@KatiushaVN4 yes china lost at least 26 000 troops as believed by western sources. However Vietnamese losses were at least 70 000 troops. The 10 000 mostly refers to civilians that were killed. Technically speaking vietnam still won though, having driven back china as well as maintained its presence in cambodia (it did not leave until 1989).

It is estimated vietnam lost 30 000 regular troops and china 26 000 with civilian casualties up where you stated. I do still say vietnam won. But the correct number of those killed i doubt will ever be known as both sides downplay their losses

The number of 30,000 that Vietnam lost was China's claim. On Wikipedia, in the past that number (30,000) wasn't stated as "Western" claim but China's instead. I don't know why now Wiki says: Western claim. LOL Wiki keeps changing information over time as people can have the access to edit info in Wiki.
