

@MeshugenahScientist umm im not too sure, but if you have compiz installed on your linux mint system then just hit into the compiz settings manager, click on general comiz options, and in the desktop size tab, increase the number of desktops or virtual size

What I mean is this: a user can install an OS and it can work work perfectly, yet it can suddenly go awry. Programming is just too complex and it's impossible for the programmers to foresee every possible condition.
