  • Read this interview of Agalloch's guitarist: heavymetal.about.com/od/interviews/a/Agalloch-Interview.htm He said he is a literature teacher!

  • intro makes me thing about life and it's purpose, about my life, and my meaning, about nature, makes me tear :')

  • @yoshmog

    O-O!!!! REALLY?!?!

I was wondering why everybody was quoting you.

  • Agalloch is something wonderful, i love this band and this music. For me this is masterpiece!

  • I would love to hear this song without vocals.

  • Where do you get the pictures for all these videos? I love them!

  • Why do people care what genre of metal this is? its just good music. sit back and enjoy

  • "Winter is coming"

  • You have to understand that this is American black metal with pagan/folk elements.

The spiritual/nature quality is essential to their sound and is why--unlike a lot of other bands--so many people feel connected to Agalloch's music.

  • @mrsolofeo sorry, this isn't black metal. at all. It has black metal influences, mostly in the vocals, which to be honest are more death metal than black metal. But all the chords and guitar tone and drums are post-metal. None of this sounds like Mayhem, or Behemoth, or Darkthrone. Some of the guitar parts sound a bit like Burzum on Filosofem, but only a bit; even at their blackest, they sound much more like Pelican or a really chill Amon Amarth song.

  • @pbyshelley Thanks for the info--indeed, you are probable more knowledgeable about black metal than I am. But for me and a lot of others, we consider this to be black metal--Agalloch just expands on the black metal formula with their own progressive/folk elements.

I got into black metal listening to Burzum and Darkthrone--but I don't try to pigeon-hole bands into a narrow genre because metal encompasses a lot of styles and influences--I basically listen to what I like.

  • @mrsolofeo i suggest you give "moonsorrow" a try. jotunheim is a wicked tune.

  • @OmeguhNanashi Will do.

  • This definitely doesn't feel like most american metal, its something to be expected from a european band, from somewhere like fennoscandia. Portland seems like a cool place, must be why my uncle moved there lol

  • @Chrisy862 Oregon has incredible natural beauty. I'm very grateful to live there.

  • Everyone from Metalheads, to Hipsters to the average normal person love this band. They just make great music.

  • best baby making music

  • @bushpigification i beg to differ. As much as i love agalloch, look up Remy Shand-Everlasting. THAT is the defenition if baby making music

  • The best thing to ever come out of my hometown.

  • The Pure Winter Metal

  • amazing amazing amazing this is the meaning of a well composed song.

  • beast

  • Excellent quality. I've just discovered this band. Always figured them to be a really "trv/kult" black metal band, just because of the name I guess. Don't get me wrong, I like black metal, but this really is a pleasant surprise. As the dude up there said, their really is something very spiritual and philosophical about this music.

  • 3:57 Orgasm!

  • I wish I could meet these guys. Theyre from portland OR which is where I live haha.

  • Dunno why, but I recognise a bit of This Will Destroy You in this song... and I like it :D

  • this is just true art

  • I listened to this song about a year ago...I didn't know Agalloch before that moment...it changed my life, it opened me another world...

  • @mirkomcbrain94

Same with me... I first got this album last January, and I was driving home listening to it on a cold, desolate, rainy day with a gray sky. The music fit so perfectly, and since that day, I never looked at music the same way again.

  • how the fuck could you dislike this song?

  • all hail from Ukraine!!

  • Only 9:52? I DEMAND LONGER.

  • so beautiful music.. i don't know what to say..

  • Agalloch makes it hard for me to find pleasure in songs of other bands. They just have such perfect songs, melodies, rhythm and vocals... it's just amazing! I could live the rest of my life listening only to Agalloch \m/

  • the intro is epic!

  • memories

  • the vocals are fucking awesome. ahaha

  • Gonna have to agree about the vocals, but I love the instrumental to death.

  • Thank you !!!!!Un de mes groupes favoris!!!!j'adore !!!! i love Agalloch !!!!!!!

