In this decade, that part of the nation has faded. The Elks Clubs in Queens, NY (the kind of place where Archie Bunker would've hung out) is gone; the immigrants from Russia, India, and Iran have no use for it.

Clint Eastwood's character represents a dying part of America; the Masonic Lodges, Elks Clubs, bowling alleys. These were the kind of things that were a staple of the White American working class.
In this decade, that part of the nation has faded. The Elks Clubs in Queens, NY (the kind of place where Archie Bunker would've hung out) is gone; the immigrants from Russia, India, and Iran have no use for it.

God, his granddaughter is a horrible person. She's more concerned about getting a car than her grandfather being shot to death by a bunch of thugs. I loved this movie honestly, but some of the characters in it really piss me off.

@alexsweeley Some of these characters (i.e. the grand-daughter) are meant to piss you off. This shows you how shallow the new generation is. But who created this person? Walt's (aka Clint's) son. What does this tell you of the upbringing he provided his son?

I hated the stupid little bastards in his family; and I'm damn glad that Clint passed out a massive message through (quite possibly) his best movie ever.
People could learn a thing or two from this movie; other than how they stacked gooks five feet high in "Best Korea".

Besides Clint Eastwood dying, the ending is great. His greedy unloving family didn't get shit, and most importantly, the 1972 Gran Torino won't be mutilated by a chop top, flames, or a spoiler.

i love the sincerity of thao's smile at the end. he doesn't smile because of what he receives in the will, but he smiles when reflecting on the memory of his mentor and savior. it's extremely moving...
