Im not doubting the talent of grohl because he has alot of talent in his own genre (which i dont really like) but he was always too afraid to pitch any ideas (even tho he did make that scentless apprentice song). Krist however is an avg bass player at BEST; and you can tell because none of his bass lines are that special or unique. Theyre all just typical bass riffs that follow the guitar which isnt special.

If it werent for kurts vision, there would be no nirvana. However, the same cant be said for krist; if krist was out of the picture, nirvana would have maybe suffered a minor blow and moved on. Maybe thats just the case for all bass players tho. his basslines are just average im not even being a prick about it dude.
