I prefer using 3/16 x 1" rivets from Paddlers Supply. They have a silicone seal on them which minimizes leaking. Just make sure you push down against the holder as you compress the rivet with your rivet tool. This will ensure the rivet engages the inside of the boat.

What is the length and size of the rivets you are using? Im currently adding these rod holders to my tarpon 140.
