  • Taking me back to my childhood, I saw the movie in Bandra, Mumbai

  • this made me want to play with my thumbs lol

  • Love, love, love it :-) Thank you :-)

  • SHE HAD ME AT HELLO. Beverly Washburn, the actress in this film, and I are the same age and at 9 years old she had me at hello. Happy Birthday Beverly

  • Such a cute song

  • I love Danny Kaye...I've never seen this before, but I've seen him in White Christmas! :3 when I was little, I had a crush on him xD I need to see more of his movies :0

  • have had this song in my head all week <3 x

  • I loved watching this movie on tv when I was a kid with my dad! DAnny was very taleted! And what a fun song! Memories! I never knew it was a movie from the 50's then, I just knew it was old. I love so much from that time!

  • Steve Merchant's version's better

  • I'm 21 now and this movie has the same effect it had on me when I was 5. Danny Kaye is a lost treausre.

  • Whoever doesn't like this has no soul.

  • I loved this film as a kid. this is one of my favorite songs. The little girl is so cute. I wish they movies like these again. Todays films suck.

  • Kaye was born to play this part. I can't imagine anyone playing it better. The tune to Thumbelina sounds like an Italian song, though I can't place it. The whole sequence is delightful and innocent, yet has a creepy undercurrent.......as though a pedophile were exhibiting something other than his "thumb" to the little cherub.

  • Child actress:Ms.Beverley Washburn..(The little lady who appeared in"Superman & The Molemen"/"The Unknown People")plays the kid..who hears Hans Christian Andersen sing about"Thumbellina".

  • i love danny kaye always made me want to laugh

  • Who is that girl?

  • 5 people are no bigger than my thumb.

  • They just don't make 'em like this anymore!! xx

  • ,,,today the girl would be a little whore in a thong bikini and the visual effects would be constant camera changes, zoom ins, blurs, bright flashes every second typical of today's distracting TV.

  • @PupuTheClown Hahaha how true!!!! Not to mention some Michael Bay explosions thrown in for good measure ;)

  • @Fuzzbuttuk Or more likely, the child would be spotted talking to a prisoner, who would instantly be accused of "grooming" her and his sentence would be increased by another 20 years. The child would be torn from her parents grasp to receive counselling, which would melt her head enough to make her dabble in hard drugs. She'd then be found OD'd in a pool of her own puke at age 21.

    :D

  • @Fuzzbuttuk Welcome to 2011! :)

  • I used to watch this movie everyday when I was a child :] <333

  • When your heart is full of love, you're 275 centimeters tall.

  • now im grown up, i think this guy is kinda creepy

  • Danny Kaye was a wonderful genius!

  • @Kenyawegian Indeed-- all his movies are absolutely wonderful; every character he plays is a gem. I wish they'd put a collection of his movies together.

  • Chris Hansen, we need you!

  • I guess when you're locked in a prison cell, you have to think of ways to amuse yourself.

  • what is this

  • Hans Christen Anderson is my Great Great Uncle. From my moms side :)

  • @MickyMouse2277 Wow. that's pretty damn cool!

  • @RorySeizeTheDay Yea.... I think so too. My mom says that I am just as creative as him. . And that he passed on some pretty good genes

  • @MickyMouse2277 and do you know if this film's story really happened in you're great great uncles life?

  • @RorySeizeTheDay No.... I dont really know anything about him other then his awesomeness

  • @MickyMouse2277 WOW!!! Impressive, did she teach you how to spell his name as well...

I presume you are trying to say you are related to Hans Christian Andersen, instead of an apparently Swedish guy named Anderson.

  • @AyanaLai Yea she did. Her last name before she was adopted then married was Andersen.

  • @MickyMouse2277 Sorry I was being sarcastic, it just annoyed me that everyone spells his name with an o, instead of an e, it could have been a typo on your part.

But it still makes him swedish if you call him AndersOn...

  • An age of innocence! I used to play this on piano for dancing classes. I realise after watching it again after all these years I've not grown up as I actually enjoyed it :)

  • The whole time, I was half expecting him to do something dirty D:

  • my dad and I used to watch this together all the time when I was little..it was his favorite. I loved it too! brings back great memories. :)

  • The little girl's name is Beverly Washburn

  • I love Danny Kaye and this is my favorite Danny Kaye moment of all time

  • this is GREAT!!!!!!!! thanks for posting it

  • *sigh* Oh I love Danny Kaye! He was such a good singer!

  • playhour records had a cover of this song

  • I just Lost my dad and he use to sing this to me all the time when I was little too.Great memory's

  • awe thanks for sharing that video, wow it's been a long time!

  • Catchy tune--shows how easy it is to entertain children with a little creativity.

  • I haven't seen this movie in at least fifteen years, but I still remember this whole song. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  • Comment removed

  • what the name of this movie??

  • @CartoonParadise99 It's called "Hans Christian Anderson" starring Danny Kaye, it's a classic.

  • I have Always loved this song from the movie. One day I will sing these songs to my children.

