It was a bad mix. None of the musicians was particularly bad, but they had divergent enough ideas that it didn't mix. Ted didn't want to play with Evan--just different tonality and ideas about where to go melodically. It just wasn't a good idea. The lyrics ended up with that same old gerund-based phraseology.
