In 1963, at 12, I was privileged to have been her busboy while she dined at the Benson Hotel's trader Vic's (Portland, Ore). So kind and personable, when serving her after dinner coffee, she asked me what my nationality was (English-Welsh-German) and thenjokingly-lovingly called me her "little Welsh boy". Even at my age, i could tell she was a most caring and loving person, regardless of how terribly she'd been treated early on in her career. Rest in peace, my world class sweet heart.
@uuguru How fortunate are you to possess such a memory. It's a long way down from Lena Horne and Duke Ellington to wha we have now. Recollecting Lady Lena and The Duke (not Wayne) inspires us back to the best within us.
Classic beauty, talent, style and elegance.... they don't make them like that any more.

I always loved Ella's version, but this has an intersting swing to it...Lena sounds good, even in her golden years.

This recording is from 1988, when she was (believe it or not) 71 years old. It's on her album that came out that year, "The Men In My Life."