  • what a wonderful memory thank you so much i loved danny but my mum LOVED DANNY if you take my meaning and i have a wonderful brother named John who used to sing this for me when he was small what a joy this is a good day in my lfe thanks a million

  • I LOVE DANNY KAYE! He was easily the BEST actor ever! I always wanted to be like him when I grew up, and I did get into acting/theatre but no one has his comedic genius! Danny Kaye was equally great in "Walter Mitty..." He, Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Jerry Lewis were some of my favorites to watch in syndication as a child! Oh how I wish he was still alive!

  • @DarkSeraphGurl LOL...I also remember he did a "cameo" appearance as another "doctor" other than Bill Cosby's character on "The Cosby Show" in the 80's. He was great!

  • @starfire993 --- Not cool. this man has done more children issues in his life than whloe countries have been able to do.

  • Okay, someone corrected my statement about the writing of the songs. I appologize for the mistake.

  • still listen to his songs on cd

  • The guy is on crack....

  • he's...crazy

  • Danny Kayes wife actually wrote all of the songs that he ever sang in his movies.

she would not let any body else write any.

  • @lotrat That's crap actually. Thumbelina was written by Frank Loesser along with all the other songs in this movie

  • Man this dude can't stop even when they put him in jail. ... wonder how many went missing in that town.

    Michael Jackson's favorite movie.

  • When I was five years old, I wanted to marry Danny Kaye when I grew up. A lot has changed since then, but I still adore him.

  • Uber cute!!

  • Loesser's score to this, like all of his other works besides "Greenwillow", are just flowing with lovely melodies. Ty for these posts!

  • aww the girl's so cute !!!

  • She looks like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

  • Oh I remember watching this when I was tiny!!! :) - Imitating the drawing on the thumb... I'll always remember watching this when I was little.... I love Danny Kaye! :)

  • Haha he's a pedo.

  • Man, I just realized that kid is totally dubbed.

Sigh. Everything is better when you're little. :)

  • This...... is a man...... singing about his thumb.... in a dress..... to a little girl....

and its the sweetest thing ever.

  • i love the song

  • i thought it was like Thumbelina a tiny person but its just a cloth n other things

  • ahhh! danny kaye!

  • okay... now i'm FREAK OUT when i heard the song.

  • I collect HCA books. Made my adolescent years more bareable...

  • This movie brings back fond memories of kaerlig Danmark and the songs sung by Danny Kaye are priceless. Would love to get this 1952 movie for my collection. Hej hej, Georg.

  • I LOVE This Film :L xx.

  • Oh i loved this movie when i was little :) When i played it my mom started singing :) Brought back great memories :) Thank you!

  • If it moves kiss it

  • OMG. I find this video and my parents hear the song and they FREAK OUT! "I Love this movie!" They are so weird...

  • The little girl reminds me of Vera Ellen. :O

  • I remember singing this in my school musical when i was 8. each year had to sing a different song.

  • this film used to be my favoriteee film EVER.

I have seen looking for it for ages :|

    Thankyou :D

  • My favourite scene!!! ^__^

    Endless stars from Italy!

    Stefano

  • love love love this movie.

    danny kaye is amazing <3

  • Jewish1972 , are you EVER pleasant?

  • it doesnt really look like it

  • Oh dear Jewish1792; I'M afraid ur just rather bitter! This film is one of the best musicals ever made! It's a fab story with beautiful songs and has a great message! It makes people happy to watch old musicals so if ur not one of them and if u don't like it, stop watchin the clips!!!!

  • The little girl looks like one of the Olsen Twins when they were small.

  • this is one of my favorite scenes along with "inch worm". I loved this movie as a child and still do.

  • I just ordered this from Netflix! I can't wait to watch it! It looks so cute. :3

  • Though you're no bigger than my thumb, than my thumb, than my thumb. Sweet Thumbelina don't be glum now, now, now eh, eh, eh come, come, come. (Thumbelina Thumbelina tiny little thing. Thumbelina dance, Thumbelina Sing. Oh Thumbelina what's the difference if you're very small? When you're heart is full of love you're nine feet tall!) x2

  • Oh, this brings back memories:))

Thank you so much for sharing this with me Centurian73:))

Thank you for posting this scrutmonkey81 :))

  • I love little friends!

    Tuit, tuit (;>

  • wow, i've heard of this movie (: but it's great.

but it's just that... the real H.C. Andersen wasn't that pretty. so it seems very unreal to me. and he didn't sing either... he wanted to, but was very bad at it

  • and he was a very troubled man to

    Kind of unhappy,

I'm glad this movie portrays him this way though, I've seen some dark ones about him :/

  • are you talking about Hans Anderson or Danny Kaye that was dark and troubled?

  • @ashleeamazing what movies? hes was not dark at all. till the day he died he was nothing but light for children all over the world. He was a personal friend of our family and he is the reason I am alive today. his work in childrens issues are known world round. Please dont post unfounded bad things about people. Mr Kaye was a light to this world and if more people were like him we would be better off.

  • Thank you for posting this precious song. My father used to sing this to me when I was a little girl. Danny Kaye's great. :-)

  • One of my favorites, I use to sing this song all the time when I was a young girl.

  • My favourite scene!!!!! Thanx!!

