@Steelfalcon22: Please read a popular article on this model at a link in this video description. In the model, complete reversal took only 1,000 years to complete. However, keep in mind that this is only a model. It predicts long term behavior of Earth magnetic field quite well, but geological record does not have enough resolution to recover such short transients of only few thousand years. The order of units or tens of thousands of years seems very plausible, however.
at 0:10 on the "surface of the earth" simulation, it looks like ying and yang :D, how cool wouldn't it be if this was "lost knowledge" :P

does anyone know how fast this will probably be?

@Steelfalcon22 "the whole reversal process completes in less than a thousand years."

@Steelfalcon22 I heard 4 years for it to complete the reversal, it started in 2010 as far as i know, so late 2013 should be well into reversal

@sumstuff46 "I heard" who off? Your mate? And based on what evidence? None will be the answer. There is no evidence of an imminent reversal.

@Huttate1 and no evidence of it NOT happening either silly :)
small stuff to worry about until it happens, if it does that is, don't be an asshole
