I would like some people to stop to create perpetual opposition between "Trad path" and "by-ear-path". My God! We are not enemies, you know?
And, at the same time, would you say about Basie, Waller, Ellington, etc... that they were not musicians just because they were able to write or read Music???
Reading music does'nt pretend to be the "only-way" to be a musician. This is what certain bitter an depressive teachers pretend...you just have to pay no attention to them, that's all!
@madameve I just downloaded the update to the app and went to look at the new feature of being able to download the PDFs of the course but only saw a sample PDF of basically the same information you have in this video... Where are the Books?
My piano teacher could do both read and play by ear, but she was more a of a singer than piano player. I wanted to play Jazz and Blues. I learned the Blues out of a lesson book but I had a passion for the music so I learned a lot of of tricks and licks on my own. I did the same with Jazz Music. You have to listen to music to play music..lol! There are pros and cons to ear playing and sight reading! Practice BOTH and you'll what my teacher called a "well rounded" musician!!
But seriously there are tons of books out there for beginners... They should really start there and then work their way up to this stuff... It really won't take long at all... I'd say a good 6 to 8 months of really digging into a good beginner course or even lessons. I know I just ranted about teachers not teaching... But teachers are great for total beginners just not anyone else above that... Then come back to this course once you understand how to spell chords, what intervals are... What a s
Its 1000 times harder to go from Intermediate to Advanced than it is to go from Beginner to Intermediate... partly because most educational media are geared to beginners in the first place because there is more money to be made there. On top of that... Just as they point out here most really good musicians / teachers are extremely selfish and stingy and DON'T teach the good stuff... If you take lessons they aren't going to teach you how to play piano... They teach you how to play songs by telli
@disnukka79 I agree but also note that threre are teachers out there who are in the same situation in that "THEY CAN ONLY READ MUSIC...." So don't stay with them too long..... get the basics and then get rid of them.......
@Pleasure1964 I dont know why companies that sell music education books / DVDs / software etc... Always feel that they have to market themselves to the lowest common denominator. The truth is... Yes you are most likely going to need to have a small working level of knowledge about music and or piano to be able to get the most out of this course. I would assume you are probably going to need to be a least an advanced beginner or MOST LIKELY an intermediate level of ability and knowledge of music
Blah Blah Blah Yada Yada, it aint necessarily so, if u have no experience on the piano, what so ever? yeah right! I've bought a couple products to test the waters, It "taint" gon happen as easily as that, fanciful at best, fraudulent? At the least, the amazing claims are tickling that ivory. I'm not saying it want work and doesn't have some tremendous info. But,good luck going from never having played to,more than just being able to digest his basic info in those weeks he implied, creativity.