  • the drums sound ehhhhhh

  • check out celestial seasons if you guys dig this! agolloth is still unique though

  • The guitarist for this band is my english teacher. Holy shit.

  • @yoshmog LOL wut? Get him to sign a cd.

  • @yoshmog That's fuckin' awesome.... this is my favorite band, you're so lucky!:P

  • @yoshmog Holy shit! Awesome! I'm sure you are honored listening to this! He must be really cool!

  • @yoshmog wat.

    seriously?

  • @yoshmog NOT UH!?! :O

  • @yoshmog Are you for real? So jelly right now :(

  • @yoshmog Your shitting me, are you legit?

  • @darklord2626 Agalloch guitarist Don Anderson is or was recently a grad student at Univeristy of Washington. While finishing his dissertation in English Literature he also taught undergraduate classes. This is one reason why Agalloch has until recently done only limited touring. Singer Greg Graffin of Bad Religion teaches Biology at UCLA. I love both bands.

  • @yoshmog FUCK! You are one lucky motherfucker!

  • @yoshmog You're lucky!

  • @yoshmog seems legit, I checked and Don Anderson actually does teach english lit. Lucky bastard.

  • @yoshmog :motherofgod: you are a fucking lucky XD

  • @yoshmog Anderson is an English teacher?

  • @mamaluigi4293 Yeah, he teaches English at a university in Washington.

  • @MultiPosts Crap, I used to live in Washington. I ought to move back!

  • @yoshmog Prove it.

  • @yoshmog really?

  • @yoshmog this is the COOLEST thing ever.

  • @yoshmog is he really ur English teacher or is this a joke... i really wana know 0_0

  • @yoshmog I take it he does a lot of the writing as well then? Maybe no,t but they are very deep and the vocabulary is very deep as well.. either way, that's awesome man. As a guitarist and a lover of the English language, I would be honored to have him as my teacher!

  • @yoshmog luckier !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @yoshmog

    What?

    Are you serious?

I wish I was from Portland now.

  • Man, I thought the vocals were going to be lame because of the comments below...Vocals are appropriate & Black metal. All is good.

  • Many drunken walks were had while listening to this song

    Cheers to Agalloch!

  • I really enjoy Agalloch. But I would enjoy them exponentially more if they were instrumental only and cut the vocals. Yeah, I said it.

  • Sad, you had me up until the vocals, other than that amazing musical texture and composition.

  • American black metal. I am very much impressed by the sound. It holds all the emotional quality of something I would expect to come out of Norway or Sweden. Yet it has the musical skill and composition of something from England or, what is true in this case, the USA.

  • This and Callisto produce some of the most amazing builds and peaks in post-metal history that I've ever heard. Amazing job.

  • Excelente melodia de esta gran banda

  • @Elizarockmetal VERDADERAMENTE ES UN EXELENTE CACION D ESTA BANDA...SHINGONAMENTE IMPRESIONANTE..

  • This band is so cold feeling, like this just makes me feel like I am standing in the middle of Alaska with nothing on but a t-shirt and jeans

  • For similar mood and atmosphere, check out OUR LAST DAY ON EARTH

  • I love these guys, from Portland, Oregon. My home state :)

    I miss Oregon :(

  • I still can't believe they're american. it's been like three years.

  • @KSCIAA You showed me Katatonia. You showed me Opeth. You showed me Ulver. You showed me Novembre. Now I discovered Agalloch.

I used to like rap, but the second I saw one of your videos I thought, "Fuck rap, this shit is fucking awesome!" Thank you for showing me these awesome bands! I hope I discover some more through you.

  • I own all of Agalloch's Studio Albums. Their music is just so beautiful. Easily one of my favorite metal bands ever.

  • that's it, thats all folks!

  • 3:25 epic.

