  • invest in some tweezers haha

  • could you use 0603 smd leds?

  • Ur awesome man keep modding xboxs

  • Best tut I've seen so far. You're the first to suggest the flux and solder bread, neither of which I knew existed. This method would have made the process a lot easier the last time I did it.

Also, the modded ROL just has the new LED color. It really doesn't matter if it's red or not, an error message still comes on the screen and you still get 3 lights signifying the error. If you have an RROD, you don't need the LEDs to figure it out.

  • Hey can you give them about five

  • Very nice tutorial! considering doing this with one of my spare consoles. Thanks allot man.

  • thanks

  • @BOOMBRUSH xbox puts special LEDS in xboxs so that they turn red and green but they set it up to where they only turn red when the console over heats and gets (rrod) so if you put new LEDS in your xbox then you they won't turn red.

  • .... someone has robbed microsft xboxs

  • That's really cool

  • Thank you, this helped so much

  • @chikenexpress36 Thats not racist. Look up the meaning. Or does a 12 year old have to tell you?

  • Nice but I have a question:

The regular LEDS are green and if you get the red ring of death they turn red. Now since you replaced them, if you got the red ring of death, what color is it?

  • @BoomBrush Nothing other than the center blue led since he didn't solder anything in place of the red leds.

  • @BoomBrush the other guy is wrong, any error light along with regular lights will be the color of the NEW led's. for example, he changed them to blue, if he got the rrod it would be 3 blue lights.

  • @RadioDust1 i think he ment it wont go Blue=Norm

    Red = bad

it will all be blue & you want the red light when it errors.

  • Comment removed

  • @BoomBrush the color you changed it too i guess

  • @BoomBrush

Red because he didnt take out the other red leds!!

  • @TheZevra the red leds are part of the green ones....wtf? and it would either be blue or nothing at all.

  • @BoomBrush it will stay blue i think. but it isnt too difficult to find out if your xbox has the rrod ^^

  • This is a great video. Thanks a lot!

Btw, your camera is a beast to focus when you're that close.

  • how come yours cooperate so much -.-

  • What if I dont have anything that can clean up the solder then what happens

  • @kajukid23 just dont add any more after you place it

  • Excellent video but when I did this, I only managed to get 1 (or 2?) of the 4 ROL's to sit on their side. It's just way too much work. Getting them on their side to start is a pain and then once you touch it with the solder, it usually falls flat anyways. Still came out pretty good.

  • Awesome. I wanna do this to my old 2005 model Xbox! I have 2 newer Xbox's wich I don't even play Xbox anyway. So if I mess up and destroy 1, I have the other 2, if I ever do play Xbox again!

Now... I need to get some tools.

  • amazing video quality.. i was gonna ask if you stole those xbox 360s but clearly you white and most thieves are black, so i assume you spent your hard-earned money on them

  • @sk8erkilljoy what a racist bastard

  • @sk8erkilljoy you just randomly say shit like that even when its completely irrelevant? kinda weird might wanna work on that.

  • @sk8erkilljoy , what the fuck bro, blacks cud beat ur white ass till its its blue, u fucktard

  • this is the best tutorial video i have ever seen on youtube good job!

  • Best rol mod video! Thanks for taking your time out for the vid!

  • Great video, very useful. Are those the same LEDs that are for the controllers? I want to buy in bulk but don't know if they're the same.

  • @TwoFootedMan yh pal there the same

  • This video really helped me thanks a lot for posting this video. Your camera was really good witch helped me see better. Another reason why this video is great is because you explained every step fanatic.

  • Nice video, very good detail, Thanks!

  • How many 360s do u hav, can I hav one

  • do you have to use smd led? i cant find them in any stores and i dont want to go the usual "get it on ebay" or online bc i had a bad experience ordering something online...any advice on what stores would actually carry these bad boys in stock? tried radioshack and to my surpise no dice lol

  • we used soldiering iron for something cant remmeber

  • aint dis sad

  • I want to change my led ring colour on my console but i have no one to do it for me. Very good video mate keep it up.

  • that soder stuff like jell is what messes u up.

  • @RetroGameTech

why dont you use a tweezers ??

  • Yeah i'm not going to lie, there's no way this is 360p, you have an AWESOME camera guy!

  • straight up king shit. Awesome vid man

  • does modding the ring on the xbox360 ban you from xbox live?

  • @miniman27100 no as it's not like internall modding like usb it's just making it look cooler

  • why does the led have to placed on its side?

  • Hi I love your video but you said something which got my attention you said electronic solder or something is that like a different type of solder like can I just use normal solder please comment back.

  • Could you just buy a new board with lights installed

  • thank you so much for this tutorial! I love the blue LEDs in the elite 360...looks very sexy!

  • 2 things, 1 sick vids man, and 2 can you use those leds for just inside the case, or show us how

  • thank god its not a fuzzy tutorial again

  • may i ask why you solder the LEDs on their side ?

