80/beginning of 90 - oooh we're half way there oooooooh living on a prayer ; now: eeeeeh we're half way there and the audience : oooooh living on a prayer
@MissUranija Oh don't worry i am happy, to me Jon has a great voice and all , and i will probably "cry a thousand rivers " the day he dies but I just think that the way he sings living prayer right now isn't really good. but it isn't bad either. i wasn't being mean or hateful I was just saying.
@Valentina440 I know you didn't mean it bad. I was just saying how all the good are ageing :( we have to start a new rock'n'roll generation, just similar to Jon & CO. And Happy Holidays :)
I'm 16 and I grown up with bon jovi's songs. Now I remember that perfectly cause last weekend I saw an old video of me singing livin' on a prayer and you give love a bad name when I was only 4 years old(perfect pronunciation, unbelievable,I know), and what makes it greater is that I'm chilean, so english wasn't my native language. I knew exactly what I was singing, yes, I learnt English when I was 3 years old.
check out @1:57 and @3:18.... the same lady first pulls the skarf over Jon's neck and then he pulls him close to her to tell him something...! :-P :-P That's pretty funny... :-P
well, I could understand her enthusiasm if she were some decades younger... :-P
singers voices change the older they get....NO ONE can sing what they sang at 20 in their 50's - changes hve to be made. After all who can do what we did 30 years ago!!!
@evodevo69 you should see the video of the 1987 mtv awards here on youtube under the name '' Best living on a prayer live'' (i think). that is a killer performance where jon really screams the oooooooooohh oooooooooooohhh.
To all those negative posters...get over urselves and this "uncool to like Jovi" attitude. Just admit u really like them. If you disliked them that much you wouldnt care about Jon's vocals and waste ur time slating him on YouTube. In the words of JBJ in 2011 "my band can sell out stadiums all by itself" almost 30 years on Bon Jovi are one of the biggest bands on the planet and still relevant today. Now, go practise Livin On A Prayer and see if u cud do any better..cos I very much doubt it!
This has got to be my absolute favourite video ever! It just screams awesome, and who didn't just sit there and belt out the chorus like a totally psycotic person ? :)
The lead-up to the key change was hilarious. Jon got ahead of himself on the singing and each broke himself away from a crowd member to belt out a sour note. And of course that led to him NOT hitting the high note. He really showed some unhealthy vocal habits during that show. Easily predicted that his voice would turn to shit years later.
I was there! All the girls were in a froth and Jon got his ring pinched by an over-enthusiastic fan. They had an announcement at the end asking for it back.
Tommy and Gina: Tommy was based on one of Jon's friends. He got a baseball scholarship and one day he got a call from his girlfriend (Gina) that she was pregnant. Jon said this at the MTV awards 1989 performance.
Damn I used to have this on VHS that I recorded off MTV. I can't believe it was 25 years ago,I haven't seen this for probably 20 years. *adds to favorites*
From 1:02 - 1:04, and 1:09 - 1:10, Richard really, really looks like a young John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, just with a bit longer hair.
of course he sang... but after that tour he had to do a cirurgy on his voice, and then he never could get more than A... it must be so sad to a singer to lose his voice forever... Jon is doing well nowadays, but i'm sure he still feels sad about his voice... Great Jon!!!
i've been a fan from such a young girl and it's hard to believe this was filmed a year before i was even born lol! how jonny's voice has changed over the years!
love them.though everyone told me that their songs are old and strange, their songs are always bravo.love them not only 'cause the wonderful songs but the spirit of music.they are not sing for as their job or money.they sing because they love it and they enjoy singing.just like kids who just like the world...ha so cute...as i think
Sure one of the greatest performances I should say. Lucky the ones that have seen them back then. I 've been a fan for 23 years and I adore anything they sing cause they do it with every piece of their heart . Keep on guys !!! You rock !!!
@evodevo69 you're right. for one thing, it's clear that Jon;s voice is not at its best in the regular key. && David does sing the key change, because you can see jon pointing the mic towards the crowd during that part.
@evodevo69 Just so you know during the keep the faith tour in 93, there were a few shows where Jon sang the 2nd chorus and part of the key change live in livin on a prayer, milan 93 and tacoma 93 are examples. Those videos are available on youtube. Just for anyone who thinks Jon could'nt sing any of the notes after SWW tour or NJ tour.
@dannhuff1 He's always sang parts of the key change, even during the 2000s. But never the really high parts. Compared to what he was doing during 87 (in france clip is on youtube) it's obvious he wasn't. He does do a bit of the chorus but not in full like in the 80s. It was never a question of whether he could sing them, just whether he chose to that's all. For real live gems, check out 87 or 86 clips from france and dortmund (audio only) of prayer. Tacoma 93 is not much - just watched it.
@evodevo69 Yeah i've heard those clips, they are insane. The circle tour has been brilliant, set lists have been amazing and jon's vocals have been great, these days in particular at the O2 was amazing along with something to believe in.
@evodevo69 he may occasionally sing the key changes, but he was told after the SWW tour that he shouldn't be trying to hit those notes or he'll kill his voice
@Pricela93 There's no shame in not singing the key change either. Even today, it's not a matter of "can he hit it", of course he can. He did the original recording after his balls dropped, thus not much has changed in his voice since assuming he's kept it in shape (which he's jon bonjovi, of course he has). The determining factor of him singing it is how often he's singing at that time, tours and such. I don't care who you are, you can't sing your highest note every day. Thus he doesn't.
That's a little ridiculous. If they're a family then they shouldn't kick someone out for making a mistake like that. That's how a woman would handle it. Not a man. Reminds me of Jennifer Aniston shutting off her own mother for talking to a tabloid. If I was him I would have been like FU Bon Jovi I am as much a part of this band as you are.
Great tune. I know JBJ doesnt have the range anymore but I cant stand the lifeless acoustic version they do now. I wish they'd drop it from the set list. Nothing wrong with retiring a great song, just like you do a worn out American flag.
...there's a reason why this song despite its popularity is never on "Stars in their eyes" etc...and....damn them for cutting off the next solo grrrrr !
the key change in this song is the single greatest piece of music in the history of the world ever. that me be an exaggeration but it gives me chills EVERY time. his vocal range is INCREDIBLE!