  • Where were you when all direction left my face and the eyes bore holes on yesteryears nigh, you were hear as i lay dormant, so much wasted time...don't ever change

  • i was actually getting pretty bored in the beginning tho is was beautiful, then the song grew into a melodic black metal masterpiece

  • I feel ashamed. I live in the same city as these guys and ive never need them play once

  • 6:37 to 6:41 Has to be the sickest death scream I've ever heard.

  • @sLuuugZz check out Anthelion - Snake Corpse the scream is by far the the best ive ever hear

  • The lyrics are so intense as well

  • Beautiful song, And @KSCIAA you never fail to impress me with your photo's! Especially with Woods of Ypres' Songs! I hope you always are an agalloch fan, because they literally changed my life, Anyways just thank you for this music. -Henry

  • i remember when i first heard this song... it was amazing,,,, it was on that s it that s all.... and this song ..and all album is like drug..recovering good memories in winter

  • this song is special....it is for everyone.....hail from romania agalloch

  • picture is beautiful

  • My religion !, this song plays you so well, plays the listener, how is it possible to compose genius like this??????!!

  • fucking...beautiful...

  • If I suspect Agalloch material is being stolen and used in another song... how should I inform them? The song "Departure" by Nero at 2:54 is EXACTLY the same as the beginning of this song... it's a good song, but I mean, I don't want Agalloch songs being used without permission.

  • @kennyinheaven this a joke right

  • I perfer my metal to be with meaning, not crap like metallica and slipknot

  • This is awesome stuff really

  • Man i have a'lot of respect for bands like this. LONG LIVE METAL!

  • Agalloch is one of those bands, that I discovered way too late in my life. I wish I would have known about them 10 years ago. Stunning!!

  • heard this on "that's it that's all" and i'm very happy i did :)

  • Reminds me of the Joker theme on The Dark Knight. Epic and powerful, this track will surely go down strongly the halls of time and stride where other metal songs fall proudly.

  • @thatisnotmyproblem What are you talking about? If this was the most famous band to ever exist, I would still love their music. I don't care about whether a band is popular or not; it just so happens that most popular music in America is terrible and made for money rather than self-expression.

  • For Americans, they sound downright European and I mean that in a very positive way!

  • I miss snow so much

  • I really really find it annoying that the picture keeps going blurry and rendering ever 3 seconds

  • this is incredible, normally i would not like the vocals but the sheer beauty of the instrumentals, and considering how well the vocals fit the atmosphere, i dont mind them...cheers to the band!

  • This band is so good i can't describe it, truly amazing songs and so good yet so different in many ways which is good :D Agalloch, you ROCK!

  • Wow, very good, I'll check them out.

  • The fact that this is still listened to despite the popularity of shit like Katy Perry says a lot about modern society. This is one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • Nice band, but i dont like that singer's voice, but what ever :D

  • they are coming to my country for a show -I stil can't believe I will see them on live!!!

  • @prisonersdilemma666

    jealous much >=[

  • @umklaus1

take a flight to Israel in November and see them two, if you will do that I will give you some adivses for trips, and nice places to see.

  • Agalloch is the greatest Post Rock/Dark Folk band ever...

  • Hahaha MGMT is in the suggestions.

  • M'infondi di magia nordica...

    un suono che incendia l'acqua

  • Fu. After all that I missed a comma. Wake, Skagos, ect.

  • That didn't work as well as I'd hoped. Sounds like you're looking for cascadian. Wake Skagos, Panopticon, Weakling, Alda, Ash Borer, Leech, Fauna, Fell Voices, Wolves in the Throne Room. More black metal: Burzum, Darkthrone, Austkrigar.

  • Loving the picture.

  • no offence but i think these lyrics would sound better if sang by some epic church choir...

  • These guys have the capability of incorporating ANY atmosphere in their music. Just beautiful...

  • my friend is really into black metal and dbm and im more into a bit of everything from chillwave to hardcore punk and can never find a black metal band that i really liked but this just fixed that :D

  • @greens618 You should check out Drudkh, album Microcosmos, then go from there if you get into it at all. But definitely try the album Songs of Grief and Solitude even if you don't like the heavier stuff.

