i know i am late to the conversation but regardless of the notes he brings such a presence to a stage that shinedown has some of the best concerts to date.I was at this one in particular and let me tell you I will remember this night as one of the best in my life... Brent is a pure man of rock and will always live on as one of the greatest artists of his time.
@ToolPride Another idiot not aware of the notes Brent has pulled off, even throughout THIS year...people saying his voice is getting worse, and that he´s not able to pull off any of his own songs anymore. Heard the version of "Save me" in the carnival of madness, listen to the extreme F5 he reaches there or "with a little help from my friends" - Kansas city/2011... Not talking about lip sinc like the chorus of "I dare you" or some shit like that... He´s an amazing vocalist. Dontshitonyourownleg.
i will agree with you on the fact that it would seem like a dissapointment at first, but considering how high those notes are i would prefer he undercut them then blow out his voice on stage.
actually Brent can hit the notes, but you got to understand that night after night takes a toll on your voice and you can't do it every single night without some vocal rest. That is a fact.

If they can't sing their songs live they really need to tone it down on their CDs. I understand that bands are trying to get the fullest sound possible, but when they can't hit the notes on tour it only leads to disappointment. Learn a realistic range guys!
Great for a live performance, but the general trend of bands is to release CDs where they sound like vocal gods, then get up on stage and undercut the high notes. To me I feel like I get cheated whenever I hear someone singing a note 3 pitches lower than what it sounded like on CD. Even bands I love do this... All That Remains being one of the more prominent ones. I'm not saying this isn't the trend of every band throughout history, I just thought I would make my case.
Yeah, I mean I absolutely love this band, and I understand that hitting these notes can take a toll on your voice, but why not release a CD with vocals you can actually sing live? Then when you go to the concert you aren't distracted by it, and afterward you can say "Wow they sound just like they do on CD!"
The best example I can think of is Breaking Benjamin. They sing live just like they sing on CD, and it's definitely to their advantage.
