@Aphradonis ...the transhumanist and futurist communities, there is a shocking dearth of understanding of how much impact the metaverse will have by midcentury and certainly in the next century. @Aphradonis Thanks for your comments! Obviously, in a strictly time-controlled presentation it's not possible to address detail and nuance :) Please do email me - cindyatifwerantheworlddotcom - or I would be very happy to discuss this by phone or Skype - many thanks.
You neglected to even mention the metaverse until the last few seconds, yet the metaverse invalidates the sum total of your presentation. In the 22nd century, humanity will have transcended virtual reality and moved into simulated reality and synthetic reality. Thus there will no longer be any reason to live in realspace, and in the metaverse, everyone is a billionaire, indeed, a trillionaire - each individual will her own private solar systems, not to mention trivial mansions and objects.
@Aphradonis People will try to keep certain creations to themselves, but the only way to do that will be to never show said creations to anyone else - by simply taking a cursory inworld visual scan, anyone will be able to instantly reproduce the photonic creations of anyone else. Attempts to prevent this will be defeated by software hacking and undefeatable hardware capture devices, akin to the physical capture cards of today which totally ignore software encryption such as HDCP by physically...
@uncompromising34 Interesting. I use the term 'new world order' a lot, but had no idea about this particular angle on it until I Wikipedia'd your comment :)
Cindy, given that capitalism is responsible for weapons dealing, sex trafficking, global warming, the collapsing fish stocks, empathyless business execs ad nauseum, I am disturbed that you would waste that great mind on worrying about the experiences of disgustingly wealthy. Perhaps you ought take a look at Sheryl WuDunn's talk on TEDTalks.
I have to say this is shocking in contrast with your humanistic talk about porn!
@TheGodlessGuitarist Actually, just to clarify, alongside my startup ventures IfWeRanTheWorld and MakeLoveNotPorn, I work as a marketing consultant. You should also know that in the marketing world the term 'luxury' embraces a very wide range of brands and products (the cosmetics and skincare found in department stores are known as 'luxury', for example), the spectrum of which was represented in the audience at this particular conference. This talk was designed to help them.
@cindygallop "I work as a marketing consultant...This talk was designed to help them."
I fail to see how your comment addresses the fact that you are contributing to the next generation of decadence at a time when humanity is only a few short years away from decimation by energy crisis and, hot on it's heels, the impact of climate change. Are you trying to say being paid for it makes it not count?
That response has the hallmarks of a depleted of faith preacher with no clue what to do next.

@TheGodlessGuitarist Not at all. I was just explaining that 'luxury' in the context of this audience applies to lipsticks as much as the upper end of the spectrum :) Interestingly, my own work with luxury brands has allowed me to bring social responsibility into the discussions to do what I can in my own small way to ensure they too operate as businesses of the future, to do good at the same time as making money.
@cindygallop "my own work with luxury brands has allowed me to bring social responsibility..."
Well, no doubt your sentiments are sincere, but you'll understand my skepticism. Given that 'marketing' is just the positive spin the 'marketing' culture puts on commercial narcissism, I find such sentiments somewhat wanting of integrity.
Clearly that leaves you with much to do to persuade me, though that is unlikely to be much cause for concern to anyone.
@2008Raw2008 My apologies for taking 6 months to respond to you - had no idea till someone tweeted this that it was on here :) I was speaking at a conference to a group of luxury brand marketers, ranging from luxury beauty products (proportionately lower in cost but still super expensive) all the way to goods of the kind you mention, and so this talk was aimed at how they need to market (yes Louis Vuitton salespeople need to pay the rent too :))
@2008Raw2008 Please do message me privately on here, or you can email me at cindyatifwerantheworlddotcom - very happy to discuss further (can also do this on phone or Skype if you prefer). Many thanks.
ROARING RESPECTS!
