Vented soffit is necessary in more than one location on this home and I didnt see any, the home needs to circulate air to be efficient. The fence should not have been J'd around either, if they want to tear out that fence and replace it, they will have an issue where the house is not sided.
@stillrob420 Even if it did take him a month thats still better than paying someone 2 bucks a square foot to do it. Its hard to feel good about paying someone that much money for something so easy. Like paying for laminate click flooring.
Virtually no overhead and no inventory, since everything is returned that isnt used.
Yeahgreat but how to START? With the outside corners up, how SPECIFICALLY does the starter strip attach to the first pannel. The distanceof the strip from the bottom of the wall is WHAT??? I guess its obvious to most but me, does anybody have a video on how to start?
Well, people do things on differents ways. We start from bottom up to the top. Soffit and fascia are the last ones. We use trim nails, not screws. We also uses finish trim under windows, The way we take measurments are quite different than you.
wow i hope your getting $800 a square at that pace. Did you all see how he measured and drew a perfectly straight line on that soffit? what a waste of time. I could have put in 3 of those soffits by the time he did that one. I guess you make up for it cause u can pound in nails super fast. Nice videos though
when you snap that line for the soffit going up the gable... measure down an inch and an eighth or whatever the j channel nailer is so that you can see the line easier
pretty cool video, but it must be old,,we use way more compact drills14.4 milwalkie..that fucking thing looks like a hammerdrill..buddy must have Popeye arms
I am wondering I have a flat masonite sided home, well half is brick, do you still have to install that under board? Is the pourpose for added insulation?
Does anybody know if it is possible to strip board and batten? If so, approximately how much would it cost to strip board and batten from a 5000 square foot house?
its not a problem at all to strip Vinyl board and batten, not sure on the cost due to material costs differ, plus lights, doors, windows, if any soffit has to be removed it all has to do with the job, you'll need to get a estimate from a local sider - should be free.
The back and one side of my house has vinyl siding and the other side and front is still aluminum, should I remove all the aluminum siding first or just go over it? any advise would be helpfull.
For a second, I was beginning to wonder if you were using furring.. I'm glad I watched it all the way through. I feel much more confident about the project I'm just beginning on my garage! Thanks for the video!
great job... especially around the electric box, very good idea... only question, may sound dumb, did you pull off the old siding first or just insulate on top of it and side over that??
How does the soffit and j-channel expand if you screw it in. The way you installed that is how old school aluminum guys installed metal thet did not expand in the heat. The Soffit will bow in heat and you voided manufactures warenty.
On All Soffit less than 15 inches in length, expansion is far less of a concern. I generally use a fastener at only one end of the panel to allow any necessary expansion within the J-Channel.
J-Channel is firmly fastened around all window openings, and expansion is not generally an issue. Corner Post are loosely nailed or fastened to address Expansion.
is that asbestos

Do your soffet and fascia first.
Measure down from the soffit.
Find your lowest point.
Level lowest point all the way around your house, making sure that it will cover all the way around, you my have to tinker with thi step.
Once you get that mark, nail on your STARTER STRIP.
Then corners, then siding.

You can screw vinyl siding put you have to leave the fasteners centered and proud in the slot or it will buckle in the heat.