Anyway, +1 to you for taste. This is by far the best band I've checked out this month. Peace.

  • @abortedlord Hi, sorry for intruding but I checked Drudkh as well and I was just blown away the very second I heard them. Are there any other bands you recommend? My story's the same as the other guy, I don't know a whole bunch of black metal bands but I would love to get to know more!

  • @D4mnShadows Sounds like you're looking for cascadian. Wake Skagos Panopticon Weakling Alda Ash Borer Leech Fauna Fell Voices Wolves in the Throne Room More black metal: Burzum Darkthrone Austkrigar
  • @TH3PR0D1GY Thank you so much :D

  • @D4mnShadows get a last.fm account. it will help you discover all sorts of great music and meet people with similar tastes

  • @D4mnShadows Oh yeah man; Burzum for one. The guy is a bit of a racist but that doesn't really come up in the music, dunno if that'd bother you. Then there's Ulver, and Lunar Aurora. These are all mostly on the atmospheric side, like this band. Best song ever by Lunar Aurora is definitely Findling

For more of a chainsaw sound ( heh ), Curse you all men, and I am the black Wizards, by Emperor are great songs, then At the Heart of Winter by Immortal. Also Carving a Giant by Gorgoroth.

  • @D4mnShadows And then there's a few weird bands. If you can find this; search blogs for "Age of Retrogression" by Bohemian Grove. Then there's a band called Katatonia. Their first few albums are serious black metal, but then they kinda veer into this weird genere-on-their-own hybrid of black metal and like, alternative music. I find it quite good for the most part, but their most recent albums fall off a bit.

Hope this helps you find something you like.

  • @abortedlord whoa thats pretty good! and yea I just recently discovered Katatonia, I love the vocals, He sounds like maynard from tool which is a plus in my book =D

  • @D4mnShadows If you haven't heard Last Fair Deal Gone Down yet, I'd suggest that from Katatonia. Probably my favorite album of theirs. Brave Murder Day is awesome too; that album is like somewhere between what they do now, and what they did before. It's a very unique experience in my opinion.

Another odd band is Primordial, they have all different kinds of black metal in their discography but the kicker is that it's inspired by the Celts; you can hear it in many of the songs.

  • @greens618

I know plenty of people who aren't metalheads at all and love Agalloch. I know some people who like them and I would have never expected them to.

  • is amazing this song :D

  • My friend, this song is so powerful. On the edge of the universe....

  • great wrighting

  • Awesome lyrics

  • As a tech-death fan it's refreshing to listen to a band like agalloch because their only concern is with atmosphere and song-writing. They could care less about showing off their musicianship they just want to writing fantastically composed simple songs and thats something that the metal genre seems to be missing lately. If your looking for something similiar thats not metal check out

GodSpeed You! Black Emperor, a great post-rock band that many of you may have heard of already.

  • @yaroslav64 GY!BE are probably my favourite band! A Silver MT Zion are great too.

  • @redcommando1 "He has left us alone but shafts of light sometimes grace the corners of our rooms" Is one of the best post-rock records ever created.

  • @yaroslav64 I love that album! especially "For Wanda" that song is beautiful.

  • @yaroslav64 Ive notived a new wave of bands that are more about technical ability then actual song writing skill. While thats great and all those kinds of songs arent usually the ones that stand the test of time. Thats why bands like Morbid Angel will never die because they play incredibly well written death metal. Lots of new garbage that's all about fast playing and constant blast beats and it kinda bores me.

  • @yaroslav64 agreed agalloch has fuckin soul

Godspeedyou!black emporor is jokes man. i love em'

my brother showed them to me a long time ago

  • @yaroslav64

F#A# (infinity) and Lift Your Skinny Fists are absolute masterpieces.

    GY!BEfist

  • @yaroslav64 xuse me wtf is tech-death?

