While this would hurt the US, it would hurt china much more. We would experience have a difficult time, but our economy would eventually be better off than before, while china would be broke. Additionally, if more jobs were stateside, then we would be able to wage war more effectively.

China has found promising prospects in Africa and they of course have trading partners in Europe and Asia. China's world trade has increased by about 400% from 1995 to 2005. They also export more than than they import from the US putting China in a surplus position.

Not to mention America's 630 billion dollar trade deficit. China isn't the only one they owe either, Japan and the UK are also major holders of treasury securities. If the US decides to not pay up, it will only devastate them. Personally, I don't think war is a realistic option for either country, now or any time in the near future.

@cr9527 I assume your talking about th deal to sell hummer to the chinese by GM. that only included the H1 and H3 which were base on gm chassis. the H1 is owned by A&M general and was not a part of the deal.
