I know he has a very unconventional style, and SEEMS to lack power but he makes up for it by landing considerably more punches with good hand speed and clever combos. Joe being knocked down in the first round, surely gave a big advantage to hopkins, to, er...finish him, within 12 rounds, maybe? I know he has a very unconventional style, and SEEMS to lack power but he makes up for it by landing considerably more punches with good hand speed and clever combos. He also got As much determination as i've ever seen in a fighter. That's why he's 'great'. He's not a legend, but he won that fight, and he'll be remembered more fondly and for longer than Hopkins.

In slappys fight with Hopkins, slappy was knocked down in the first round and tagged often by Hopkins. It sure looked like Hopkins won. He ended up losing by a 12-round split decision, but I had Bernard winning easily by two to three rounds based on the more effective punching.
While Hopkins was drilling slappy all night with hard right hands, slappy could only fire back with a lot of slaps. slappy could have helped make himself a star giving Hopkins a rematch, but he didnt. I wonder why?

Hopkins is a great fighter and got better over time entering his prime in his 40's making good fighters look bad..Trinidad , Tarver, Winky , Oscar , Pavlik , Taylor, and even gave a prime Roy Jones Jr. a good fight early on. Hopkins just underestamated Joe and probably shouldn't have been so cocky.... Much respect to the 44 year old though.

Well as much as i would like 2 agree with u,i cant, bernard is def past his prime!! he even said it himself,and hes been past his prime 4 a couple of years now,the reason he still able 2 beat the top fighters 2day is cuz even though hes past his best,hes not far from his best and Bernard underestimated Joe?? i thinks its the other way around,Joe tought this waz gonna be an easy fight,Joe talking bout how he gonna dominate and even KO Hopkins!! and JOE waz always the cocky one in the interviews!!
