Plus back then it wasn't accuracy, it was numbers.... so a SINGLE person firing back would be less of a threat than a battalion VS battalion session to the individual.

Wheras musketeers needed only a couple of weeks. Plus arrows were hand crafted and required meticulous production methodes while musket balls were simply poured in molds, much faster and cheaper to produce. And finally muskets did have the edge in psychological warfare. The loud bang and smoke tended scare the opposition.

As much as I like this and applaud this man's ability, we must not get carried away. The real British regular infantry soldiers of this time depended on there discipline to survive. It is all fun and games for us lot to merely talk about the way to do it and/or how it should be done - but we are not stood there shoulder to shoulder with your friends and under enemy fire. We are not in danger at all. I would not discredit them. I actually reckon that they would be superb and fire 3-4 per minute.

the trick that was used to fire 3 shots a minute was not to use the ramrod but to tap the musket at the butt on the ground so the ball settled, that gave you 2 seconds to aim and fire.

Interesting - and the soldiers marched forward with loaded muskets too on Half Cock, so he could have easily achieved 4, or maybe 5 shots a minute, if he started off loaded with Half Cock on.
It was not called the Mad Minute for nothing. In WW2, the British army could fire 30 rounds in 1 minute with their Lee Enfield 303's. Take into account, that the Enfield had a 10 round clip. Germans on the recieving end of the Mad Minute swore they were being shot at by machine guns.

True. I live in the UK, and there's definitely a weird kind of hoplophobia around. Even regular police officers aren't armed (and don't want to be). Every other industrialized country has figured out that police need firearms to protect themselves and the public (without waiting several minutes for armed backup).

@qwiksquirrel I have no desire to upload a video 'doing a better job'. I made my point. Oh, and I don't need any 'knowledge of BP shooting', to have an opinion on this video. Muskets are pretty simple. Actually, I could learn to load and fire a musket that fast, maybe even faster. But, just like the guy in the video, I wouldn't be hitting anything but air, that of course is if I was loading a ball.

You know, it is so funny watching you guys bickering amongst yourselves while your governments use this aggro and infighting as a pretext to generate more unnecessary fear and trembling amongst the citizenry to justify ever-increasing restrictions on law-abiding gun owners that have little to no effect on criminals. at rorke's drift only a 1,000 zulus were comitted to the battle and only 300 lost their lives. In comparison to what the Voortreckers did years prior at the Battle of Blood river, the performance of 1st world infantry is pathetic.

True. I live in the UK, and there's definitely a weird kind of hoplophobia around. Even regular police officers aren't armed (and don't want to be). Every other industrialized country has figured out that police need firearms to protect themselves and the public (without waiting several minutes for armed backup).

@swanyAJ Where I live (Western USA) I'd feel safer staggering around blind drunk on a Saturday night than I'd feel sober at noon in some parts of London. Pistols are commonly carried, and my state has a "stand your ground" law (i.e. no duty to retreat if accosted by an attacker, and you can legally use lethal force to defend yourself.) And our crime rate? It's in the TANK.
In England, you can't use that shotgun for defense, even to save your life! ! Do so and it's prison time for you, my friend.

In other cases, RAF attacked RN ships thinking they were German battle ships.

the USMC has no world equivalent. Only the Waffen SS came close to our effectiveness of the battlefield.
Being compared to fucking british infantry that fled from France in 1940 at the sight of Waffen SS men is an insult.
Being compared to brits = same people who retreated out of Basrah, Helmand and Singapore 42 and comparing them to people who took Marjah, Musa Qala, Mosul, Iwo Jima, Fallujah, Tarawa...... is also an insult.

Do you realize how an army suffers during a retreat or a streak of defeats. The years of 1939 through 1942 are marked by british and commonwealth retreats on nearly all fronts. N Africa was the only place they could hold till the US came in. Besides this, USA spearheaded a two front war, defeating the jap navy and the bulk of the jap army both in SE Asia and the Pacific. 1944= for every brit and canadian there was 3 Americans on the western front.

Those Americans died taking ground back, they didnt die in jap prison camps or surrender in the Balkans, Dunkirk, Dieppe, N Africa or Crete.
In fact the only reason Monty's 8th army was able to hold onto a small patch of Africa was because his tanks ran on AMERICAN OIL