While I think this is a great performance, it's kind of depressing to watch. Hearing him hit the notes, but knowing what that will soon lead to (and the permanent effects).
i really find it sad that he can't preform this song like the original recording anymore. I saw a vid of him in 1995 in London, and he couldn't do the WHOA LIVIN ON A PRAYER!!!!. Times have really changed for this band.
that he doesnt do it doesnt mean he cant anymore.. he choose not to sing it anymore after 1989, its not that he couldnt do it anymore.. it was just to save his voice.
i watched all the bands thrash and glam metal bands, and bon jovi.. i just loved it the 80's is sooo great not just like todays kid of musica.. i love these years .. but im born in 1987 .. i admit these years rock
It is simple..This video is old.And it is totaly normal that thay sound better today..To many practise and tours..Thay are older now..Who thinks that you can be perfect with 24 jears,he doesnt know what music is..
I was there! look at 2 mins 46 secs and I'm the one with the dodgy 80s black and white jacket :¬) Happy memories x

Fuck this is good. From a stadium rock standpoint -- not the ladies who love the band for different reasons -- the quality of this song is paramount.

i really find it sad that he can't preform this song like the original recording anymore. I saw a vid of him in 1995 in London, and he couldn't do the WHOA LIVIN ON A PRAYER!!!!. Times have really changed for this band.

Well, they do still sound awesome. They literally had to shoot him up with steroids to keep him up.

who says he couldnt do it at that time in 1995?
that he doesnt do it doesnt mean he cant anymore.. he choose not to sing it anymore after 1989, its not that he couldnt do it anymore.. it was just to save his voice.

He can't sing the song like he could back in the day... He's older and he smokes... I kinda like it better when Richie backs him up anyways!