  • @MrOzzySan because the light shines inward and not outward like they do on the controller. if you were to solder them laying flat, you probably wouldbt be able to see any light coming from the LEDs, maybe you would see very minimal light. they are all on the side except for the middle light! hope this helped!

  • Awesome clear tut mate :D

  • i cant find it man, can you help me out plz, i tried amazon and ebay

  • @rafbendiaz hey dude check out Extreme - Mods . com and or Rapid modz . com Good luck! And don't forget to order a T8 screwdriver with you order or you will not be able to open your controller

  • @PLANB4454 thankyou a lot dude, really

  • @rafbendiaz, yah man, no problem, tell me how it turns out for you :)

  • Some people should not be allowed to do SMD soldering....

  • A lot better than my technique, I'm not really good at soldering but I have a few modded consoles and I never used flux. Anyways u should get self locking tweezers they save me SO much time

  • @electrosingh24 On ebay just put rol xbox 360 and you'll find it.

  • what kind of led do you use? is it 0603 or 0805?

  • @Anthony96922 0603

  • Is it 0603 or 0604 led i dident hear good

  • your veins made me squirm :S great video!

  • Lol 1:45 i thought he was holding the Solder like :O

  • Hey, I tried this with my left over SMD 603 LEDs and it dident seem to work... i maganged to get the orginal one back to work but i was wonmdering if it was the LED not working or im doing somthing Wrong... PLZ help

  • All done looks awesome thanks for the help

  • hey, i desoldered them and everything works find, but i didnt use soldering paste, do i HAVE to?

  • 2 people cant do this mod :)

  • Great quality!! What camera are you using?

  • im subscribing just because this video was clear and easy to understand :)

  • Great job! Much better than any I've seen. Very descriptive and in depth. Thanks :)

  • What would happen if you got the LEDs that the xbox came with and you somehow flipped the LED around so it would be the red ring of light and the green ring of death? Is is possible or do you have to buy separate LEDS?

  • This is like the only video that explains in depth, thanks

  • thanks its still funy everytime my friends have the noob green and i have the cool blue thanks mate

  • Hey when I try to test if the lights are working none of them come on even the factory green ones

  • Dude please tell me where you got the clamp!?

  • Could another single colour led be used on the unused soldering point, connecting to the same negative to allow error codes to show?

  • 1 guy has no knob

  • Comment removed

  • wer do u buy the led lights and how much r they

  • Comment removed

  • can i do this even without a jtag? what would happen and why with a jtag?

  • on ebay just look up xbox 360 rf module and yu can buy custom ones premade

  • You Sound Like Soap MacTavish

  • will you do a vid on the dvd remote?

  • This is quite difficult, due to teh size of teh leds!

  • can i do the same thing you did but on the leds on the xbox controler?!

  • can you use tinning flux instead of soldering paste

  • I find that a pair of tweasers works better for handling those littile parts, there are some good plastic ones out there too.

  • NICE, i Mod everything with LEDs dude..i need to make a vid with my wii and 360..

  • can you ad a 2ed led for the red one

  • At what temp are yu heated at? my soldering iron profession i think i should be at 600-700f?

  • how long did it take you to do all that??? need to know message me on my yourtube page thankx

  • Thank u so much for showing us how to do this it really helped i did this a hour ago

  • omg i have the exact same screwdriver

  • Thanks haha i might try this sometime :)

  • how much for a jtag

  • very very nice man,but can you get banned from xbox live for doing this?

  • @TheBL00DAssassin How would you get banned from live? Microsoft don't track LED's.

  • @Westw00do ohh ok thanks for telling me :)

  • @Westw00do that would of been fucked up if yu did though

  • I found the paste unnecessary when I did mine. Good video though.

  • ive done other 100+ of these mods, please check out my channel and comment, I can do a RF board with primary and secondary colour in about 10mins now, this video is very detailed and of course is done by a pro

  • this guy had way too many time on his hands

  • @ki11aunis24 This coming from a guy trolling YouTube.

  • @RetroGameTech great video mate!! this is perfectly clear and shows the whole process :) btw if you solder the green negative to the red negative it will flash blue when red ringed as well

  • @RetroGameTech are the console LEDs the same as the controller LEDs?

  • @ki11aunis24 what??? it doesn't exactly take a long time to do.........

  • @ki11aunis24 I guess your the one person to dislike this?

  • @ki11aunis24 why would you KNOWINGLY click on a video titled: Xbox 360 Ring Of Light Colour Mod - Tutorial, then complain that he has "too many time" on his hands? go watch justin beiber swing his hair out of his face every 5 seconds

  • @ki11aunis24 Well good sir, you obviously do not have much time on your hands...as you cannot take the time to learn proper english :O)

  • @ki11aunis24 you have no life. i did this mod on my controller and it took me like 20 minutes...