  • /watch?v=fFH0khjgA0U

  • Love this. I love Hans Christian Andersen stories adapted by Danny Kaye

  • pickupstix99 LOL that made me die out laughing!

  • Che meraviglia!Questa sì che era arte...

    Danny Keye era straordinariamente bravo...

  • In music class, we all had to bring in a homemade Thumbelina. My Mom and I weren't so creative. So I brought in a badmitten birdie covered by a hankie. Talk about embarrassing? LOL.

  • I failed Art in 6th grade. Your Thumbelina was creative. Danny Kaye was a great actor and entertainer.

  • I won't tell you how many years it took for me to get kudos on my Thumbelina. You are kind. And you have good taste in movies. This is a treasure!

  • The little girl looks like one of Olsen sisters.

  • Beautiful scene!

  • For fuck's sake Thumbelina, cheer up!

  • hahaha you'd be miserable too if you were someones thumb!

  • This just reminded me. I remember this movie as a child. I HAVE to get this for my daughter.

  • That little girl sounds like bambi! so cute!

  • Just so you know it's Andersen:)

  • That's so cute :)

Danny Kaye has a beautiful voice

  • This is when fulfilling family entertainment was at its finest

  • I have the 78rpm record with this song and on the flip side is the "Wonderfl Copenhagen" I've never seen the scenes from the film it came from till now. I never kenw it was such a cute movie!

  • I used to sing this song over and over as a child.

  • Oh my god! My daddy used to sing this to me when I was little, and I had no idea it came from this! Such mere chance led me to click on this.. i'm sincerely touched! Thank you!

  • this was my favorite movie

  • who has a less than functioning brain? How has the video been made perverted? Please share your "wisdom" and whilst your at it, take your own advice and grow up!

  • yes there is always one idiot, shame for you that it is you. How exactly has this video been perverted? If you are going to come on here just to send ridiculous comments then at least have the balls to be honest about what you mean. are all people from Boone like you?

  • The Most Beautiful Man In The World, Class, Style, Gorgeous In Every Way, Miss You Danny Boy, Love You Forever xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Danny Kaye was the MAN!!

  • omg, it's so cute! I've never seen or heard of this version before, but it's great! What a nice man!

  • i know!

  • Danny Kaye had so much magic when he sang and acted. He is not replaceable.

  • I'm only 27 but I had it on video and watched it daily (so I'm told) and I still love it for a feel good movie

  • It's great taht younger people have seen this great children's favourite. I saw it first time round when I was 4.

  • I loved this movie!

  • tiny johnson tiny johnson tiny little thiiiiiiing heh

  • Huh?

  • I grew up on this movie, its the only one i would watch, I LUV Danny Kaye

not alot of ppl knew this but he was bipolar, and acting helped him

  • Danny Kaye was the best choice for this character. He had such an awesome unique voice and character on screen that no one else could copy. My favorite musical .

  • This is one of my childhood favorites. I grew up on Hans Christian Anderson stories and Thumbelina has always been one of my favorites because being full grown at 4/11 and always the shortest in my class I was always made fun of but my Mom would sing this song to me to make me feel better and it always worked!

  • your mother sounds Beautiful.

  • She certainly is.

  • That is beautiful, and being a thumbelina myself I'm wishing my mum had sung it to me :D

  • I've never seen this movie but I've always loved the music. Inch worm is probably the strangest of all and the most beautiful. Are all the songs in the film this simple?

  • yeah mostly pretty simple, but beautiful in their innocence

  • Is the little girl the same actress as 'Lisbeth from "Old Yeller" (a few years later)?

  • She is...Beverly Washburn :)

  • I have no idea I'm afraid, that film makes me cry to much to pay attention to the cast.

  • I was going to ask the same thing!

  • I don't know why this is creepying me out...lol

  • Why was he in prison?

  • He was singing on a statue of the king or something...

  • yeah he was singing on a statue that he shouldn't have been standing on (the police are ott even in films)

  • i love it!!!!!!11

  • I watched this with my grandma before she died. This movie is very special to me.

  • Danny Kaye was a legend. He was amazingly talented. Great film and songs.

    :o)

  • One of my favorite movies. Loved It!

    (((Hugs)))

    ~Mimi

  • 56 years old and as magical as ever. Danny Kaye probably the finest entertainer of all time.

  • that girl is ADORABLE! I love this movie!!!!

  • I love this movie and this is my Favorite song My other favorite song is "The Ugly Duckling"

  • i had no idea there was a movie about him. im closely related to hans christian andersen

  • Run! Save yourself! ;o)

  • i dont get it. what are you talking about

  • No blood relative of HCA should have to endure one of my idiotic parodies...

  • Thank you for posting this! For reasons I won't bore anyone with, I think of this whenever I run across the word "Kundalini"...

  • heh you have my interest sparked so now you are gona have to put me out of my misery and explain the link from thumbelina to kundalini. thumb chakra? heh

  • OK, OK... I have for a long time had an interest in "paranormal" message boards and stupid song parodies, as well as a knack for getting songs burned into my brain. The first time I saw the word "kundalini" I just had to scratch the itch and write one up based on this. Sadly I've lost it. Maybe I'll do up a new one...