  • @Octavice ..........TECHnical DEATHmetal?

  • @YouDumbZombie aha.... Now I now exactly what you mean. Its just like proto post death in singularis.

  • @yaroslav64 Its funny, through their writing for composition and atmosphere, they truely show off their musicianship in its purest form.

  • @MARCELINO8888 They all apologized - you have 28 thumbs up.

  • The fact that shit like Katy Perry is widely listened to and masterpieces like this are so obscure says a lot about modern society. This is one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • @aarongtr180 to be honest, it's shit like Justin Beiber and 50 cent. Katy Perry's actually pretty good.

  • @Jalanko13 No. No, she's really not. "California Gurls" has literally some of the worst songwriting and lyrics I've ever heard.

  • @aarongtr180 not everyone can appriciate metal, exactly like not everyone can appriciate Matisse or Van Gogh

  • @aarongtr180 unfortunately today you must have great boobs to be widely listened :\

  • @aarongtr180 Well said my brother. What sad times indeed.

  • @aarongtr180 It's the fact they are so obscure which makes them more precious to smart people who manage to reach this magnificent tunes by their own intelligence.

  • @aarongtr180

Katy Perry is the absolute WORST singer I have ever heard in my life.

  • @ProgHead93 i known but she has a nice tits :)

  • @wachaoz

I have seen her picture and she is ugly as hell. I am not impressed with her boobs. Anyway, somebody shouldn't be given a record deal just for how big their boobs are. Oh yeah, I forgot, this is America...

  • @aarongtr180 I like Katy Perry. I like Allagoch. I like Daath. I like Ingested. I like Slipknot.

    Shit means nothing.

  • @hybridharris There's a difference between music notes arranged in a pattern and music that is art. When I said "shit", I meant music that doesn't have, and was not meant to have, any meaning or value, such as Katy Perry.

  • @aarongtr180 Well if that's what you think, fine. Dosen't make it fact though.

  • @aarongtr180 mmm Katy Perry is hot as shit... but yeah I see what you're saying.

  • @DivinityOfDoom Even if she's hot, is she going to be your wife or what? You waste your time.

  • @UandMeRacoons That would be fucking awesome.

  • @aarongtr180 i hear that.this music has a soul, were most if not all pop shit has none.

  • @aarongtr180 i enjoy katy perry's music as much as i enjoy agalloch and other similar bands

i grew up on old school rap and r&b then go into metal (maiden, priest, manowar, metallica) then went on into heavier death metal stuff..then black metal..darkthrone, old dimmu..abigor..marduk and so on, but my love for music and my huuuge open mind let me enjoy all these pop artist, perry, wayne, even that fucker beiber lol

but my heart belongs to black metal! check out some of my own personal recordings

  • @aarongtr180 yeah, but she has great boobs...

  • @aarongtr180 you know that actually says nothing about "modern society" at all

  • @formaldehydekat Actually, it does. It says that modern society is focused on image and popularity rather than substance.

  • @aarongtr180 Don't get dissappointed there will always be fans of good music ; )

  • The beginning of this song is perfect. Makes me want to be hiking in the forest or mountains miles from civilization.

  • damn i love this!

  • I LOVE THE DRUMS

  • The opening could be a Pop Punk Song. Hahaha

Seriously though. These guys fucking rock.

  • @Copidat lol yeah the first time I heard this I thought they were about to play some fucked up version of jingle bells XD

  • @Copidat True lol, but right as the second note hits you know it's better then that ;)

  • M83- We Own the Sky

and Moon Child are related videos. YUSSS

  • The texture of time is a whisper

    that echoes across the flood

It's hymn resonates from tree to tree,

through every sullen bough it sings

  • You should also try out the Danish band Saturnus...specially the songs: For my demons and Christ goodbye.

  • @TheH8breed

Absolutely love Saturnus. Vastly underrated death/doom band. Hails to you for mentioning them \m/