  • you can make red ring of death!!! To green Color :D:D

  • great quality camera man, good job

  • Ya that's how people who don't know what their doing break their xbox

  • Be sure to use a surgical mask while soldering those fumes are terrible.

  • brilliant i watched this video and i was about to buy all the parts to change my ROL but then i noticed you can buy them already modified from ebay so i just bought that but thanks alot your video was insightful

  • What soldering paste is that? It's really good!

  • so helpful for an amateur like myself. Thank you!

  • badass. been thinkin bout doin' this just wasn't quite sure how. great vid =D

  • were can i buy purple lights but the blue looks sick to

  • @xTHExSTIGx ur right they

  • can you also do u video on how to change the controller lights

  • Cool, + I have a Spare ROL board from my friends RROD Xbox he gave me.

  • u the man mate

  • will ur xbox brake if the thing gets wet or can u just wipe it off??

    please msg bck thankz

  • Thanks for the awesome guide. When I did my 360 controller I didn't have tweezers, flux or or a small enough screwdriver and I lost 2/10 of them on the carpet. Tricky things those 0603's!!

What power soldering iron would you recommend?

  • THIS IS DEFINITELY WORTH DOING!!! AWESOME VIDEO!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!

  • This is definitely not worth doing.... But cool video!

  • @xTHExSTIGx I've lost so many of them in the past just from breathing in the wrong direction while soldering, lol. Fiddly as hell too!

  • @RetroGameTech me too LOL i now that feeling! using treezers and *ping* where the fuck did that go! alot of people state the SMD 0603 can only go one way but there are 2 RF boards and on the board in the video is the old version of RF board as you see the - + arrow under the smd and on the newer version you can see a tiny white dot at one side of the smd and that white dot is the negative side (where the arrow on the SMD should point) but of course u already knew this and this comment is 4 evy1

  • @stevenagebenwhite the above comment was in regards to controller pad ring of light not the RF board I was very tired when I wrote this, the RF board only has 1 set of - and + follow the same way all the way around

  • @RetroGameTech lol that made me laugh :]

your pretty good bro.. keep it up

  • @RetroGameTech What size are they? Like in mm xD?

  • Great video mate, nice to see someone who know's what they are doing with soldering close up. Never knew what the flux was for either so now I know, thanks!

  • @remixnick Thanks. Yeah flux makes these types of jobs 10x easier.

  • nice tutorial, how did you do the remote, the same way would be if you could do a video showing it.

  • @ArcadeMameMachine The media remote is done in the same way. But the difference is the remote has 19!!! LEDs inside to desolder and replace. Not so much fun, lol

  • @RetroGameTech Microsoft would sell more console and accessories if the did them with blue LED's instead of green.

  • great tut

  • @HomebrewCentral thanks!

  • Would the same leds work in a controller or are they a different size?

  • @jakebrickhouse Yes they work fine in controllers too. I've used them in the HD-DVD drive, media remote, controller, camera etc :)

  • If you wanted to retain the error lite ability, would you just put a second color LED on the other positive and just share the ground contact? I'm assuming the other large pad is the positive for the error circuit? Nice mod, I like the detail of your videos :)

  • @woodengamer Guess I should read the other comments before I ask a question :) you already answered the same question from Patrikw25. oops :) still a great mod video though!

  • @woodengamer Lol, and I just replied to it then saw this post :P. But yeah, it's a weird layout which makes adding the error LED a real pain.

  • @woodengamer No, sadly not as easy as that. See the other comment I replied to ;) Common positive.

  • dam thats awesome!!! i hate solderign though, i'm a lazy american i'd rather pay somebody to do all that for me hahahahha, i have The MW2 360 and a blue ring of light would be epic!

  • @HaxAras Thanks. Hahaha, I used to do this for extra cash when I was in college. You're not the only person who doesn't like soldering and would rather pay someone else to do it for them.

I'm kinda addicted to putting blue LEDs in all my stuff, lol. Looks cool.

  • @RetroGameTech hahahaha i love blue led's, i have an extra HDD Case I Wanna Mod, I Subbed to you Because i loved your HDD mod, so i wanna try one like it. i need proper tools though, i'd pay you 25$ + Shipping if you could mod mine sometime?

  • @HaxAras I forgot to say, I can sell you the one from this vid if you like? Just drop me a PM if you're interested.

  • @RetroGameTech What wattage is you soldering iron? I'm been looking into getting one and wanted to know what is the best type to get.

  • are both left and rigth contact positive on the wireless bord ??

  • @patrikw25 No. It's a weird setup where only the left contact pad is positive. The other 2 are negative. That's the reason you can't easily solder another LED into the spot where the error light is supposed to be. It can be done with extra wiring but it's super fiddly and not worth the extra effort IMO. But to answer your question, no.

  • @RetroGameTech thanks for your answer :)

  • lol cool i should like give you my laptop and make it have a led backlit keyboard :D

  • Great tut mate thanks helped alot

i think your epic love your vids

    keep up great work :)
